Bears Special teams coach Dave Toub (EDIT:) officially signed by KC
Bears Special teams coach Dave Toub under consideration for same position in KC: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ssistant-jobs/ …
McCluster the next Devin Hester? :) |
We've landed on the moon!
|
McCluster would have to learn how to make people miss first
that said ... our specials have been pretty shitty for awhile now. It would be nice if we would actually BLOCK somebody every now and then. |

Tavon will go in the first round cause he is a stud.
He's as shifty as Dante hall. |
Chicago Bears
Brad Biggs + Follow It’s no guarantee Dave Toub will leave #Bears if he is not named head coach. But if he does, my bet is he goes ….. To Kansas City where he could rejoin forces with new Chiefs coach Andy Reid. Toub has already interviewed with the Carolina Panthers and is expected to draw more interest, likely from the Oakland Raiders. The Bears have granted him permission to meet with these other teams even though he remains under contract through 2013. Yes, Toub could be the special teams coordinator in Chicago this coming season for a new head coach. But the opportunity to work with Reid might be compelling enough for him to move. Reid gave Toub his first break in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001. Before that, they worked together at Missouri and UTEP. Toub has seen how a special teams coordinator in John Harbaugh has gone from Reid’s staff to become a head coach. Nothing is done but I would expect Toub to have multiple offers in hand if Phil Emery picks someone else as the head coach of the Bears. In that instance, the Bears might have to step up with the checkbook to retain Toub. 2 minutes ago |
Brad Biggs tweeted out again that he's confident Toub will reunite with Reid.
|
McCluster doesn't have the speed to be a returner. Dante Hall wasn't really a burner, not even close to Hester's speed, but he was fast enough to break one if the blocking was there. Whereas McCluster's a gadget player who runs a 4.6. There's three years of tape on him looking like he's running in mud. His time should be up here. But I'm sure it's not.
Ditto for Arenas as a returner. |
Tab and Hester/yes.

Dave Toub on his way out of Chicago after not making Bears short list http://wp.me/p14QSB-6U0s http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ach-interview/ Toub on his way out of Chicago after head coach interview Bears special teams coach interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy, but he isn’t on the short list for it, and won’t be hanging around to work with the next guy. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Toub is “definitely,” leaving the Bears, and is expected to take a lateral move to the Chiefs though no announcement has been made on that front. Toub also interviewed with the Panthers for a special teams job, but is thought to be leaning toward joining Andy Reid instead. Reid gave Toub his first NFL job in Philadelphia, and the two worked together in the college ranks as well. While Toub is recognized as one of the top special teams coaches in the business, keeping him to work for the guy who beat him out for the head coaching job would have been awkward, and frankly a distraction the new coach doesn’t need. |
Biggs just put out a new tweet that Toub is NOT returning to Chicago and likely KC bound!!!
|
Nice!
|
great news. Wow...
|
Nice hire, it's rare that you get a coach of his quality to make a lateral move like this. Seems like we got lucky with the way the Bears' coaching situation is panning out.

What other coaching positions still need to be filled? O-line?

This staff sans the defense looks good.
|
Why not just grab Hester and make him a full time returner. He was all pissed off when they fired Lovie.

Chiefs Name Dave Toub as Special Teams Coordinator #chiefs |
Toub's teaching skills to help special teams play
The Kansas City Chiefs signed a specialist to their staff Tuesday, announcing Dave Toub as special teams coordinator. Toub joins the Chiefs after spending nine seasons in the same role for the Chicago Bears, who profited from his teaching. During Toub’s Windy City stay, he helped produce eight special teams Pro Bowlers, including KR Devin Hester (2006, 2007 and 2010), KR Johnny Knox (2009), ST Brendon Ayanbadejo (2006-07), K Robbie Gould (2006) and ST Corey Graham (2011). To say Toub’s guys covered the field is an understatement. During his tenure, the Bears registered an NFL-high in kick return yards (punt and kickoff) with 17,031 and kick return TDs (22). He helped Devin Hester become the NFL’s all-time leader in kick return touchdowns (17) and compile the NFL’s fifth-best all-time punt return average mark (12.1 avg.). While coached by Toub, the Bears led the NFL in punt return yards (4,143), punt return TDs (15) and ranked third-best in punt return average (11.2). Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is excited to reunite with Toub, who he worked with in Philadelphia (2001-03), where Toub served as Reid’s assistant special teams/assistant defensive line coach. The duo also served together on staff at the University of Missouri (1989-91), where Toub was in charge of the defensive line and strength and conditioning duties (1989-2000), while Reid served as the Tigers offensive line coach (1989-91). “Dave is one of the league’s best special teams minds,” coach Reid said. “He will bring an innovative approach and consistency to this group. Dave will get the most out of our players and I’m very happy he is joining our staff.” http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/article...1-acc333379543 |
Vikings, Packers, and Lions fans are celebrating this guy leaving the NFC north. This is a GREAT hire.
|
They had 37 return touchdowns in his 9 years? That's insane. That's 4 a year. How many do we have since Dante Hall left?

This is a HUGE hire. Bears have had far and away the best special teams in the league for years.

I like it. The Andy Reid hire has given this club a leverage over other teams to get good people to come here like our new GM and this guy. |
DAMN.....

More excited about this guy than our defensive and offensive coordinators to be honest. But I can't complain one bit about this offseason thus far.

Brad Biggs @BradBiggs
As reported, #Chiefs name Dave Toub as special teams coordinator. He becomes highest-paid ST coach in the NFL. #Bears will miss him. |

Excellent move by Chunt.
Now all we need is a legit punt/kickoff returner. |
Quote:

STOP CALLING HIM CHUNT! It sounds too much like ****. He has now earned his name. Clark the Magnificent.

The amount of crow this place needs to eat over all the "Clark is cheap" statements could fill Arrowhead stadium and the parking lot, and Kauffman.

Phew! Glad this staff and front office is close to set up nicely.
|
Excellent hire by Reid.
|
Im highly confident Reid knows his faults from his last staff so he will correct it and have a far better staff this time
|
|
When he sees that film of Arenas returning punts he's gonna go beg Dorsey and Reid to draft him a returner that can you know actually return.
|
Toub is a terrific coach, period. KC's special teams just took a huge step forward.
|
Brad Biggs @BradBiggs
#Bears special teams assistant Kevin O'Dea is leaving the club to join #Chiefs with Dave Toub. O'Dea had 1 year remaining on his contract. Brad Biggs @BradBiggs #Chiefs Dave Toub on Kevin O'Dea going w/ him: " It’s a package deal. The band is staying together. Kevin is the best at what he does." |
Clark is making it rain.

lol im pretty sure Kevin O Dea was getting coaching offers or at least interviews from other teams, like to be a full time special teams coach. The fact that he declined to stay as an assistant is ridiculously awesome
|
lol our special teams coach is going to get paid more than the Cardinals head coach/GM combined
|
Quote:
Got another strong player endorsement for #Bears to consider Kevin O'Dea for special teams job. "He's a hell of a coach," said one player. @ZachZaidman No idea who will replace Toub, but asst. Kevin O'Dea is terrific kicking coach, smart with schemes, good listener and respected by players. |

There has to be a reason that the lowly miserable lousy Chiefs are getting all this coaching talent. Is it Reid? Dorsey? Clark (and his money)?

This guy could continue his great career if we'd hand him Tavon Austin to work with.
|
Quote:
We aren't taking him @1.1 and we don't have a 2nd round pick anymore. Pretty sure the Rams will grab Austin @16 or @22 to replace Amendola. I could see the rams grabbing 2 guys i like with Austin and Vaccaro in the 1st. |
