Worried: Someone tell me why we won't get murdered by Atlanta.

Our D might well end up a good one as the season progresses. But I'm very very worried about the first game. Not just to lose, but to lose discouragingly big.

1- Our DL while solid has not shown signs of wreaking havoc in the opponents' backfield. Yes I'm told that's the style of 34 Romeo plays. But wait....

2- Without Tamba Hali Ryan will have all day to throw, especially considering point 1.

3- The thought of Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Gonzo, against our depleted secondary stresses me to almost puking.

This is gonna be one of those games when we see passes completed against our D with scary consistency. The only way we have any chance to win this is if we can manage long time consuming run heavy drives that would keep the Atlanta O on the bench for the majority of the game. Maybe that's why Daboll was emphasizing the run in the last preseason game so much.

Tell me something hopeful.

Setsuna 09-01-2012 01:25 PM

You will.

Shogun 09-01-2012 01:26 PM

We have Matt Cassel.

Bowser 09-01-2012 01:26 PM

You mean our depleted D (no Tamba, Flowers, DJ, and Lewis hurt) and 1991 offense isn't filling you full of confidence against a team that can score pretty much when they want?

Brock 09-01-2012 01:27 PM

I'm reminded of how we were going to get murdered by San Francisco.

why can't we win?

Saccopoo 09-01-2012 01:30 PM

Atlanta sucks and are a bunch of chokers.

As well, Gonzalez will be burdened with much remorse and longing in his return to Kansas City, and will secretly meet with the Chiefs coaching staff at an undisclosed KC BBQ joint, giving them Atlanta's playbook that he wrote in succulent BBQ sauce on a napkin.

Or, in channeling the ghost of Hank Stram, Daboll goes retro and plays the wishbone with Charles, Hillis and McCluster the whole game. Not remotely knowing how to defend such a formation, Atlanta's defense crumbles and the Chiefs set a single game NFL rushing record.

Or, Cassel and McCluster form a symbiotic, telepathic bond, enabling them to be one single, fabulous football entity, perfectly timing every single route, providing the Chiefs offense with first down after first down, not punting once in the game, and dominating the clock and scoreboard.

Or, Matt Ryan's head falls off right before the coin flip.

New World Order 09-01-2012 01:31 PM

It's going to be Week 1 Buffalo at Kc v2.0

Their offensive line sucks.

Their defense is soft and looks like the worst tackling defense in the league.

They have no MLB.

They have no safeties.

Ryan chokes in big games.

He's 0-2 when starting the season on the road.

The Falcons have never won at Arrowhead.

Dante84 09-01-2012 01:36 PM

Remember when Frankie ruined the season last year by posting some crazy shit before game 1?

Then Berry ****ed up his knee.

jd1020 09-01-2012 01:37 PM

Only thing I can think of is Charles and Hillis going off and keeping the Atlanta offense on the sideline.

This.

The only thing I'm confident about is our ability to run the ball.

We ran the ball well with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings.

So, I expect us to run the ball well. So well, Hillis is my #2 RB in one league. :)

Rasputin 09-01-2012 01:55 PM

Meh. They said Atlanta had the number one rushing D at the time.
They said they had this QB that would run circles around our defense & at the time our defense wasn't too good.

That day we posted a 56 to 10 victory on the dirty birds & had 8 rushing TDs. That day was a good day.

Remember from the 50 anything can happen ;)

Spoiler!

JD10367 09-01-2012 01:55 PM

The early lines have Atlanta favored at -2 to -2.5 in most places.

They must really consider Arrowhead to be a touchdown's difference, 'cause I would've expected the line to be more like -9.

Falcons have one of the best secondaries in the league. It's their LBers that suck and their d-line is overrated.

Chiefs Pantalones 09-01-2012 02:02 PM

JMO, but I think we're gonna milk the F out of time of possession with Hillis, Charles and short to intermediate passes. I don't think the Falcons' offense will get going just on the account of not being able to get into a rhythm. We're really gonna need the 12th man as well. I mean 90's style. Not like lately.

If they swapped teams 3 years ago I think Cassell could have easily done a better job with that offense

beach tribe 09-01-2012 02:27 PM

Because Chales, and Hillis are going to be unstoppable on the ground, and it will open up the PA passing. Bowe, and Berry are going to have big games, and Houston is going to pick up where he left off last season, and murder their RT.

As long as we don't start the game off at home with a run, run, run, punt we will stand a good chance at winning. When we get into a rhythm early at Arrowhead, things just tend to click for us. Ex: 2010 vs. San Francsisco

it's gonna be that or a two yard dumpoffs.
there's NO WAY Daboll will let Matt attempt a throw 15 yards deep vs this secondary.

Ace Gunner 09-01-2012 03:00 PM

Look at the bright side, you won't have to watch Michael Turner dragging the entire Chiefs defense 10 yards a pop:doh!:

They've been working on a screen pass game, this Chiefs defense isn't good with that. They have a good RB in Jaquizz Rodgers that likes to catch out the backfield and he can go.

They'll use that short game to get the long passing game going or visa versa.

Well, the Chiefs are a playoff caliber team, I guess. So, maybe they have a chance.

Two players I think will be pivital in this game -- Matt Cassel & Dontari Poe.

If those two get going, the Chiefs have a chance.

Jamaal & Hillis will have some success, but in order for the Chiefs to win I believe they need to score twice or more in the air and sack Matt Ryan 3 times. Poe may not get a sack, but if he can pressure from that RDE position Houston could get it done.

I would think it was a bad twist, that left him sore. You can twist an ankle pretty bad to where it's not a sprain, but hurts like 3-4 days later.

Mr. Laz 09-01-2012 04:08 PM

pretty much our only chance to win against Atlanta is in the trenches.

If we dominate at the LOS then we have a chance.

If we don't then i expect Ryan to throw for 400+ yards which will make our running game worthless.

Deberg_1990 09-01-2012 04:09 PM

Its just 1 game at the beginning of September, I want them to win of course, but if we lose, its not that big a deal in the grand scheme. and its an interconference game as well, technically the least important.

But somehow, CP will make it out to be "The Sky is falling" if we lose.
