Something bizarre

So according to NFL network the Chiefs get the highest grade in the division and do a nice job...over on ESPN they are called one of the draft losers by Jaws and his little group, WTF?

The Dawg 04-28-2012 06:46 PM

Meh. Talking heads.

Jaws doesn't know what he's talking about. NflN probably doesn't either, that's why I stopped cable and started depending on ChiefsPlanet experts.

I guess if they have their mind made up that Poe's a bust then they'd think our draft sucked.

TimeForWasp 04-28-2012 06:50 PM

Jaws is a Quarterback guy. Like alot of people on this board bitching about getting a quarterback where there were few.

I still can't believe we made no effort to replace Cassel. I thought his contract was structured in a way that made it easy to cut ties with him after 3 years. Oh well, on the bright side, we only have three more years of Cassel.

I'm hopeful yet that Stanzi takes over before midseason. Also think Brady Quinn can push the envelope to get rid of cASSel. Let the boos at Arrowhead poor down or empty seats to get the message across that we need to cut Cassel.

keg in kc 04-28-2012 08:13 PM

I think Cassel's only still here because he was injured. A full season the way he was playing and he's gone right now. But he has a literal smörgåsbord of line and skill position talent assembled for him, so assuming he fails again there won't be any other shoulders to put it on, although the "nth OC in x years" will probably pop up. I think this is going to be his swan song, although I don't think we're going to see a QB drafted next year. I think we'll see another vet brought in.

KcMizzou 04-28-2012 08:14 PM

The Stanzi fascination baffles me. I've never really thought of him as a legitimate option as a starter. (yes, even over Cassel)

It's the problem with vets at basically any position now. Getting Winston for what we did was a real coup, assuming his release and subsequent surprisingly low contract aren't indicative of something bad we aren't aware of. But free agency (and trading) is largely supplemental now. You're not likely to build a successful team that way. You're basically stuck getting question-marks and elderly talent.

Best (and probably only) shot we have for a vet QB is a situation like Brees and Rivers in SD. But I have no idea where or who that might be.

Young and unknown, versus old and known to suck. Then there is the, if he sucks at least he is cheap to replace and it would be easy to move on.

I like him that I think he can be damn good after seeing what he could do in college. He has a lot of qualities to be a prolific passer & QB play. He may throw extra INTs but his driving the ball down the field and producing TDs should make up for that, much like a younger Trent Green.

There's a really big part of me that believes Stanzi fell for good reason. Scouts aren't stupid, especially when it comes to QB.

But there's another small part of me that never understood why he fell that low. Played a much more complex offense than a common spread guy, good enough size, good enough arm, not the most accurate guy but more accurate than Brady Quinn, and good character/leadership. I mean, Cousins scared the living shit out of me and he went a whole round higher than Stanzi. So yeah, I know it's irrational, but I still like Stanzi's chances even though I know I shouldn't.

Rasputin 04-28-2012 11:09 PM

Well I'm not a fan of 3 & outs that make us punt all the time. I'd much rather have a QB able to take posessions down the field to give us drives that lead to a bunch of scoring opportunities even if he throws some INTs in a game. Out scoring the opponant is the name of the game. Not having scoring drives is the kill factor to victory.

Arron Rodgers drop down to i think the 24th pick and Alex Smith was picked first over all explain that. That's what we can't do is predict the draft 100% and figure it out. Each year there are boom or bust players get picked not where they should be it's just based on hope and luck to pan out.

Pauly (RIP), Pele, and Zina are driving around in a '69 Chevy. It's a warm day. A cop pulls them over and asks that they get out. We don't know what offense they've committed, but it must not be too serious, as the cop quickly becomes more interested in the make of their car.

This is quite strange.

They continue on their drive. They aren't going anywhere specific, but they need to re-fuel. At the gas station, they see posters advertising the circus.

On admittedly limited viewing, Stanzi is a far more natural passer, if nothing else... thats worth my vote.

Rasputin 04-29-2012 12:49 AM

I just think that if Stanzi can get fair playing time in preseason he can show that he can take over at some point once Cassel starts to fail and the crowd at Arrowhead call for his head. That's about what it's going to take for him to become our starter and get rid of Cassel. He also has to do better than Quinn as Quinn is Romeos boy from Cleveland. Stanzi did not get fair playing time last years preseason.

JD10367 04-29-2012 06:39 AM

Analyzing the draft is like meeting a girl in a bar and deciding right there whether she'd make a good long-term wife. Tom Brady was panned. Ryan Leaf and Rick Mirer were #2 overall picks (after Peyton Manning and Drew Bledsoe, respectively). JaFatass, mentioned above. There are so many wrong decisions made about quarterbacks it's not funny.

People clamor for Stanzi for one simple reason: he hasn't been given a chance. He could be nothing but Jim Sorgi. Or he could be Tom Brady. But they'll never know if they don't try him. Matt Cassel? Brady Quinn? They know what they have in those two: not much. On a good day, they can lead a team to a win; on a bad day, they can singlehandedly lose a game. That applies to most quarterbacks but, unlike the very good quarterbacks, Cassel and Quinn (like many other mediocre QBs) can't overcome many obstacles (like turnovers) or make average players look great, or actually lead a team (i.e. be a leader).

Yes, it's possible to win a Super Bowl with mediocrity (e.g. Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson). But there's no coincidence that this is the list of the past 20+ years of SB QBs. Note the red years, in which IMO both QBs weren't very good (hence the reason a Dilfer-type won). Note the green names, which seem to repeat. Note the blue names, who are quality one-time winners on this list.

23 years. 46 participants.

Elway: 3
Kelly: 4
Aikman: 3
Favre: 2
Warner: 3
Brady: 5
Roethlisberger: 3
P. Manning: 2
E. Manning: 2

That list of 9, probably all headed for Canton, comprises 27 of 46 (over half).

In 10 years (89-98), Elway, Kelly, Favre, and Aikman took 12 of 20 spots (with 1 to Montana and 1 to Young as well).

In 13 more recent years (99-11), Warner, Brady, Roethlisberger, P. Manning, and E. Manning took 15 of 26 spots (with 1 to Brees and 1 to Rodgers as well).

And you can even make a case that some of the black-font losers (Bledsoe, McNair, McNabb) are excellent QBs and, with a break here or there, would be in Canton as well.

You can win without a great quarterback. But the odds aren't good. Hence, people want to know if Stanzi is going to be the 10th guy on that list, or a perennial benchwarmer. And you can't find out if you don't play him.

It's just like here. Sitters on both sides.
I don't value their opinions any more than posters here.
Less actually.

I do too. I hope it happens in preseason and becomes a battle between Quinn and Stanzi.

I don't need another year of giving Cassel a chance to show just enough to make the coaches cling to a 9 win season by leaving him in.

Pretty simple... the NFL Network is in bed with Clark Hunt's efforts to do everything possible to create the illusion the Chiefs are on an upward track towards a good season this year. The NFL Network is in bed with Clark's strategy in the name of selling tickets.

ESPN doesn't give a shit about this and is telling it like it is.

You are too old and senile to probably comprehend this, but don't you find it odd that the NFL Network is the only entity giving the Chiefs positive reviews for this year's draft? ESPN, CBS Sportsline the usually homer KC Star, etc. are all giving the Chiefs mediocre reviews for their draft.

You are clearly too much of an old dumbshit to see the bigger picture.

FloridaMan88 04-29-2012 08:28 AM

The old dumbshit better hope that his new grandkid doesn't inherit his dumbshit genes.

It never gets old...

Hamas, if you're reading this, **** "honor" and all this meaningless crap. Nobody gives a shit if you keep your word, and everybody here wants you back posting.

The draft forum needs you. The drafturbators need you. You are a source of truth for a team that still thinks Super Bowls can be won with Trent Dilfer clones at QB.

Please don't do this to yourself.- SNR, 1/8/2012
