Possible trade suitors for Cassel? LNBS

Seattle - trade dead weight in hopes that new scenery inspires them? Cassel for Flynn?

Jets - Sanchez is shaky and their OC is of Parcellian lineage. Get 6th.

Cardinals - Kolb is broken, Skelton is ok and there is no one else. Get a 6th.

Browns - Because they are stupid enough to draft a 29yr old rookie long shot in the first round. Get a 3rd.

With him due 17 million the next 2 years, we would be lucky if GODell let's us release him.

Any GM that wants to acquire Matt Cassel should be fired on the spot. That includes drafting him, or watching him suck for years in person and then trading for him to be your guy...

Woodchuck 10-23-2012 06:35 AM

If anyone wanted Cassel, I think it would be a contender. Maybe the Jets or Cards? Someone like that. No crappy team is going to trade for him.

We will certainly try and trade him to someone dumber than Pioli-if that's even possible.

If not, he will be waived and we owe him nothing next year and a very small salary cap hit. We took the brunt of the SC hit on the front end

Woodchuck 10-23-2012 08:23 AM

I definately think we could get something for him if we really try and trade him. The guy has had two winning seasons out of four. He has sucked worse than ever but back up QBs who have won that many games are rare. We could at least get a 7th.

Pioli can keep his job if he flies to Boston, incapacitates Belichick, and physically abuses him with his penis until Belichick agrees to take Cassel back in exchange for Brady and a 1st round pick.

If Asante Samuel, an actually productive player, goes for only a 7th, then I can't imagine that Cassel will net us anything.

I think AZ would rather start Lindley than Cassel. Jags might bite for a 7th if Henne is an abomination but I doubt it.

No one would give a bag of dog shit for Cassel.

DaWolf 10-23-2012 11:19 AM

The Chiefs should probably do what the Donx did last year and cut Cassel in a few weeks. Go with two QB's and if Quinn gets hurt or continues to suck, ride out the rest of the season with Stanzi and see what he can do. Leave no questions for next year. The only downside is that you have a GM and a coach who are fighting for their jobs, not the No 1 draft pick, so that scenario won't happen...

bevischief 10-23-2012 12:01 PM

What exactly is his contract breakdown? I mean, how much has he already been paid (by year) and how much is he contracted for (by the year) still?

I'm wondering because Manning got 18, 20, 20, 19 and 19. Only that first 18 is guaranteed. Pending a physical next year, the 20's becomes guaranteed.

One should never laugh at or deride the handicapped, Mr. Chief_For_Life58.

Besides, Mr. listopencil doesn't have a little, simple, denver brain. He has a giant melon brain that was merely overheated when his nanny stuffed him in the oven for a couple of hours while she went out to sell her underarm hair to the local sweater shop.

listopencil 10-23-2012 11:18 PM

Help me out if I'm wrong here. In July of 2009 he signs a six year deal. It's worth $63 MIL with $28 MIL guaranteed. So you can say $10.5 per year. He was paid $40.5 MIL for 2009, 2010 and 2011 (I assume) to cover the guaranteed part of the contract. That leaves $22.5 MIL over the next three years that KC is contracted to pay him, but they can still cut him with little to no penalty because they have already paid out his guaranteed money. Right?

I think that's right. Although, part of the additional monies were in the form of a roster bonus that was paid in 2011, if I'm not mistaken. So, I'm not sure if he's owed as much as 7m per year at this point ...

I think the cap hit is laid out when the contract is signed. $63 MIL over six years is 10.5 per regardless of how much he is actually paid during each season. It changes if guys get cut with guaranteed money left on the tab or, of course, if they restructure. It's been a while since I looked at the rules though.

Only the signing bonus is prorated over the life of the contract.

The cap hit for any given year = base salary for THAT year + any current, applicable bonuses (roster, participation, etc.) + prorated portion of signing bonus.

EDIT: In other words, the chances of someone trading for Cassel is less than zero because he's hitting the two highest base salary years of his contract.

el borracho 10-24-2012 07:45 AM

Pro Bowl. Priceless.

Rasputin 10-24-2012 09:01 AM

How about HELL? I mean I'd rather trade his soul to the debil for the guarantee at taking a #1QB in the draft than my own. So I think Hell would be a good suiter.

If I could think of a loop hole to get out of it I'd do it myself, but for right now I'd like to keep my soul in hopes to go to heaven. However come towards the end of my time and we not win a Super Bowl maybe there would be more consideration. I'd sell my brothers soul to the debil for a Super Bowl but he is a raitard fan so he is already going to Hell.

OK that makes sense. I had forgotten about signing bonuses, and the article I read didn't mention one.
