http://getfile2.posterous.com/getfil...11-01-logo.jpg

Never forget those who we lost on 9-11 and we will always honor those who served in the name of justice.

Shoutouts to those brave firefighters, policemen, and everyone else who went into those burning buildings to save people. Also our troops you all are badasses thank you for your service.

RIP Emersyn Jayne

Date means different things to different people. 4 years ago today I was sitting in a hospital room waiting for my wife to deliver a baby we had just discovered wasn't going to going home with us. Hardest day of my life. Harder than boot camp. Harder than war.

Sorry about that Phobia

Braincase 09-11-2012 05:30 AM

I recall that a Chiefs football was found in the rubble, and it coincided with the silence of a CP poster in New York absence.

InChiefsHeaven 09-11-2012 05:33 AM

My son is in his third week of Boot Camp at San Diego for the Marines. He was 7 years old when the towers came down. I believe 9-11 is one of the reasons he was inspired to Military service.

Man, it's on a Tuesday this year and everything. I had just started my current job only a couple weeks before. My whole frame of reference of my early weeks here centers on 9-11.

Black Bob 09-11-2012 06:02 AM

It was a sad day for sure. I heard a great interview with Leo Mazzone, former Braves pitching coach, this morning. The Braves played the Mets in that first game after the towers fell and he was talking about how emotional it was. That's the game Piazza hit the big game winning home run and the place went crazy and people were crying etc. It was very symbolic. He said the ump missed a solid strike three right before the home run and he and Bobby Cox just looked at each other and were like, "we can't argue that tonight." :) He said it never felt so good to lose.....

I'm sorry, Phil. That had to be awful beyond words.

My story isn't as awful but none the less illustrates your point of different things to different people. Four years ago today I had to euthanize the greatest soul ever to grace the earth, my 16 year old cat Bandy. He appeared to save the day when I was deep in a postpartum depression. I had never had a cat and didn't like them (due to my mother's indoctrination) and he basically changed that. I will never be without one. He bravely fought from advanced heart and kidney failure for two years when he was given a very small window of time to live. Up until the end he was terrorizing small animals and bringing them home for me as a gift. I miss him.

Me too and I'm fairly afraid of heights. Anything is better than burning alive though. It would be terrifying to do it but the pain would be nothing more than instantanious and gone if at all... likely not at all. In some way jumping seems more like taking charge of your own destiny as well... albeit not much of a destiny.

I heard someone says "Why are they jumping" on the video. Well... think about it.

Just guessing here of course... but I can imagine it gets somewhat easier once the heat from the fire becomes too much to bear or flames start getting to you. At that moment I can see making the choice.

A year or so ago I was driving back to my hometown from where I'm currently at - it was about an 1 1/2 hour drive. I happened to be listening to Howard Stern, and they replayed the 9/11/01 show. It was incredible. They saw the buildings hit from where they were in NYC. The entire demeanor changed instantly. Gave me chills.

Sorry for the early hijack with my own life's drama but I thought I would report back how the day went...
Yes, I have older children and we recently had a healthy first son who is now 6 weeks old. Every previous 9-11 since Emersyn's passing has been a weepfest and difficult for my wife. It's just another day for me since I'm a dude but it hurts watching someone you love struggle. So, today was awesome. Definitely some of the pain has eased because another year has passed but having a newborn around to fill that empty spot has been amazing therapy for my wife. We'd have most definitely not had more kids had Emersyn been healthy so while the boy doesn't replace her, it does help fill that void - including the nursery that had gone untouched since her death until the boy became obviously viable and she started nesting.
