Drew Brees gets PAID

Chris Mortensen ‏@mortreport

,@DrewBrees, #Saints reach agreement on 5 yr, $100-mill deal, including $40 mill in year 1; $60 mill guaranteed in 1st 3 yr. More on #ESPN

HemiEd 07-13-2012 11:36 AM

Wow

Pasta Little Brioni 07-13-2012 11:37 AM

Offer the Saints a 1st and Cassel and see if they'll bite. Never hurts to try!!!/dumbasses

Zebedee DuBois 07-13-2012 11:37 AM

The Beatles' "Taxman" started playing in my head

pr_capone 07-13-2012 11:37 AM

It was inevitable. Now we can move forward, secure in the knowledge, that KC isn't going to make a move for Brees and we are going to stick with Marv Kasl through this season.

rico 07-13-2012 11:38 AM

Holy......

Quesadilla Joe 07-13-2012 11:38 AM

Was kinda hoping Brees would miss all of training camp. Denver plays the Saints pretty early in the season.

Rain Man 07-13-2012 11:38 AM

I still think we can get him.

Ace Gunner 07-13-2012 11:39 AM

Great news! Now Pioli can get the trade done and Brees is coming to kansas city!!! / CP dumbassery

BossChief 07-13-2012 11:40 AM

Honestly, I thought he would get a little more...good deal for both sides.

BoneKrusher 07-13-2012 11:41 AM

Pioli missed out bigtime by not offering Cassel and a couple late round picks for Brees.

Dayze 07-13-2012 11:44 AM

great., now that Brees has this, it's only going to make us pay even more to re-sign Cassel

L.A. Chieffan 07-13-2012 11:45 AM

Cassell is a straight bargain

I think Cassell was like 14 in 1993.

Let's just blame the entire franchises struggles on him, shall we?

That is all on our crappy management that loves to get shitty QBs to manage the game for us. We have had only two good QBs since 1991. One is a Hall of Famer the other didn't get the benefit of a defense.

Those teams winning Super Bowls is the only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope for our team. It's a different era now days of course, but if our defense and running game plays absolutely lights out and some shit goes our way, perhaps we could win a god damn playoff game...

They don't play each other until week 8. But don't worry, following the inevitable Peyton Manning injury, they will be long out of the playoff hunt by then.

Are you talking about the 85 Bears? Chicago hasn't won a Super Bowl since then

Mr. Laz 07-13-2012 01:00 PM

He can pretty much say goodbye to winning another super bowl now

but he got paid

CoMoChief 07-13-2012 01:01 PM

How much $ did they save this year due to the suspensions?

That's not an unreasonable contract at all.

He probably has 3 years at an elite level left, followed by a couple of decline seasons. They can give him his massive money up front and perhaps approach him about restructuring the last 2 years into a 5-year deal that allows him to finish out his playing years in that 'ambassador' role as they try to re-shape their offense post-Brees.

When you have an elite QB, you pay what it takes. That deal is extremely reasonable given Bree's ability and performance in NO.

Breese deserves every penny of the contract and it makes perfect business sense for NO to get the contract done given the recent crackdown of their franchise. Hopefully this will be a future "problem" with the Chiefs organization in getting a HOF caliber QB under contract.

chefsos 07-13-2012 03:27 PM

Drew Brees, three years from now, to an investor: "Hey, you wanna buy the Saints with me? I've got about half the money right here in this pillowcase."

That's doesn't mean he counts $40 million against this years cap. His prorated signing bonus, plus this years salary doesn't seem all that much for a player the caliber of Breese.

Without all the typical Chiefsplanet drama, I honestly feel you know the answer to your question. Stats don't lie, and Pioli wouldn't be a smart businessman if he threw his starting QB under the bus. Had Pioli been confident in Casshole being a franchise caliber QB, he wouldn't have made a move for Manning in the offseason.

Revenue for who though. It goes to the owners, who keep it or pay the players with it.

Mr. Laz 07-15-2012 04:02 PM

apparently Drew Brees is going to make more than the rest of the starting offense combined

2012 Cash Totals

Brees: $40 million

Rest of Saints offense: $37.755 million

Sassy Squatch 07-15-2012 04:16 PM

Might as well let him chomp on that cap space now so you can go out and get players later.
