It's So Hot In Independence....

A mailman dropped dead today. Terrible news. This is not in my neighborhood, think it was over by 35th and 39th St, which would be South Independence.

Here I was, about to burst into this thread with a cheery "How hot is it?" and you had to be a Debbie Downer with something sad.

Phobia 07-25-2012 06:27 PM

I would submit that's a heat aided death. People don't drop dead in 106 without some other underlying problem. I mean, I'm no M.D. but I think most of us, properly hydrated and nourished can survive that kind of heat.

Does Matt Cassel by chance have a side job as a mail man?

KCUnited 07-25-2012 06:38 PM

Definitely need to crank up the electrolyte intake out there.

I heard he took vacation last week, and came into work sick because they wouldn't let him take another day off...

Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds

I guess they should have added heat and he'd still be alive.

Survive, yes. Work in it? That is a different animal.

Im always shocked by people who can go on camera just days or hours after a tragic loss to someone close to them? I know i couldnt do it.

What was wrong with the widows voice?

My sympathy to the family. Really, it's an awful loss for them. Carrying mail is an honorable career and I have plenty of respect for those who choose it. But that's not exactly the height of outdoor physical exertion.

And here I figured the punchline would be "The Meth cooked itself".

My regards to the postal employee.

Shit, my mail would get intercepted well even before it reaches my mailbox.

Great minds, and all that.

And RIP and stuff to the guy.

Maybe some Crystal light over some Ice.

tooge 07-26-2012 07:49 AM

I always figured the "foot route" maile carrier guys and gals must be in pretty decent shape. I don't know how far they walk every day, but it has to me several miles. This guy must have either been not hydrating or he had some other medical issue. Plus, it's not like this is the first day its been hot here. It's been like this for a month.

gblowfish 08-23-2012 02:48 PM

More info on this from the KC Star today. His wife said no lawyer would touch it because the Post Office is "Federal" and the courts won't allow the gubment to "lose a lawsuit."
The whole thing sucks.

That's what life insurance is for.
