Something bizarre
So according to NFL network the Chiefs get the highest grade in the division and do a nice job...over on ESPN they are called one of the draft losers by Jaws and his little group, WTF?
|
Meh. Talking heads.
|
I just thought it was odd to see such a huge difference in opinion.
|
Jaws doesn't know what he's talking about. NflN probably doesn't either, that's why I stopped cable and started depending on ChiefsPlanet experts.
|
I agree with espn
|
I guess if they have their mind made up that Poe's a bust then they'd think our draft sucked.
|
Jaws is a Quarterback guy. Like alot of people on this board bitching about getting a quarterback where there were few.

I still can't believe we made no effort to replace Cassel. I thought his contract was structured in a way that made it easy to cut ties with him after 3 years. Oh well, on the bright side, we only have three more years of Cassel.

It's sarcasm.

I think Cassel's only still here because he was injured. A full season the way he was playing and he's gone right now. But he has a literal smörgåsbord of line and skill position talent assembled for him, so assuming he fails again there won't be any other shoulders to put it on, although the "nth OC in x years" will probably pop up. I think this is going to be his swan song, although I don't think we're going to see a QB drafted next year. I think we'll see another vet brought in.
|
The Stanzi fascination baffles me. I've never really thought of him as a legitimate option as a starter. (yes, even over Cassel)

Best (and probably only) shot we have for a vet QB is a situation like Brees and Rivers in SD. But I have no idea where or who that might be. |

You remember Casse's biggest game; the playoff game against the Ravens? Whenever Cassel dropped back I would hold my breath and whisper please, please, please. Stanzius Maxiumus. He had a 5 INT game. Gets booed by everyone in the stands. Comes out in the 4th QT a different QB, lights it up and blows them away 42-24.

But there's another small part of me that never understood why he fell that low. Played a much more complex offense than a common spread guy, good enough size, good enough arm, not the most accurate guy but more accurate than Brady Quinn, and good character/leadership. I mean, Cousins scared the living shit out of me and he went a whole round higher than Stanzi. So yeah, I know it's irrational, but I still like Stanzi's chances even though I know I shouldn't. |
Well I'm not a fan of 3 & outs that make us punt all the time. I'd much rather have a QB able to take posessions down the field to give us drives that lead to a bunch of scoring opportunities even if he throws some INTs in a game. Out scoring the opponant is the name of the game. Not having scoring drives is the kill factor to victory.

This is quite strange. They continue on their drive. They aren't going anywhere specific, but they need to re-fuel. At the gas station, they see posters advertising the circus. This is quite strange. They go to the circus. The ringmaster announces that the elephants have escaped. The place is quickly overrun with media and law enforcement. Pauly, Pele, and Zina rush back to their car and drive away, heading towards lights in the distance. The adventure continues from there, but if you want to know more, you'll need to purchase the rights to the tale. This is quite strange. |
Stanzi Stanzi he's our man, something something rhymes with spam.

I can understand a Mizzou fan being extremely skeptical about Stanzi considering his performance in the Iowa vs. Mizzou bowl game. Probably his worst game of his Senior season (that I can think of off the top of my head anyways).

I just think that if Stanzi can get fair playing time in preseason he can show that he can take over at some point once Cassel starts to fail and the crowd at Arrowhead call for his head. That's about what it's going to take for him to become our starter and get rid of Cassel. He also has to do better than Quinn as Quinn is Romeos boy from Cleveland. Stanzi did not get fair playing time last years preseason.
|
Is it bizarre? Lots of people in the media...lots of opinions.
|
I actually love the Seahawks draft.. Some say we had the worst draft EVAR. meh.. we'll see

I wish the seahawks were still in the chiefs division, that way we could beat them a zillion times.

Analyzing the draft is like meeting a girl in a bar and deciding right there whether she'd make a good long-term wife. Tom Brady was panned. Ryan Leaf and Rick Mirer were #2 overall picks (after Peyton Manning and Drew Bledsoe, respectively). JaFatass, mentioned above. There are so many wrong decisions made about quarterbacks it's not funny.
People clamor for Stanzi for one simple reason: he hasn't been given a chance. He could be nothing but Jim Sorgi. Or he could be Tom Brady. But they'll never know if they don't try him. Matt Cassel? Brady Quinn? They know what they have in those two: not much. On a good day, they can lead a team to a win; on a bad day, they can singlehandedly lose a game. That applies to most quarterbacks but, unlike the very good quarterbacks, Cassel and Quinn (like many other mediocre QBs) can't overcome many obstacles (like turnovers) or make average players look great, or actually lead a team (i.e. be a leader). Yes, it's possible to win a Super Bowl with mediocrity (e.g. Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson). But there's no coincidence that this is the list of the past 20+ years of SB QBs. Note the red years, in which IMO both QBs weren't very good (hence the reason a Dilfer-type won). Note the green names, which seem to repeat. Note the blue names, who are quality one-time winners on this list. XXIV (1989): Winner, Joe Montana; Loser, John Elway XXV (1990): Winner, Jeff Hostetler; Loser, Jim Kelly XXVI (1991): Winner, Mark Rypien; Loser, Jim Kelly XXVII (1992): Winner, Troy Aikman; Loser, Jim Kelly XXVIII (1993): Winner, Troy Aikman; Loser, Jim Kelly XXIX (1994): Winner, Steve Young; Loser, Stan Humphries XXX (1995): Winner, Troy Aikman; Loser, Neil O'Donnell XXXI (1996): Winner, Brett Favre; Loser, Drew Bledsoe XXXII (1997): Winner, John Elway; Loser, Brett Favre XXXIII (1998): Winner, John Elway; Loser, Chris Chandler XXXIV (1999): Winner, Kurt Warner; Loser, Steve McNair XXXV (2000): Winner, Trent Dilfer; Loser, Kerry Collins XXXVI (2001): Winner, Tom Brady; Loser, Kurt Warner XXXVII (2002): Winner, Brad Johnson; Loser, Rich Gannon XXXVIII (2003): Winnner, Tom Brady; Loser, Jake Delhomme XXXVIX (2004): Winner, Tom Brady; Loser, Donovan McNabb XL (2005): Winner, Ben Roethlisberger; Loser, Matt Hasselbeck XLI (2006): Winner, Peyton Manning; Loser, Rex Grossman XLII (2007): Winner, Eli Manning; Loser, Tom Brady XLIII (2008): Winner, Ben Roethlisberger; Loser, Kurt Warner XLIV (2009): Winner, Drew Brees; Loser, Peyton Manning XLV (2010): Winner, Aaron Rodgers; Loser, Ben Roethlisberger XLVI (2011): Winner, Eli Manning; Loser, Tom Brady 23 years. 46 participants. Elway: 3 Kelly: 4 Aikman: 3 Favre: 2 Warner: 3 Brady: 5 Roethlisberger: 3 P. Manning: 2 E. Manning: 2 That list of 9, probably all headed for Canton, comprises 27 of 46 (over half). In 10 years (89-98), Elway, Kelly, Favre, and Aikman took 12 of 20 spots (with 1 to Montana and 1 to Young as well). In 13 more recent years (99-11), Warner, Brady, Roethlisberger, P. Manning, and E. Manning took 15 of 26 spots (with 1 to Brees and 1 to Rodgers as well). And you can even make a case that some of the black-font losers (Bledsoe, McNair, McNabb) are excellent QBs and, with a break here or there, would be in Canton as well. You can win without a great quarterback. But the odds aren't good. Hence, people want to know if Stanzi is going to be the 10th guy on that list, or a perennial benchwarmer. And you can't find out if you don't play him. |
It's just like here. Sitters on both sides.
I don't value their opinions any more than posters here. Less actually. |
