NFL will look at expanding the playoffs to 14 or 16 teams.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer
Goodell just said at his presser that the league will look at expanding the playoffs to 14 or 16 teams. That's to many teams gonna be like the NBA soon. |
Lamar and Carls dream is coming true. LMAO
|
Great, that will increase the chances of us getting bounced in the first round!
|
We need more 7-9 teams in the Super Bowl derby.
|
Goodell is going to f**k up the NFL: no kickoffs, can't tackle or touch the QB, 20 teams in the playoffs....
Good grief! This is the only sport that I still like to watch because every game means something. |
Ya that will go great when they increase it to 18 game season. Teams that suck balls like us this year it would make for an even longer misery season that seems to never end. We would also have greater odds of screwing our selves out of the top pick. Curse you Roger Goodell
|
Expand to 30 and we just miss it.
|
I agree with 14 teams. I think it's nice that the top overall team gets a bye, but why does #2 get it? Oftentimes they have the same record as the 3 or 4 seed, and the quality gap just isn't there. Plus with division winners automatically getting a home game it's not altogether fair anyway.
We went 13-3 in 2003 and the Colts were 12-4. So we got the 2-seed and the bye. PLUS the home game. And we werne't the better team. Seems a bit unfair. |
**** that.
You're gonna have 6-10 teams in there. |
yay -- we're in the playoffs :D
|
As long as it's 100%, we're in! Shit....do we have to lead a game to win?

I don't know. Half of the NFL making the playoffs? There are some pros and cons.
|
Terrible idea. 7-9 teams in the playoffs are already bad enough. Don't water it down anymore. It's all about the $$ so I could see it.
|
i rather see the 18 game schedule but only allow players to play 16 games. that would definitely better imo. Back up qb's would have to start in 2 games.
|
you should only have to win 6 games to get a bowl bid..i mean playoff game
|
12 of 28 teams used to be in the playoffs before Carolina, etc. joined. This wouldn't be that different.
|
We should make the playoffs so that the teams with the worst records make it in and to advance you have to lose the game. For the super bowl only ties are allowed because we don't want to hurt the feelings of the team. That's the american way these days anyway.
|
pro - we make the playoffs
con - we keep a Cassel-esque shity QB and keep him because he took us to the playoffs. damnit |
Yeah so lets let teams with .500 or worse winning percentage into the playoffs.
Well the NFLPA wouldn't agree to more games during the regular season. This may be the way the NFL is trying to get around that somewhat. More televised games = more revenue. |
More playoff games = more head injuries = more acts of violence by players.

Don't like this idea at all. What makes the NFL special is because the regular season means somethings every game\week.
|
Roger Goodell is killing the NFL at an accelerated rate.
|
Sooooo....the Jets, Dolphins, and a slew of other shit teams would be fighting for a playoff spot right now.
Barf. |

Goodell's plan for the NFL "if it aint broke, break it"
I'm just not getting why he thinks he has to **** with Americas #1 sport  |
Roger is hell bent on ****ing up the league before he leaves.

We need to start a 32 city WE DESERVE BETTER FIRE GOODELL banner campaign.

I could see going to 14 teams IF - you pick them all as you would the wild cards. Then you would have fewer losing teams in the race. The 7-9 teams are the ones that win shitty divisions. Downside: if the NFL season expands, player injuries will start to make more of an impact on the playoffs than they already do.
|
Terrible ****ing idea.
SONFL? FIRE GOODELL? |
I could understand it if they were to expand which is certainly a possibility.

I've always felt that 12 teams, whether in a 28 team league, or a 32 team league, was too many teams in the playoffs.
Expanding the playoffs is just a stupid ****ing idea. |

The real answer is this will lead to more games and more TV money. The owners have realized they can keep squeezing this goose because people love football. Wonder how far back this would push the Super Bowl into February.
It really just depends on the year. If it was 16 teams, the 6-7 Jets would currently be in the AFC playoffs, and the 9 seed Cleveland Browns would be the first team out right on their heels. Most of the league would still be in the hunt at this point. |

Might as well make it 24 teams. That way, everybody will know who is going to make the playoffs before the first games when you include almost everybody but the worst teams who can't seem to ever find a way to drag their pitiful asses into our brand-new, ginormous playoff system. Other than more money to the NFL, I don't see the benefit here. FAX |

The playoffs should be reserved for the best teams that earned the right to compete for the championship. We have teams that get hot late in the season winning championships despite a fairly mediocre season on a fairly consistent basis. |
I would just like to take a moment to say that I fully recognize that my previous post makes no sense whatsoever.
Thank you for your time and attention. FAX |

I don't think Goodell understands what a grind a NFL season is for a player. Teams are trying to survive filling the injuries they have now. Goodell can't have his 18 game season, so he wants this now?
IMO many moves that Goodell has made are for the good of the game, things that Tagliabue ignored. This fascination for a longer schedule is idiotic. |

More teams mean more money and more games as well as creating broader interest. Plus, it gives us the additional opportunity to beat somebody like the Mexico City Brahmas like a ginger step-baby. FAX |
As soon as this happens the Chiefs go 16-0 and get pummeled by a 6-10 team in the playoffs.

But regardless of the reason for that mediocrity, teams should not be rewarded for it. |
We're half way to the playoffs baby!

Did the NFL gaming commision get abducted by Aliens lately? Who keeps dreaming up these realy stupid ideas to ruin a good game?

LMAO
The playoffs already aren't interesting until the 2nd round, and now they want to make the regular season much less meaningful (and it's pretty meaningless now). |

Unfortunately, crappy teams can win crappy divisions. So I'd give a little and add a wild card in each conference. |
Turn 2 pre-season games into regular season games and I'm all right with the number going to 18
|
I think there should be only eight. Three divisions in each conference sending in division winners and one wildcard.
|
Stupid ****ing idea for the fans.
Great idea for the owners. |

I'd rather see the playoffs decreased to 5 teams with the overall record deciding the bye week.

It's perfect the way it is.
Don't **** with it. |

Don't care. |
Just award every team a super bowl ring at the end of the year so no feelings are hurt and everyone is treated equally and fairly.
:):whackit: |
If I were in charge, what I'd really do is go back to 2 divisions per conference, expand to 18 games (14 in division games, 4 out of division games), have two bye weeks, all taken between weeks 9 to 11 (which means 1 week in the middle of the season with no football), with each team getting two consecutive weeks off.
4 division winners and 4 wild cards. |

So basicly you like the idea of division winners only. This would probably do away with a bye week for any playoff team. It is also punishing teams that play in good divisions. Where the 2cd place team in a division could have a 10-6 or 11-5 record and stay at home while a team that is 7-9 or 8-8, definition of mediocrity, gets in as usual. That seems a little harsh, understandable but nonetheless harsh. |
This league is becoming less and less watchable every year.

Maybe they'll do away with wild cards and just go with division winners. And then they'll restructure into 16 divisions of 2 teams each.
