The case for the Chiefs signing Manning

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1...igning-manning

Go to the link to read it though. I don't know if we can post full stories anymore.

And for the whiners about all the Manning threads... I don't give a crap.

Judge touched on something I posted about yesterday.

It's not good enough just to chase.

It's going to be a huge letdown if we don't sign Manning and go back to Cassel.

The expectation, fair or not, has been created that the Chiefs can and will get Manning.

Pioli's chance at a second contract is riding on this. No doubt in my mind.

KC_Connection 03-09-2012 03:17 AM

Matt Cassel is the current QB of the Kansas City Chiefs. That's a good enough case for signing Manning right there.

Chiefs fans are pretty used to being let down regularly by this organization. What is one more time?

kcxiv 03-09-2012 03:19 AM

Pioli has to go all in, If he doesnt win now and win a play off, dude is history. He's window is closing fast.

Do you see them going back to Cassel? Assuming all these efforts rumored tonight are true, do you think they would just go back to him? I would figure they would go after Orton at the very least, if they didn't go after RG3.

Agreed. I don't see how they can go back to Cassel if this falls through at all.

KC_Connection 03-09-2012 03:24 AM

Kyle Orton is the definition of a letdown at QB. Yeah...that's no solution either.

I don't disagree with that. As for Cassel, I just don't see them going back to him. That is assuming all these rumors about how all in they are.

FAX 03-09-2012 03:43 AM

I don't see any problem with Pioli sticking with Cassel. I mean, I see the problem ... but what I don't see is Pioli deciding not to stick with Cassel simply because he was unable to win over Manning or find another option elsewhere.

Frankly, I could easily envision Pioli acquiring Henne, calling it a quarterback competition, and trotting Cassel's dumb ass right back out there this season with Henne as a backup.

I hate it, but I can definitely imagine that happening.

you know when the little plastic things at the end of your shoe laces comes off, and your lace is accidently pulled through the hole? You know how hard it is to get the lace back through the hole?

that's what i'll be like if we don't land Manning and have to go back to Cassel.

Outstanding article! Thanks for posting. :thumb:

This is, quite frankly, the best description of this whole ordeal.

You just described 'pushing rope'.

Which is also an idiom for something that made me laugh.

That is a good article. Someone should stick it under the wipers of Clark's/Pioli's limos.

Naughty talk. NAUGHTY.

chasedude 03-09-2012 09:11 AM

Pioli is not gonna get Manning, plan and simple. We are stuck with Casshole FOREVER!

I'm anticipating quite he meltdown around here when Manning goes elsewhere.

My oppinion has swayed in favor of getting Peyton Manning & that goes against evry thing I believe we should do. I believe first in drafting a top teir QB & get him playing time right away to build a team & hopeful long term success at winning & ultimatly winning championships. However in this case I am willing to let the inner "true fan" that is deep inside all of us out. I have burried it & am having a battle within my fever over it. Now I won't be as disapointed as most around here as I believe that Stanzi can make a push and upseat the Casshole as starter & in that hope he turns out to be pretty darn good even if he struggles a bit from early in the season. In this case we can find out what Stanzi is made of and still have opportunity of next years draft class for a top teir QB that can set us up even better than this years class can. I can be patient as I am a lifer of a Chiefs fan. The sooner we draft and develop our own QB the happier I will be & more hopeful of getting the job done for Super Bowl.

Right now am jumping on the bring Peyton Manning here bandwaggon for true sperit of the game. I think Peyton Manning (if stays healthy) can bring us a chance at Super Bowl just for sake of his demanding of the best out of the team and would bring quality QB play at the same time.

I don't want Peyton manning go to another team especially Dungverville.

If we get Peyton then we really buy time for Stanzi to learn from one of the best QBs in history of the game so that makes since to me.

I'm still struggling with the idea tho of having another retread so this isn't an easy juncture for me to pass. I'm just ready for a big move that this ogranization has failed to deliver at the QB spot.

Trading up to Draft RGIII > Bringing Peyton here > Stanzi > a kick in the nuts > Matt Cassel.

If I click that article, this should be the only thing I see. It would be fair and accurate reporting in my book.

The bottom line: getting Manning is THE BEST business decision the Chiefs can make. Whatever they have to spend to get him will be worth it. Manning puts a lot of otherwise disinterested butts in seats. We don't know if its a good football decision, but it might be the smartest business decision the franchise could ever make.

We know what Joe did for the excitement of the fans. This would be exactly the same. No reason not to do it.

CaliforniaChief 03-09-2012 10:36 AM

We have three things no other team in the NFL has:

Jim, Bob, and Cooter.

I think the front office agrees. It's Peyton that needs to agree.

Yep, if he signs elsewhere, there will be a bunch of people going off on Pioli when they could offer Manning the moon and he may well want to play elsewhere. It just is that way sometimes. But, they better damn well try hard to give him that moon

Its one of the completely useless bits of knowledge I somehow choose to remember rather than important things that would actually come in handy.

:D

I’m impressed that they’re right up front with an offer.
They, Clark & Scott, must feel it’s a very good offer or they would’ve waited to see where everyone else was landing first.

Ugly Duck 03-09-2012 11:30 AM

How the Raider Nation feels about Peyton in Ketchup & Mustard:

"IF Manning signs with KC, you can forget even having a chance in the AFC West this year. I would go into full rebuild mode."

"Manning is damaged goods"

"If Manning signs with the Chiefs, stays healthy, and is even 80% of what he was then we can say goodbye to the division for at least a couple years."

"If for some reason Manning would go to KC, I say we change our game plan and do a major rebuilding."

"If that happens we would be ****'d for at least 2 seasons"

"Manning makes the Chiefs a top candidate to win the division for a couple years"

"If he can play, they'll be tough to beat, but not impossible."

"Manning would not be the best QB in the AFC West. Hell I would put rivers ahead of him. After 3 neck surgeries you're gonna sit here and tell me this is the same guy? I would welcome an immobile QB to our division with the new defensive scheme we will be running."

"Lets be realistic. Casell is the main weakness to that team... if they replaced him with Manning, were fked. They already might have the best DB squad in the league with Berry, one of the best pass rushers, & explosive RB with above average receivers."

"It is a HUGE "if," but if Peyton can play like he used to, I'm scared to think what he can do with KC. IMO the Chiefs have way more talent on their roster than the Colts did under Manning."

"Manning >>>> Palmer and I wish we could cut Palmer to get him."

"Some of y'all are CRAZY thinkin KC wouldn't easily be the favorites to win the division if Manning went there.. i would hate that."
