Apple announcement
No thread for this?
So far a new Macbook Pro 13in., Maci Mini, and iMac. I have to say, the iMac and Macbook Pro are very sexy computers. Mmmm |
Holy shit at the new iMac edges.... unbelievably thin..
I like what I'm seeing on the Fusion Drives. Amazing new design. http://d35lb3dl296zwu.cloudfront.net...dmini_0298.jpg http://d35lb3dl296zwu.cloudfront.net...dmini_0292.jpg http://d35lb3dl296zwu.cloudfront.net...dmini_0366.jpg http://d35lb3dl296zwu.cloudfront.net...dmini_0369.jpg |
My iMac and MacBook are still performing like they did since day one in 2008. So glad I switched after a decade of multiple PC's and laptops.
|
iPad time now
|
My problem with these new computers without optical drives is I buy a bunch of used DVDs for little of what they sell for retail. But it's becoming hard to play them anywhere. I need to come up with a new solution...
|
Wow...the new iMacs are impressively thin. Certainly would look classy on a desk.

iPad 4? Oh hell

iPad 3 owners are now on suicide watch.

I mean more for travelling though. I like being able to throw a few DVDs in if i'm on a trip, or if I'm staying at a hotel. And watch them on my laptop. I haven't found a good way to replicate that yet. |
|
The headphone jack is going to be on the bottom...

[edit] No, I'm wrong. |

Weird.

But you're right, there has to be a solution. I'm ready to get rid of DVDs as well. |
Ohh, they're saying bad things about my Nexus!
I still love it, but fair play on the app problems. |

What are the dimensions of the Mini? I wonder how well it'll fit in the hand
|
Right now Google and Amazon are praying for a $300+ price.
[edit] $330 starting point. Hmmm |
That's a much better presentation than the last iPhone shit. Some good stuff...

oh yeah.... Nevermind. |
What kind of ripping software are you using to rip your DVDs?
|
Quote:
|
Do you just store them on a hard drive?

I have a HTC One S and Nexus 7, neither of which have SD card slots. But that's the choice I made, so I can't bitch about it. I still have an older Macbook Pro (not retina), so right now I use that mostly for travel. But I'm getting sick of the weight, so I want to upgrade soon. On the new Macbook Pro, SD would still be an option. Right now, my general thought is to build an HTPC and a general "home cloud" with everything on it, and download/stream from there as I want. But I need to research it all much more. I'd prefer to do that along with a real cloud service, but I suspect I'll run into some storage and copyright problems. But we'll see. |

The one I use the most though is Furk. I have an account on Furk.net that allows me to upload files, or copy files from torrent/newsgroup sites to Furk. And Furk allows for the streaming of files directly from their site, including directly streaming torrent files. |

$529 for a 7" 64gb Ipad Mini?????
What are they smoking in Steve's old office? ROFLROFLROFLROFL |
We'll see what happens with Google. Many rumors that this week they'll unveil a 10in Samsung Nexus. If it hit's the iPad mini price, and goes on sale at the same time...

wtf is the 4:3 on the iPad's? Nothing more awesome than having black bars take up screen when watching a movie in HD.

Total work - I'd say you'll do a hour of work per 1 GB. |

The best bet is to just give it a try on that machine. I'd expect something between 30 minutes to 3 hours. I know that's not much help.... |
Thanks for the help!
|
You gotta be a god damn idiot to overpay for an Apple product.
"Oooooo so trendy!!!! I don't mind getting raped in the ass!!!!" "Think I may go buy some Chiefs season tickets....I believe in the process!!!! Sign me up Clark!!!!" |

This is what I need to do. Way to many DVD's cluttering up the place. |
The iPad mini...I don't know. I'm not sure its a better product than the Nexus hardware wise, but for $130 more... Eeek. The big advantage are the apps.
But the new iMac. Love it. Want it. Looking forward to what Microsoft and Google come up with at the end of the month. |

When it comes to Apple people are more deranged than politics or religion.
|
Has Apple lost it's damn mind?
Why release a 7" tablet that has a worse display than every other device you sell AND is even worse than the competition who are selling theirs for over $100 less??? When Google drops it's prices next week (very likely) the iPad Mini will look even dumber. |
Quote:
|
Well, that should kill their iPod Touch sales being the mini is only $30 more.

Apple could stamp their logo into the side of a dog turd and sell it to the iFaithful for $399.

So in a way, yes. |

I'm one of the folks that bought the 3 in March so now 6 months later I'm one of the slightly disappointed customers. |
Even all the Apple guys I talk to were giving Apple mad shit...
|
I dislike the iPad mini. But then, I hate all small tablets. I don't understand the point. They're too small to do much more than my phone will.
|
They've got a place...just not for me at this point. There's a 27" iMac in my future though, that's for darn sure.
As far as the pricing goes, they don't care. People that bought on price have been buying plastic knock off tablets for a while now anyway and they're not interested in that market. If you don't have to compete on price, why would you? Price comparison between the Mini and the iPod touch? The success of the iPod Mini in comparison with the Classic shows that they aren't necessarily competing products. Plus there is a big difference between iPad apps and iPhone apps. If I had cash sitting around where I could pick up an iPad now I might be tempted to get the iPad 3 instead of the 4 since it would still work with all the 30 pin connectors I've got around here. |
I heard threes are going to become obsolete as soon as the fours come out. In other words if you want a three you have to get them now before they stop making them. Or buy used

How are you charging it? Have you completely reset it to see if that helps? You can hold the power button down for 15 seconds, which will let you power it off. You might have an app that's going crazy. |

My iPod Touch had the same issue. Could barely hold a charge through a run. I got it for free with my laptop, so I didn't give a shit really; I just figured it was a lemon. Then one day it went insane and I had to reset it... perfect battery life after.
