That is literally the only negative comment in that review, which ends by saying he has second round talent.

qabbaan 04-28-2012 12:36 PM

FTR, Menzie played Javier Arenas' position after Arenas departed for the NFL.

BoneKrusher 04-28-2012 12:36 PM

this has been one helluva draft.

I'm a huge Bama fan so I know this team. Menzies is very solid not as flashy as Kirkpatrick but filled in a lot when Kirkpatrick was hurt a steal in the fifth we have a good cb to develop and compete with brown next year.

That hitch is everything, though.

That hitch creates a split second that allows for separation.

I was never a fan of Menzie.

What do you know about this "hitch" other than what you read from babb's tweet?

Could it be that this is why they feel he projects to safety in the NFL and not corner?

I duno man....its not that far of a stretch to say a 5th round pick could end up doing nothing in the NFL. I mean I dont know anything about Menzies from college so I will have to trust what the CP experts who do ewatch college ball are saying, but I mean just overall statistics....do not bode well.

Nobody expects a fifth round safety to do much in the league except contribute on special teams and provide depth, at least in the immediate future.

And the "Weaknesses" part sounds promising too:

Quote:

Menzie is a solid all-around prospect who has fluid hips and athletic ability, which he relies on too heavily at times. He takes chances in man coverage that could hurt him at the next level.
Sounds like something coaching, along with a dose of big league humble pie, should be able to cure.

Kendrick Lewis says hi.

whoman69 04-28-2012 01:02 PM

I would have to say if they're converting him to safety he is probably the best solution as there is not much left for players who played safety in college. I worry about the size for safety. He's under 200 at 5'10.

If only NFL teams had some type of program and training staff for adding weight and strength................no way a kid could put on a few pounds now........

Mayock likes him.....

aturnis 04-28-2012 01:18 PM

Mayock just called Menzie one of his favorite players in this draft.

Mi_chief_fan 04-28-2012 01:19 PM

Mayock called him one of his favorite players in this year's draft.

chiefscafan 04-28-2012 01:19 PM

Mayock just said he's a football player he will compete at cb or safety it doesn't matter great special teams. He will compete for a starting position that's the type of kid he is.

aturnis 04-28-2012 01:22 PM

Mayock actually said "he will compete for a starting job, trust me. That's the type of competitiveness this kid has".

Will play all special teams. Mayock doesn't care if you leave him at CB or kick him inside to Saftey where he likes him.

Frosty 04-28-2012 01:22 PM

Hmmm...

I get the impression that Mayock may like this pick. :hmmm:

JohnnyHammersticks 04-28-2012 01:22 PM

Mayock: "It doesn't matter if you play him at Safety, or at Corner--I like him at Safety--a football player is a football player. He will complete for a starting spot from day one, that's just the kind of guy he is."

Wow. Pretty high praise by Mayock.

This draft hasn't exactly been sexy, but we have seriously improved our depth, which was our one glaring need. You can't have a probowler get replaced by literally the worst player on your team (see Berry/Piscateli).

Someone else pointed this out...it's the right 53, not the right 22.

Yeah, but how much can you add to a 5'10" frame? Too much over 200lbs and the guy will be built like a RB.

He's definitely small for a safety.

He's a coverage guy.

I think the league is moving away from 220 lb safeties.

Apparently, this was EXACTLY the approach they were taking. Best NT available. Depth and size for the O line. Depth at WR and in the D backfield. Special team difference makers (Wylie & Menzies). More of the same in the 6th and 7th. Maybe an ILB or Center :thumb:

Another solid depth signing, no reaching.

He can play special teams right away & of course more importantly, send sabby back to snookieland.
