Lately, we've had a few users who think bumping threads from years ago is fun for them. It's nothing new necessarily but the mod team has had more and more complaints on the matter. At least 2 people have been banned over it. So we wanted to make an announcement. If you are browsing the archives and decide to bump an old thread to the front page you should have a very compelling reason and state it in your bump post. Otherwise, you may risk a vacation. This rule applies in the lounge area at this time only. It doesn't seem to be a problem in subforums.

I'm not a fan of this wording... this policy/rule is very subjective. Who decides what is "very compelling"? There's no way to quantify this.

how can we post or know it is safe to bump old threads? who is the judge of whether the bump was worthy of taking place? what if I strongly believe that I had good reason to bump the thread and some random mod decides I was just trolling? is there an appeal process? will we be allowed to have a mediator or be judged by a jury of our posting peers?

1. Start a new thread with a poll announcing your plans to bump a thread.
2. Allow a minimum of 3 hours of voting
3. Start a second thread explaining that the bump is valid and will occur shortly.
4. Bump thread with the first post after the bump explaining the reasons for the bump.

You're right. Basically that means don't randomly bump threads for kicks. The vast majority won't have any problem with this ever. But there have been 2 or 3 guys who think it's funny to bump threads by typing "bump", "Cassel Sucks", "Peyton Manning", and so on. One idiot in particular likes to do 7 or 8 at a time.

Can you suggest otherwise? Its bad when you have to visit other boards, hell even other chiefs boards to get football talk, just to get some football insight...

There's the rub. Nobody is going to get banned for bumping a single thread. Nobody is going to get banned the first time they circumvent a filter. Become a problem child and you're going to have problems. This new rule isn't going to apply to 99.99% of the people here because at least 30% of those people aren't idiots.

Well it is nice when the rules and the possible effects of them are obvious and out in the open. You can't be surprised when they are clear with what is going on and when they establish what the rules are it doesnt look like they are making it up as they go along. I personally appreciate it.
