It's pretty nice - I'm going to have to get the wheels powder-coated - as that's plasti-dip. which I'm not a fan of.

Thanks Mac, I like it - however I'm not throwing a tune on this one - the other one already got me one ticket - So I really have to watch it now.

Thanks again.

Yup - I have the 335i and the 135i now - I'm no longer really in to Audi's that much. Ty though - I really appreciate the words, I love cars and seriously could talk about them for hours, sort of like you and BigCatDaddy talk about fitness. LOL

Simply Red 09-24-2014 07:33 PM

They gave me 7k for the Audi which was surprising - I was expecting about 5500$.

I've had more than one of both - and unless you're getting a r8 - they're not as solid as BMW (IMO) - Throw a tune on a 335i you will beat 90% of challengers out there - of course now - the only time I'll get crazy is on a track - however prior to my ticket I whipped an s4's ass - like bad in the 335 I have.

I put a JB4 and a DCI kit on my '08 335xi. Trying to figure out where to go from here. I think downpipes are the next recommended upgrade but on the xi it sounds like that requires some major work. Have you done that to your 335? If so, does it alter the sound much? I'm hoping it maintains a respectable sound rather than sounding like a fart in a coffee can.

I love the S-line, but I really like the TDI - the 2106 Passat TDI is supposed to be 236 horses and 368 ftlbs of torque in AWD with the DSG transmission....that has got me excited - especially if they are giving the A4 TDI the same setup

i had the jb4 on the first grey sedan - I have the Cobb Access Port on the 09 black one - I prefer the 'built-into ECU' vs the piggy-back - though JB4 will give you slightly better pull. Tell you what - if you're using run-flats - next time try the Bridgestone s04's - they hook the road like nothing else - and are $980 per set versus those rip-off Mich. Super-sports which are $1150/set.

Tires are critical - You'll see tremendous gains if you simply buy some regular tires versus those crappy run-flats.

Yeah the black one (not to brag) but it's pulling 428/torque rating. That's after the tune though. but that's what makes it feel like a little black demon :D

The DP's will help your spool - they'll help it sound a tad more throaty, but it sounds smooth - it doesn't sound like a ricer, btw - I did also have AR catless downs on that other 07 335i gray sedan. That thing was faster than the black one - but felt a little less safe to be perfectly honest.

Nice, I bought it last year and the dealership luckily had put new tires on it beforehand. When it is due for new ones I'll gladly switch over. I don't get much slip though because I'm in an XI, so AWD helps a lot.

:doh!:

oh yeah - that's true - I didn't even think of that - but still will help.

Are you getting some nice pull from the JB4? I would add it to this one - however I have that same twin-turbo set up w/ much less weight - I just can't justify it - esp. after that ticket. :( This car would be much faster than the 335i if it TOO were tuned - but as for now - the 335 would demolish this stock version of it's smaller sibling.

Oh well tyvm - I do too - it wasn't too pricey - I got a darned good deal on it - however it does have 80k mis - but that Audi had 121k.

Cool, I was hoping keep the existing sound or even go a little deeper. Good to know it'll sound stock-ish.

It's pretty quick as is, and the only real gripe I have is that the acceleration seems to die off on the top end. It feels like it has more pull from 3000- 5500 or so than 5500 to redline. Am I imagining things? I don't know what I was thinking, I got an automatic instead of manual, so stomping the pedal almost always puts me into the upper rpm range. Sort of irritating that I can't shift early to avoid the dead zone. :banghead:

I'm guessing a DP won't really help much in that area, but it sounds like the gateway mod to raise your boost levels and add on more goodies.

Yes the DP's help out the sound, again - you'll be pleased there.

I think the DP's help mostly directly off of the line - I mean - you ghost other cars REALLY fast w/ JB4+DP's. Super fast off of the line. Your spool is basically from a stop. But yeah - I know - sometimes they feel like they're TRYING to offer more power upper end speeds (and you're certainly getting plenty of satisfaction, still) BUT you just know there is more there that is capable of being unlocked/unleashed - I know what you're saying and no - no you're not imagining that.

Keep this up and I'll be online talking cars with you until 6AM LMAO.

I dig the JB4. It made a huge improvement from the stock acceleration of course. I managed to get not one but two traffic tickets in one week a few months back. One in the BMW and the other on a motorcycle. That's what you call a bad week. Neither were too bad at least.

I've been a little easier on the pedal since then. Luckily since I live near the outskirts of the city, there are some nice roads with prairies on each side that provide an opportunity to let it loose on occasion.

I looked for a nice 135 around KC. At the time all I could find were 335s. The few 135s I did look at were beat up. Not sure why- guessing maybe they appealed more to younger drivers?

No, I hadn't. Low 13s in the 1/4 mi bone stock? That's not too shabby. It's got the N55 engine though, which I shied away from because it wasn't supposed to be as tuneable. I guess time will tell though- they seem to get more out of them once the warranties start expiring. ;)

yes - I was told by TopSpeed in Alpharetta Ga - that they can't yet tune the 435's - but they'll figure them out - I believe they're straight single turbos. I don't remember for sure.

it may've been a m5 - but I tell you - from a performance standpoint 3 series are where it's at - & mind you this is w/o me having driven either the 235i or the 435i, which are still really new.

If it was large coupe could likely have been the last model M6 with a normally aspirated V10 which sounds excellent.

My dad had a 1983 944 back in '87. I used to drive it from time to time. It was normally aspirated though, so not as quick as yours. That was a great car, and for that time period it was pretty fast.

About 10 years ago I ran across a 944 at a dealership that was in very poor shape. It would have cost a small fortune to repair and the interior had even begun to show signs of decay. If it was in good shape, I would have rolled off the lot with it. Those are very fun cars and I still see a few on the road every now and then.

Have you done any performance modifications to yours? I never looked into that, but I'd imagine if it has a turbo, there's some level of tweaking you can do.

Nice upgrade and choice SR, those cars have unbelievable power for their size. Hope you have fun with it.

I recently dumped my Wrangler in favor of an FX35, couldn't be happier with the switch at the moment. Definitely appreciating the lux after living with a TJ for a couple years.

Just got around to actually reading this thread. Nice pickup on the 135. Couldn't quite tell from the pics but is that the lighter titanium silver rather than space grey? Manual or auto since its your daily driver?

Also noticed you traded your older 335 for an 09. Was the older one sparkling graphite metallic? That was one of my favorites on the E92 but they unfortunately killed it off early in the model.

I'm not sure what color BMW called that Gray one - not sure their specific color title - but I do still have the 09 black Coupe 335 - it's called Black Sapphire metallic. I really love that color - it's basically black w/ a speckle in it.

It's a pretty car. The 135i is called cashmere silver, It seems to be a cross between a champagne color (believe it or not) and a pure silver, it's a unique look w/ the black trim. Although I'm going to have to spend around 600$ to powder coat the wheels, as I hate that plasti-dip crap.

Just got around to actually reading this thread. Nice pickup on the 135. Couldn't quite tell from the pics but is that the lighter titanium silver rather than space grey? Manual or auto since its your daily driver?

Miles - I think the night you told me about your rides - Anydong Bluff and some others too had shared what they 'too' drive - so pardon my forgetting - however; what is it you drive again, please?

Thanks SR.

So you like BMW's? My younger brother used to own one of those clownshoe M coupes, think it was 2001 or 2002 model, I wasn't that impressed at first being a V8 or GTFO kind of bloke but he gave me a drive and that 6 cylinder pulls like a teenager.

I had to youtube plastidip since I was not familiar with it. For my taste I'd just get the rims striped and restored to factory (which isnt cheap either) vs powdercoat them black.

Yeah..Lindsey Racing makes all kinds of kits. http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/944.html. You can get these up to 500 HP...which for a small, turbo-charged 4 cylinder is just nuts. Mine is about 275 hp..simple mods..still under 5.0 to 60 MPH and gets 28 mpg too...Porsche nailed this car. For street driving..I think anything faster..I would be in danger of killing myself. It's really about the handling though..they beat $140,000 GT3s on short courses. They are spooky in the twisties....my neighbor races M3s..said he hates my car because he cant catch them on the track.

I've decided i'm going just a high performance paint - powder coating is about $450 more - so instead of just south of $1,000 it'll be $400. I did remove that obnoxious spoiler though.

Jerez Black?

Simply Red 10-04-2014 10:00 AM

My 335 is Black Sapphire Mettalic - the new 135 is Silver Cashmere, which is really cool because it's in between silver and champagne.

I wasn't familiar with the Silver Cashmere color and looks good. Black metallic is my favorite but a big pain to keep maintained correctly. If you are anal about detailing you notice it picks up a ton of microscratches even when you are careful. Others do as well but you can't see them.
