Worst accident video ever - SUV vs Semi

Holy ****!

Dave Lane 03-17-2012 08:02 AM

Just goes to show how quick something can happen on the highway when you're driving. Jesus Christ stay the hell away from from hitting the center of snow on the road.

carlos3652 03-17-2012 08:03 AM

wow.

Yea. Watching that vid made my heart drop into the pit of my stomach....knowing the likely outcome.

1ChiefsDan 03-17-2012 08:06 AM

Did the airbags work?

DenverChief 03-17-2012 08:06 AM

Plus imagine how the truck driver feels...

Canofbier 03-17-2012 08:07 AM

Goes to show how frail we all really are - the smallest mistake in day-to-day activities has fatal potential.

BigCatDaddy 03-17-2012 08:17 AM

I don't think I've ever seen a car blow up like that.

TheGuardian 03-17-2012 08:21 AM

Yeah me either. And that's an Armada I think. A giant SUV, we had one. With 16 air bags. But when a semi hits you the laws of physics aren't generally in your favor.

Terrible. :(

McWickedson 03-17-2012 08:27 AM

ugh. RIP.

Bwana 03-17-2012 08:29 AM

That would be a hard one to cover, as a Highway Patrol Officer. You know that got nasty.

Tribal Warfare 03-17-2012 08:31 AM

Sad, but that the guy/girl was going too fast on an icy road.

58-4ever 03-17-2012 08:32 AM

Man, that is tough to watch. Happy St. Patrick's day. I'm going to start drinking now.

That's the thing, people don't understand how close they really are to losing control of their vehicle. Far too many people underestimate the elements and think they're great drivers or some shit.

I know snow doesn't equal rain, but i constantly see people hauling ass through heavy downpours.

It seems like you have to crash before you realize how close you actually are to having those tires break loose.

keg in kc 03-17-2012 08:39 AM

I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle disintegrate like that. There one second, gone the next.

I think that shows that all involved were probably going too fast for conditions. The SUV was going too fast and lost control. That semi had to be going fast to just destroy the SUV like that.

Just look during the next snow/ice storm. A majority of the vehicles in ditches are 4WD because so many people buy them and think they are invincible. You have to understand how your vehicle responds and adjust to weather conditions.

~80,000 lbs of steel @ 75 mph = bad day for anything in its path.

doomy3 03-17-2012 08:52 AM

Holy shit. It's like that SUV was made of Popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue.

Well except a freight train. Trains do to a semi, what a semi does to a car.

ChiefFripp 03-17-2012 08:58 AM

SUV= probably a good chance children were in the vehicle too. Scary stuff.

True. Not sure I would want to be anywhere near much less on a train that got hit by a semi doing 75 lol.

I have, well I didn't quite see it happen but in Deerfield KS a pick up truck backed into a fuel truck & KAPLOWIE KER BOOM Ch KA! I was at home at the time & there was a large amount of smoke from the gas stop. I was there just about 5 min pryer to the explosion. There was nothing left of the pickem up truck. The cab of the simi was the only thing that survived & that truck driver lived. (rip driver of pickup) What an explosion. If it was on vid it would of made this video look like weak sauce, but this video brings back that memory. This one is still bad tho.

pr_capone 03-17-2012 09:17 AM

WOW.

Complete and total obliteration.

Molitoth 03-17-2012 09:22 AM

That was almost as bad as last nights MU game.

Two things here. First, are you a one-upper in real life, or just on the Internet? Second, who thinks, talks, or types like this? "KAPLOWIE KER BOOM Ch KA!" "pickem up truck" Really!?

Be honest, did you just make this story up?

Actually we have a more technical acronym than DOA. It's DRT, dead right there.

Its was a Nissan Navara the same as the Frontier over here. It looks like the driver of the semi survived the accident.

yup on the way to see his wife and kids.

Lumpy 03-17-2012 10:11 AM

This video makes me want to just stay home and never drive again. That is really sad. :(

A few years back, a client of mine was driving in Omaha w/ her kids. Some guy ran a red light and hit them pretty hard. The sad part was her daughter had unbuckled her belt to get something just seconds before the impact. Her little girl was found on the road next to the bumper. She was still alive, but she was bleeding internally and they couldn't save her. :(

The guy wasn't a legal citizen and he didn't have a license. So he wasn't even suppose to be driving!! I'm not trying to send this to DC, but if illegals want to live here, they need to do shit by the books, get their citizenship, and learn the rules of the road! /vent

It happened in real life. No not a one upper. This is the interweb & I have fun with it and use it for my entertainment & or get things out of my system to help myself cope with the real world. I got my own sense of humor here & post mostly by my feelings of interest. That's just how I am.

No. But i am that guy that will drive 50-55 no matter who is speeding by.

Baby Lee 03-17-2012 10:26 AM

That brings some visceral flashbacks to returning home this last Christmas.
Decided to come back during the night, which was good from a traffic standpoint, but from Warrenton into St. Louis city proper, I was in the middle of a fairly strong storm that the trucks weren't out there salting or plowing for yet. Spent the entire drive white knuckling, constantly searching for the 'groove' where it was safe to roll. Plenty of spots with no good answers and just compensating like heck to keep from fishtailing. At one point I was all alone on a 6-lane highway doing 20 mph to stave off wheel spin.
Glad it was all divided highway with little traffic.

Ace Gunner 03-17-2012 10:28 AM

It shows in the video in the OP, but not in the GIF, that he skimmed over into the center slush. That'll drag the driver's side like if you stepped on the brakes and only the driver's side wheels reacted.

mikeyis4dcats. 03-17-2012 10:49 AM

bet the driver of that car caught in the middle didn't drive for a few days.

All the driver had to do, was just let off the gas. Don't hit the brakes. One thing people don't understand is gas or brake with no traction = bad news. Just let off.

Frazod 03-17-2012 11:28 AM

Seems like another case of an SUV driver thinking he's immortal because he's in an SUV.

I never knew just how many just flat out awful drivers are out there, until I started driving a semi. People with four wheel drive vehicles are just straight up hazards when it comes to driving in bad weather. Ice is ice, dumbass. It really doesn't matter how many of your wheels are "driving", and it really isn't sunny and 70 outside.

Apparently the new fun game around KC is for kids to see how close they can get to trucks on the highway. Expect new stories like this, if that trend keeps up.

Truth. I remember reading some article talking about the psychology of your average person behind the wheel, and how they generally feel much more empowered by all the weight and power around them in a car. Take an SUV and multiply that by ten.

I had someone tell me once how they got behind a semi and threw it in neutral and coasted behind it for hundreds of miles. I thought i had a stupid sign pasted on my forehead.
