Thank you sweet Jeebus.

No biggie. Not Reid's first rodeo, so no worries.

Crush 01-14-2013 06:56 PM

It's a ****ing breath of fresh air. Developing a scheme that fits around your players. Is that even allowed?

Mr. Flopnuts 01-14-2013 06:56 PM

Great news all around AFAIC.

ShowtimeSBMVP 01-14-2013 06:58 PM

Hope it's the 1 gap 3-4

DeezNutz 01-14-2013 06:59 PM

We'll have a more aggressive, attacking 34. And it's also a positive statement about how Reid evaluates the overall talent on the roster.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-14-2013 06:59 PM

Smart man.

ChiefMojo 01-14-2013 07:00 PM

Basically Pederson does most of the grunt work in game planning for Reid but in the end Reid will call the plays as many expected.

dirk digler 01-14-2013 07:00 PM

I wonder why he isn't letting his hot up and coming OC call the plays?

Powertrip! He must be stopped!

ChiefMojo 01-14-2013 07:02 PM

Basically imo grooming him slowly. Promote from QB coach to OC but only half way in duties. Maybe in time Reid will turn things over to Pederson when he proves to be ready with the full deal. If we do indeed have Childress around, he will be there to help groom and gameplan as well.

I think in year 2 Doug will call the plays.

dirk digler 01-14-2013 07:06 PM

I would rather him cut his teeth calling plays next year when we are probably just average then learning when we are ready to be good.

Why do head coaches keep doing this....

ChiefMojo 01-14-2013 07:23 PM

Old habits are hard to kill. Reid has been around the block for quite awhile, he just gets use to being in control.

I have no problem with this as long as he takes us to the big Dance

If I remember right, he did that in Philly while Childress was the "OC"

Then Childress came to Minnesota and did not do well.

Sounds like we want Reid to call plays.

That's cool. Reid knows what he's doing. He ain't no Haley. He's been around the block...Hope his DC can handle the 3-4 if that's not what he's used to.

Bump 01-14-2013 09:09 PM

so our new DC knows 3-4 shit right?

I'm glad he's willing to use the roster to it's strengths. We all know we have mad talent on D.

Jimmya 01-14-2013 09:16 PM

I'm curious to see if anyone knows how many teams have won the superbowl or college championship with the head coach calling the offense?

ChiefMojo 01-14-2013 09:24 PM

Isn't bull sh*t speculation what your best at Dane?

WhiteWhale 01-14-2013 09:26 PM

I kinda figured Andy would call the plays, and I thought our DC hire made it obvious our intentions to stick with the 34 defense.

CaliforniaChief 01-14-2013 09:32 PM

I'm glad we're staying with the 3-4. It gives Dorsey just a little less work in building the defense than he otherwise would have had.

Mother****erJones 01-14-2013 09:58 PM

He ran Romeo's version under the 3-4 under Mangini in NY. They had a mediocre defense. when Rex Ryan took over, he kept Sutton on as LB coach but switched to his blitzing, attacking style of 3-4.

They were the number 1 defense in the NFL.

Today Reid specifically said that Sutton would be bringing the Ryan, blitzing 3-4. He even noted how that defense blitzes everyone "including the hot dog vendors."

The days of Romeo's outdated system are over. Get used to some mother****ing blitzes, y'all.

ROFL all the folks on this site claiming they were going to 43 defense.

Make no mistake Reid will be in charge of everything like he was in Philly. All other coaches will do his bidding or get canned.

Philly had a sick offense that year. I think Reid is one of the most innovative pass-first offensive minds in the league. They fell off lately because of Vick.

You can't blitz effectively if your cornerbacks and safeties are ****ing shit.

Outside of Berry and Flowers, they're shit.

Their O sucked this year, but it wasn't Reid's fault. The O line was depleted with injuries and Vick is worse than Matt C.

I didn't see enough of Vick this year, but I know he held back their offense. And Reid wasn't calling the plays.

TLMRedden 01-14-2013 10:55 PM

Not another year with Matt Cassel!!! Well Reid did make it work with the likes of A J Feely running Philly's O. Maybe he can make something out of MC.

That was actually a weakness of Reid. He often tried to force players into a scheme that didn't fit. This news is surprising and good news for Chiefs fans, as maybe Reid is changing a bit. Trying to fix his flaws.

I agree, but Reid has done more with less. Maybe he will take the lumps while Geno or Barkley learn the offense. A one year stop gap

ChiefPassesALot 01-14-2013 11:11 PM

Reid calling the plays was very common in Philadelphia. It wasn't until recently that he gave it up to Marty M.

His game management and ability to adjust on the fly are Reid's Weaknesses. He very stubborn in his way.

Andy loves O-line guys. He has a history of high Offensive and defensive line picks.

Machine 01-14-2013 11:22 PM

I think Reid will turn Matt Cassel around. Remember, he originally was Brett Farves QB coach in Green Bay before going to Philly. I wouldn't be suprised if he uses him for at least, I don't know, like 14 years.

ChiefPassesALot 01-14-2013 11:24 PM

Guys, Cassel would be fine with Reid. Hell, he'd make Quinn good. He succeeded with AJ Feeley and Koy Detmer, He made Kolb look good.

ChiefSuspect 01-14-2013 11:25 PM

He's a QB guru. I have faith in him to make the right call. If he likes what he sees in Casshole, I may just change my opinion of him.
