Chanting "USA" is now racist

:shake:

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highsc...123930890.html

Nevermind the other team was chanting "Alamo Whites".

Saulbadguy 03-08-2012 10:30 AM

I've heard it chanted at games when the player is from Puerto Rico.

Garcia Bronco 03-08-2012 10:31 AM

Race can be defined as poltical borders...so yes...it is racist. And who gives a shit. Don't be affraid to be called a racist because ever person is one.

Nothing wrong with saying "USA" when you live in the USA...Anyone that has a problem with it can get the **** out of our country.

Jenson71 03-08-2012 10:36 AM

Kids being stupid kids. I'm glad their coach stood up to his fans/kids. They was a positive message he sent them. I think it's a little strict to ban the students from the championship game, though.

Nickel D 03-08-2012 10:36 AM

If chanting "USA!" is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

frankotank 03-08-2012 10:41 AM

only white people can be racist. erra-body know dat!

Saulbadguy 03-08-2012 10:42 AM

I was walking downtown yesterday when I saw a pedestrian get hit by a car. I immediately ran to the scene of the accident, and instead of rendering aid, I chanted "ECW, ECW, ECW!"

Bambi 03-08-2012 10:42 AM

Of course not, but in this case its all about intent.

These kids were just being stupid, but it was definately offensive. IN no way did the kids who chanted this think they were being patriotic.

Yet not a single team in the top 5. Let's see where things shake out in April.

MMXcalibur 03-08-2012 10:49 AM

This is the same stupid ****ing city that has the Mexican national soccer team on billboards for Miller Lite right outside Lackland Air Force base.

The only good thing that came out of San Antonio was meeting my wife. Otherwise, I hate that goddamn city.

Of course it's racist, in that context. Chanting 'USA!' because your team's opponents are Hispanic (American citizens, but nonwhite)? The chant's obvious implication was "We belong here, you don't." Which is terrible.

Surely high school students at a sporting event wouldn't have baser reasons than displaying a jolly and patriotic disposition towards this great country.

I'm so sure you've not heard ANYONE say ANYTHING about the Big Ten being the best bball conference this year. :spock:

Maybe it was a gracious attempt to bring unity? They'd just handed a bitter defeat to the other school, but they were saying despite our differences, we're all USA!!!

FWIW, I think the coach of the white USA team did a good job by standing up and telling his kids to stop though, since it could be taken the wrong way by the hispanic USA team.

Hold on. Why would a simple request offering reasonable employment to a high school student, who probably needs the money, be derogatory? A lot of high school students are looking for lawn mowing jobs /patteeu

DaFace 03-08-2012 11:46 AM

At first, I thought this was stupid. The chant is usually a way of showing patriotism, and it's hard to come up with a scenario where it wouldn't be appropriate at a sporting event.

However, the purpose of the chant seemed to be implying that the opposing team's players were not American. That's clearly pretty shitty.

KC native 03-08-2012 11:56 AM

heh not surprised that dildo and patty have already made it in and tried to claim not racist.

Valiant 03-08-2012 12:01 PM

Yeah, what they did was racist. Funny? Possibly. Racist? 100%

You save that chant for international events. HS bball game is not one.

No, I mean that there is a problem with the term "race". It means "group". That's it. Nothing else. There is no scientific basis for the term in this context. It's pseudoscience that was created to excuse bigotry.

completely different cultural dynamic in texas than colorado. San Antonio is predominanty Hispanic. When a predominantly white school is chanting that towards a predominanty Hispanic school, it's a sarcastic way to call them illegals without using racial slurs.
