Weird Weather

March 18. Still technically winter. And it's 80 degrees in Chicago.

While I'm not complaining about grilling in shorts on my deck in the middle of March, I can't help but wonder - if it's 80 degrees now, what the hell is it going to be like in August? We're breaking records from 1995 up here. 1995 was the worst goddamn summer I can ever remember. Nearly 800 people died from the heat.

I think we may be in for the hot humid summer from hell.

I hate heat & humidity. Then combine that with 30 to 40 MPH wind & life out side sucks !

Toadkiller 03-18-2012 03:43 PM

Snowed a bit here in Portland, strange weather for sure. We were out trout fishing and all of a sudden the temp dropped and we got snow. Didnt stick but sure did suck.

Just not looking forward to 105 degree weather. I'd rather be hip deep in snow.

Grass here North of KC is going to need mowing within a week or two and the robins aren't even back yet

kcxiv 03-18-2012 03:46 PM

lol, well here in cali we got cold, not crazy cold, but massive rain and even a little hail today. But this is our rainy season.

I dont care if its hotter than usual this summer, last summer was too mild anyway imo, i like the heat, the hotter & sunnier it is the more active i feel like being.

HATE to sit around the house on a hot summer day, feel way too guilty about it.

HoneyBadger 03-18-2012 03:57 PM

Windy as shit at my house. Hopefully my girlfriend's bad mood blows away.

Yeah, I prefer to not have my nuts pop like microwave popcorn in the blistering heat.

mlyonsd 03-18-2012 03:57 PM

Yeah I'm a cool weather guy and the way the last few months have gone I'm concerned we're going to have a sucky summer.

JoeyChuckles 03-18-2012 04:01 PM

There are thunderstorms and it is 54 right now in Phoenix.

Last summer sucked dick up here. It was so hot, wet and sticky that there were bugs everywhere (my property adjoins overgrown protected wetlands, which is absolute bug city when conditions are right). I grilled nearly nightly during the summer of 2010 - last year, hardly at all.

You should come to Chicago to escape the cold LMAO

Baby Lee 03-18-2012 04:04 PM

The Atlantic and Pacific pressure fronts have created a midwest corridor and Southern winds have gushed right up it like the NAFTA highway. Northern pressure is due to fight back soon.
The warm weather right now is a pressure front phenomenon, not a harbinger of hotter weather lasting a long time. We're basically getting Texas' and Louisiana's normal March weather.

DTLB58 03-18-2012 04:21 PM

Sunny and 80 the past two days in Northern Iowa!

I worked on my yard both days. Yard thatched, dead grass and winter crap all picked up. Fertilizer down. (Some good rains expected this week).

Several other misc outdoor things done and I got some serious sun :thumb:

60's here just got done grilling.

seclark 03-18-2012 04:24 PM

i've had the bike out 3 times.
run over 2 snakes.
got two mowers tuned up and ready to go and another in the shop.
hearing turkeys in the mornings.
wife's out running 18 miles, training for a marathon next month.
using ice to keep beer cold.
ernie's over working on his garden.
got a ****ing beaver in my pond...ok, that doesn't have anything to do w/spring, but wtf???
winter's over people.

sec

whoman69 03-18-2012 04:37 PM

Warmed up here, but is going to cool down to more seasonal averages in the 60s within the next week. On March 16 we set a record for the earliest 80 degree temperature since they have been measuring.

We've robins in South Dakota - they've been here for two weeks - you must not be looking hard enough.

Cottonwoods are about to bloom and the maples are flowering. Cool season plants are sending up vegetative growth. I've my eyes open for cold weather settling back in.

sd4chiefs 03-18-2012 05:31 PM

It's 55 and the wind is blowing around 30 mph here in San Diego. I am freezing my ass off because the windows in my house suck and I am not going to turn on the heat.

They always appear here in large groups when they come back. Haven't seen a 1 yet

I hear what you're saying, i guess for me it really all depends on what i'm doing.

At work, i HATE the sweltering heat as much as anyone, walking around all day on a huge piece of black, sun sucking asphalt shimmering like a mirage, in khakis & a polo or button down.

But when i'm off i LOVE it... at some pond, river or lake fishing, fishing some shady spots & cover, wearing shorts & not much else, taking along plenty of beverages, ice & water, going for a dip where possible or even going to the local pool for a bit... yep, hot & sunny is usually a great off day for me.

Hail, kemosabe. With the weather warming up and cooling season drawing down upon us, I was wondering when the ideal time to check/refill AC coolant?

TIA

It needs to be at least 80 degrees to get an accurate charge. It's not a bad time to hose out the condenser though.

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful St. Patty's day.

I was driving down SW Trafficway in the morning, and there was a nice breeze, magnolia trees in bloom, and people all dressed up in green getting ready to get their party on.

It was a fantastic day. Today was nice as well; but I was mostly holed up being a lazy shit so I didn't get to enjoy it.

Pitt Gorilla 03-18-2012 10:40 PM

It's been in the 80s the last couple of days in northern freaking Iowa. Something isn't right.

Both my ATV's are sitting at the dealership here in town, getting serviced, I dropped them off Friday. I also have the bug to get out there myself and wanted to beat the rush of ATV's getting serviced, once it gets really nice. Not to worry, we will put some miles on those things, ASAP! :D
