Stanton says "Turned Down Offer To Play w Chiefs for Jets?"

News to me but heres quote from espn.com

Stanton is said to be unhappy because he was promised the No. 2 job and turned down more lucrative opportunities with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs to play for the Jets. He received a $500,000 signing bonus, but he could have a hard time finding a new team because the backup jobs are filling up.

Bewbies 03-23-2012 09:27 AM

Well, Pioli has gone after Manning and Stanton this off-season. Who knows if he made an offer to Orton or not as well.

Maybe he is starting to sour on Cassel?

Codered 03-23-2012 09:29 AM

You'd think being Cassel's backup would be an attractive spot. The chances of seeing some playing time seems likely.

Micjones 03-23-2012 09:29 AM

Wait, you mean Cassel's not bulletproof?
Pioli's really trying to improve the team? Even at the all-important QB position?

No way!

L.A. Chieffan 03-23-2012 09:30 AM

drew stanton AND brady quinn? wez gonna party like its 2007 batches!

Epic Fail 007 03-23-2012 09:31 AM

Well he has a little bit of a big head. For someone who has done nothing in the nfl.

kczoo 03-23-2012 09:33 AM

Brady Quinn...What the hell does this mean now when we both left to get away from Tebow with two different teams and we both end up here in KC? Kevin Bacon has got nothing on this Tebow Pyramid scheme beotches

shitgoose 03-23-2012 09:34 AM

What does the Jets recent signing of a fullback have to do with Stanton losing the #2 job?

qabbaan 03-23-2012 10:02 AM

Interesting. He turned down more money to go to the Jets.

So Stanton believed that Sanchez was more likely to be benched than Cassel?

All players want to play for Rex. As soon as they sign they get a complimentary picture of his wifes feet.

Fritz88 03-23-2012 10:29 AM

He knew there isn't really a competition here.

He was told he would be the #2 QB with no competition for the spot.

I guess KC told him he'd be competing with Stanzi and anyone else they bring in.

Okie_Apparition 03-23-2012 11:08 AM

The Stanton Island dream is fading fast

which is the right answer. Stanton must not be very confident and realizes his limitations. I hope he is happy being a back up somewhere

Sanchez has a long term contract. Cassel can be cut tomorrow. So cassel in theory is easier to replace. Which makes this again more baffling. Something is really really fishy here. Third qb who turned down a better situation.

Promised second string vs. competition for second string.

I'm pretty sure that Drew Stanton signed with the Jets before he got his extension. So at that time.....Sanchez was more replaceable than Cassel.

Nevermind.....I was wrong.

Okie_Apparition 03-23-2012 11:32 AM

They chased(rumor?) Peyton then traded for Tebow
The starting QB job there sounds wide open, WTF is his problem

Really? Because Drew Stanton is going to beat out Jesus.

Okie_Apparition 03-23-2012 11:38 AM

If he doesn't think he can beat out Tebow
after the Pats who they play twice, cleaned his clock
he just wants a nice clipboard job

Pasta Little Brioni 03-23-2012 12:15 PM

Sucks for him

qabbaan 03-23-2012 01:23 PM

Jets announce that they have traded QB Drew Stanton to the Colts. #nfl

Chiefnj2 03-23-2012 02:48 PM

It would be funny if Andrew Luck declared he won't sign with Indy because he won't compete with Stanton.

Yeah, he was unhappy battling with Sanchez and Tebow... he should be thrilled battling with Luck.

I don't think the guy wants an opportunity to start. He wants the joy of the 2nd string qb life.

If he really wanted to improve the team, he would have signed someone to replace the backup QB we have, not just get another backup for him.

Why is it everyone is convinced they know how Pioli views Quinn? Or RAC for that matter.

okcchief 03-23-2012 04:50 PM

If he doesn't feel like he can compete with Tebow then I don't want him.

Rain Man 03-23-2012 04:55 PM

Is third string quarterback the best job on the planet? In all seriousness, I can't think of a better job when you consider pay, the work involved, and the perquisites.

Because they've directly said that Cassel is the starter. And as of now, that means he walks into the preseason taking starter snaps. It's his job to lose and Quinn is going to have to move mountains to prove otherwise in a limited number of snaps.
