Tony Sparano scheduled to interview Monday for OLine Job
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Per @mortreport, Tony Sparano is scheduled to interview Monday for the offensive line coach job with Kansas City Chiefs. Chris Mortensen @mortreport Tony Sparano set to visit Andy Reid on Monday re: Chiefs O-line job after George Warhop decided to remain with Browns. #NFL32 |
Interesting.
|
I like it. A lot.
|
Is that "Sparano" or "Saprano"?
I'd take the latter. |
Nice to see Patriotards being demoted to their positions of competence.
|
Anyone consider the fact that our O-Lineman are going to have to get beefier with Reid as HC and Sporano as OL coach?

What happened to Eugene Chung?
|
Uh oh....isnt he from the Parcells tree? The root of all things "Patriot Way" ?
|

The fact is, both Reid and Sporano are guys that like big, strong, physical O-Lines. |
Quote:
must be slim ****ing pickings out there for all the Patriots failures that have truly hit rock bottom |

Todd Herremans 6'6'' 321 lbs Brandon Albert 6'5'' 315 lbs two of them are Guards, one has been a cornerstone LT. LOL |

His O-lines in Miami were nothing to write home about and our O-line regressed when he became our OC. just my opinion FWIW
|

Plausible deniability. |
Quote:
His belief is that as long as he has a two great T's he's good... |
@SaveOurChiefs: Interesting news on Tony Sparano interviewing for the OL Coach. He's good at that role, overwhelmed by OC and HC duties.
|
neglecting the oline?
thats why Todd Herremans was signed for 17 million and Evan Mathis for 5 years 25 million yeah I just spend 40 million to neglect the oline, too. |

They like to try to build lines that dominate physically. Asomoah and Hudson do not fit that mold at present. |
Quote:
I'm not going to go full homer and say Albert needs to slide to guard but Jason Peters was a BIG LT for Andy and Jake Long was a 100 ft tall for Tony. I do think that Hudson is WAY too small for Center under this new regime, and maybe might not even have a spot. To think some of these olineman like Allen, Hudson, etc will be given their spots back is something to think again about. Especially if they start signing/drafting oline, they will come in immediately and compete. |
Quote:
I don't think Hudson does. |
I'd rather move Hudson back to LG and draft an actual C.
|
Ex-Jets OC Tony Sparano will reportedly interview for the Chiefs offensive line coach position.
Before his four-year stint as Dolphins coach and failed one-year gig running the Jets offense, Sparano was a highly regarded offensive line coach with the Cowboys from 2003-2007. If he gets the Chiefs job, it will likely come with the assistant head coach title. |
You really think Hudson is small? They don't make centers much bigger than this.

Isnt the reason Eric Winston was cut was because hes a one trick pony at zone blocking (and he couldnt pass a physical) but, I am pretty sure he is awful at man blocking. that is if they were to change the blocking scheme, again. |
I kinda hope we stay ZBS, especially with Jamal.

It's looking like they should have kept him, cause the right side of their line has been ass this year. |

Our WR Coach has that title |

I would bet he is bigger than that.
The guy looks a big center to me. |
Aren't most centers usually around that size?

I was told Chung Thursday night, but he still might be an assistant oline coach. Sparano is a great line coach. Just excellent. However, he wouldn't be given an assistant HC title. That's already David Culley, the WR coach. |
Chiefs had everything worked out with Warhop, as evidenced by Doug Pederson mentioning him and Childress on the staff during his conference call on Friday.
Shocker that Norv is keeping him. |

Hudson is way too small to play guard under Reid
Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis were ****ing HUGE guards for Reid. both could slide to RT in a pinch |
Hudson's right at 300 lbs. Seems like he'd be big enough to play C.

i'm fine with sparano as OL coach...probably his true level in the nfl |
Kelce weighs 295, a wee bit lighter than Hudson.
|
I don't understand the hard on so many of you have for moving Hudson to G.
He was drafted as a center. We have invested a 2nd round pick in Jeff Allen and a 3rd round pick in Jon Asamoah to play guard. Now you guys want relegate a 2nd round pick to the bench because he played guard in college? |
Quote:
Looks a lot bigger than 295. |
well Jeff Allen is ****ing terrible
so yes no Lilja so someone with actual talent is going to have to replace that hole on the o-line at either guard or center we will get murdered with Jeff Allen - Hudson - Asomoah as the interior. And Andy Reid wont stand for that |

Quote:
He was drafted as a center because of the past regime. Allen didn't play well, at all, last year. Handing him a starting job is stupid. |
The Chiefs were ****ing terrible, and he was a rookie.
He was rushed into service and it showed. |
Quote:
|
so we have a college tackle at guard and a college guard at center
do you see how stupid Scooter was. Andy will right this ship. |

He'd be a hell of a hire and a very experienced set of eyes. |

One thing about Allen and Hudson is they are still young. Allen was a rookie this year, playing a new position (which was stupid in the first place).
|
some guys are built for the position change and some arent. all part of that evaluation process. they will evaluate it and i will not be surprised if they draft an o-lineman in the 2nd or 3rd round BPA at guard, center or tackle. This place will explode and I will laugh, but the fact is Andy loves drafting in the trenches and there is no tip toeing around that. The guy drafted a 29 year old Canadian Rugby Fireman weirdo bozo guy turned offensive lineman for the sake of thinking he was some hidden gem guard IN THE FIRST ROUND. Think about that for a minute.
|
my only complaints about Hudson playing C is that he is short armed and he won't get bigger than 300 (plus change, perhaps).
As a OG I'd say no, that's not a good plan for Hudson. Too compact, not real mobile either. I'd expect Reid to find interior linemen and roll with the Tackles currently on the roster this first season. |

HC to OL in such a short time
falling like a rock |
I hope we give up our 1st and get Tebow.
With Tony as our OL coach, I see great Wildcasts with Tebow and #22. |
The other concerning thing is that Sparano and Reid have different blocking schemes.
Sparano likes a power running scheme and Reid is more zone blocking. |
Well, we haven't signed him yet, so we shall see.
|
Quote:
Dorsey's a ZBS guy. Sparano's a power blocking guy. Reid was a power blocking guy under Castillo, a ZBS under Childress. |
Quote:
If so, Sparano is a weird fit. |
Reid was definitely a power blocking guy this most recent season.
Not saying he wont change based on the current roster, but the Eagles had a big o-line prior to injuries |
Would prefer we stay with the ZBS scheme as thats what we are more equipped to do.
|
Quote:
|
He hired a DC based on the talent fit and scheme he's not used to running, or so it seems. I'd think we'd stick with the ZBS.
|

Hudsons fundamentals are great, which allows him to make up for being undersized.
|
ah, hell no! I don't want that idiot anywhere near my team.
|
I would not mind it if we moved Hudson back to guard and draft (if he is available) that center from Alabama with our 2nd. The guy played 3 positions on the O-Line in college and excelled at all of them. He would be a huge asset on this line. I doubt he will be there when we pick again, but that would be nice.

They have invested enough draft picks on ol.
|
Quote:
EVERY ****ING SCOUT agreed that Hudson was the best center prospect in the 2011 draft. He broke his leg - BFD. He'll be fine in 2013. Furthermore, it's just ****ing dumb, unless your team is absolutely LOADED at every position, to spend the #34 overall selection on a center. |
I'd agree with that. But that's also the catch to turning the whole organization over. Reid and Dorsey aren't going to care how many picks the Chiefs have on the line over the years.
|
Quote:
That was the problem with Pioli. He came in here and said it's my way or the highway. It doesn't have to be that way. Look at whats here and tweek your scheme to fit what ttalent you have and build on it. No need to spend more time and picks when not needed. |
