Why do we (CPers) know that the Chiefs are making a play for Manning?

Normally the Chiefs are so secretive about everything they do. When they made a play for Henderson, we didn't know it until long after the skins signed him. The only benefit to breaking that rule is propaganda.

I hope everything is on the up and up. But looking at the past, and the way the Chiefs do business, there is a very strong chance the Chiefs are blowing smoke up everyones ass. Im not saying there is no offer. But I want to be the last to make one, not the first. The whole thing stinks of bad business and good politics.

If the Chiefs are serious about Manning then we would have more likely waited. But we would have known nothing of it until after the fact. Of that Im pretty certain.

Now that RGIII is gone. They better not screw this up. Because after leading the league in cap room for the last 2 seasons its time for the owner to produce. Spitting bullshit lines like "we are excited about the 2012 Chiefs", he needs to get in touch with reality. If your excited, then your not paying attention.

We're looking at you Clark. This year many of us wont be showing up and buying tickets. If your not serious then sell the team to someone who is. These fans deserve your best effort. We know we're not getting it.

No QB = no point.

This is the history of the Chiefs.

petegz28 03-09-2012 10:19 PM

I've wondered a little about this myself. Are we just getting lip service and the obligatory "we tried" line or are they actually making a real effort? We will know soon, as in the next few days. If Peyton doesn't make a trip to KC soon I'd say either he told us to **** off from the get go or we never made a serious run at him.

BigMeatballDave 03-09-2012 10:22 PM

Because Clark Hunt said it.

Mr. Laz 03-09-2012 10:23 PM

so ya ... the team is undermining all the QB's on their roster and willing to have it look like Manning rejected them in the national media. All while just pretending to be interested to keep your idiotic ass entertained for a couple of weeks.

we have reached a new level of moron around here.

I feel the same way as you but I tend to lean towards the lip service part. They haven't shown me they have changed in any meaningful way.

I think that report is BS

morphius 03-09-2012 10:42 PM

What I can't believe is how many of you think that signing Manning has anything to do with what the Chiefs do. Manning is going to pick his place and unless he is insulted by the offer he is going to go there.

well come on, man.

Teams to do not announce to all their players and the rest of the league that they aren't satisfied with ALL the QB's on their roster to mollify their fanbase by pretending to go after a free agent like this.

It's more likely they will lie and say they aren't interested and then sneak around secretly to talk to Manning.

Not to mention the risk of public rejection if Manning chooses another team.

They may or may not get Manning but this isn't pretend.

Do you actually believe that?

They offer a contract without even meeting with him?

I disagree because we are talking about one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. It is no brainer and IMO for crappy teams with a lot of money to spend it would be stupid not to say anything.

Okie_Apparition 03-09-2012 10:47 PM

Peyton is going to get wined & dined in the finest restaurants across america in the next few days
Haley would have him running wind sprints for weeks

I said it in September, this team will get Manning. It is exactly who the Chiefs are. The good news, no draft picks given up to get the broke dick HOF QB.

Bump 03-09-2012 11:49 PM

"He's one of the greatest players in the history of the league," Chiefs owner Clark Hunt told NBC Sports Network. "He's also an incredible person. We feel really good about the team we have in Kansas City going into the 2012 season, but we'll look for any opportunity to improve and, of course, that includes Peyton Manning."

that's really what Clark said? That sounds like bullshit to me, he probably doesn't even know who Peyton Manning is.

I bet Jerry Jones reminded him who he was
right before he told him to pick up his ticket sales
he was tired of carring his team's small market ass
