4.39 in the 40-yard dash. Wow

Dante84 04-28-2012 10:41 AM

We talked to him at the Shrine Bowl on 1/18

Dante84 04-28-2012 10:42 AM

If he stays healthy, this could be a damn fun pick.

Rarely do I root for a white skill player thats not a qb.

Simplicity 04-28-2012 10:43 AM

Dante Hall 2.0... Yeah Ik what I just said... Dante Hall.

YES !

We finally get our true Wes Welker slot and one more return guy that can break tackles !!

You could arm tackle Dante and Dante never did have the toughness to play the slot. Too fragile. Don't get me wrong I liked Dante but he was too one dimensional.

This kid will be special in many ways. Count on it !!

Bootlegged 04-28-2012 10:48 AM

Love the pic. Some of the haters must be so blinded by Pioli hate that they will bash every pick. A 4th rounder with legitimate chance to be starting PR/KR and slot/4th WR. He'll be in the endzone a few times this fall. Excellent pick.

Simplicity 04-28-2012 10:49 AM

Best pick this draft.

mcaj22 04-28-2012 10:49 AM

remember when we spent a 36 overall pick to select Dexter McCluster

then went onto draft and sign guys that bury him on the depth chart even more and do the exact same skillset he does.

I do.

saphojunkie 04-28-2012 10:50 AM

Pioli doesn't say much but he communicates a ton. This pick says "sorry...DMC was a mistake."

COchief 04-28-2012 10:53 AM

This was a really annoying highlight video, way to replay pretty average plays over and over. This kid looks exactly like the two returners that we already spent 2 second round picks on a couple years ago. A backup safety is a much bigger need at the moment, if I have to watch Slappy again this year I am going to be pissed.

Simply Red 04-28-2012 10:55 AM

too bad most kickers are booting into the endzone, these days and the KR/PR positions are less important than ever.

Plenty of backup S's in Free Agency. Not like the roster is set as of 8pm tonight.

morphius 04-28-2012 10:59 AM

Good, now we have another slot receiver type that can be injured easily, sweet.

Fansy the Famous Bard 04-28-2012 11:00 AM

Kid has some serious shakes.

Setsuna 04-28-2012 11:00 AM

He looks really quick and can cut on a dime. That's valuable but makes you susceptible to injury.

I get that, but the backup S position is something we've ignored for years and I'd like to see it addressed. Plus we've already burned two high picks on midgets that are completely capable of handling the return duties. I know everyone is down on DMC, but he kicked ass the last few games after Haley left and the O-coordinator started using him correctly (screens).

the Talking Can 04-28-2012 11:05 AM

second fastest WR at combine

excellent kick returner who can take over for failed mccluster abortion

we needed speed, we got it

No, he didn't.

It's a ****ing urban myth.

It's not like he was out there making people miss.

His "best game" was him running through gaping holes against the Broncos...and catching a 20-yard pass where literally NO ONE was within 10 yards of him.

He made ONE play on a screen pass.

DMC is the 3rd down back. That's it. At least he was willing to correct the issue.

I know, I know..... Matt Cassel

Dante84 04-28-2012 11:07 AM

Guys, he's not just good for returning on special teams.

This guy is a beast on the coverage units.

Bootlegged 04-28-2012 11:08 AM

Kid is a serious gunner on ST's as well. Lots of possible production for a 4th rounder. Bye Terrance Copper.

Charles is the primary back on third downs.

Dante84 04-28-2012 11:08 AM

He is the great white hope, and will be a fan favorite early in his career.

nychief 04-28-2012 11:09 AM

isn't he the guy Parcells mentioned as a draft steal at the end of his "draft confidential?"

mcaj22 04-28-2012 11:10 AM

i just think when you have a 36 overall pick, you go for an every down player, especially when you have needs like we did at the time.

we could have had TJ Ward, Nate Allen, Rob Gronkowski, Lamarr Houston, Daryl Washington, etc. Instead we took at guy that will get beat out by this new 4th round pick and might not even make it out of training camp alive lol

Don't be obtuse.

Charles will be on the field on third downs most of the time.

You want your best players on the field on third down. Not guys who can't make people miss.

TRR 04-28-2012 11:15 AM

Much better WR's on the board at this point than Wylie. He lacks production and has a history of injury. Projected 6-7th round.

I like this guy.

Natural speed and return ability. Arenas had nice return ability, but not the natural speed that this guy has.

By some. Projected 4th-5th by others.

He's a developmental WR.

He helps us instantly on special teams, both in the return game and covering kicks.

Here are his stats taking an average of the last three games of last season and projecting them for 16 games. You telling me this is a complete failure for a third down back for a season? Over a thousand yards of production? I'm not saying he's the second coming, but he's nowhere near as bad as people around CP, especially you, make him out to be when used properly:

Also, lrn2Excel

The highest rated WR on the board at the time according to two "experts". Anything to get rid of Jeremy Horne. If I never see him suit up again it will be a great life.

Rasputin 04-28-2012 11:28 AM

Now if we can not use ACME quarterback Wylie maybe able to catch the roadrunner.

Its pretty much a guarantee he won't help at WR. Tough to get excited about a 4th round kick/punt returner that couldn't stay healthy doing it at the collegiate level but they are asking him to do it on the NFL level?

I'm not being "obtuse". DMC's gonna get about 25% of Charles' carries.
He didn't carry the ball more than 225 times at full health, and he's not gonna do it with a newly repaired ACL.

mcaj22 04-28-2012 11:30 AM

DMC is not gonna get 25 percent of anything with Charles and Hillis both healthy

there is not enough footballs in the entire state of Missouri for all 3 to touch it. And this place will riot if that shitty McCluster is coming in on 1st and 2nd downs getting awful delay draw handoffs while Charles or Hills stand healthy on the sideline. No excuse of that garbage when these guys wont be hurt

There is no guarantee that Bowe is going to sign his franchise or renegotiate a new contract here either. We all want to believe he is going to, but reality says he may not.

Baldwin and Breaston could be our two starters on the outside, and Wylie could become our slot receiver.

Not a name that was on my radar, but after reading up on him, a guy with some speed is not a bad thing when the rest of the guys on the roster are named Copper, Horne, Markshausen and Newsome. He sounds like he'll have immediate impact on special teams, and provide something a bit different from Bowe, Baldwin or Breaston in the rare multiple receiver set. The injuries are a concern but it sounds like he's surprisingly polished across the board as a receiver (scary fast, decent hands, good route runner).

Sounds to me like a guy who would have gone two rounds earlier without the injury question.

BoneKrusher 04-28-2012 11:44 AM

No proof yet however Daboll doesn't use 4 WR sets a lot and there is obviously no way Wylie will beat out Breaston in the slot. You also know that Copper will be active nearly every week as well...

Baldwin and Breaston on the outside. Wylie in the slot. Bowe gets moved for a high draft pick in next years draft... which is in turn flipped for our new starting QB. Stranger things have happened in the NFL.

He's had some hamstring problems, though it sounds like he was healthy last season. It might be something that NFL trainers can take care of.

tk13 04-28-2012 11:53 AM

Either way, the reality is that Bowe/Breaston/Baldwin/Wylie/Charles/Hillis/McCluster will not all be healthy for all 16 games this season.

So by my count this is the 3rd Wes Welker Pioli has drafted since coming here. Now all we need is a few Tom Bradys.
