ok I'm taking Alex Smith. At least Alex Smith has mobility. Palmer is a statue with an overrated arm at this point and spotty, at best, accuracy.

I think Carson Palmer is awful, and I said that before the Raiders ever traded for him.

Palmer is older and will be gone sooner.

if Palmer doesn't restructure I'd be amazed if he wasn't cut this year...

at this point I'm fully assuming the Raiders take Geno at #3 and cut Palmer

he costs a lot, is a damn statue, and couldn't win in the NFL no matter where he went

if he was the starter in San Fran on the same team Alex Smith went 6-2 on he'd still be a loser

dude can't play QB in the NFL anymore...not accurate enough, not mobile at all, and doesn't make good decisions with the football

if you want to argue that Carson Palmer is better than Alex Smith than feel free...

neither of them are going to win anything of any importance especially with Peyton Manning in the division

and in fact, I envy the Raiders because at least they are smart enough to get rid of that brokedick...I'll be shocked if he starts another game with Oakland.

4018 PASSING YARDS in 14 games

We would love to have him another year but not for 13 million

Our team is so ****ing awful we have to compare Smith, Cassel and Palmer to try an better this god awful situation.

Smith

Hootie 02-28-2013 02:00 AM

his QBR was 44.7

he was ****ing awful

his stats LITERALLY all came in garbage time...

an ELITE QB doesn't land you the #3 pick in the NFL Draft.

I know you're not the most intelligent guy in the world, but here are the QB's for the first 13 teams picking in the draft this year:

Matt Cassel
Blaine Gabbert
Carson Palmer
Michael Vick
Matt Stafford
Brandon Weeden
John Skelton
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Mark Sanchez
Jake Locker
Philip Rivers
Ryan Tannehill
Josh Freeman

7 of the 10 of those QB's play in the AFC (the clearly inferior conference)...so in a clearly inferior conference in the most inferior division in football Carson Palmer managed to land the Raiders the #3 overall pick.

If that isn't damning enough evidence for you I don't know what is...Carson Palmer is literally in the bottom 2/3 of starting NFL QB's and that's probably being generous.

I'm not bashing him for being on Oakland...that literally doesn't phase me. If named "Peyton's Princess" and he plays in Denver, a team I hate just as much as Oakland...

I respect good QB play, always have...Carson Palmer is awful. He just is.

Hootie 02-28-2013 02:02 AM

if you're an elite QB, your team doesn't end up drafting 3rd overall when you were healthy all year...

that is just not possible...

he's not even league average

I'd take Alex Smith over Carson Palmer 10 times out of 10.

Carson Palmer is just a name...how he is still a name baffles me. He literally had 2 good years...and as soon as he blew out his knee he was DONE.

Who had a 44.7 QBR ? Carson had an 85.3 last year and the league average is 85.6

mnchiefsguy 02-28-2013 02:15 AM

I would say neither....but if you force me to pick, I would say Smith. Palmer cost the Fade a 1st and a 2nd rounder, and Smith is only going to cost 2 2nd's. Plus, Palmer is a bigger cap hit.

Chiefs=Champions 02-28-2013 02:17 AM

GENO.

Having said that A smith over a first and second for Palmer any day.

Namor40 02-28-2013 02:20 AM

Smith if you want touchdowns for your team, Palmer if you want touchdowns for the other team.

Right now I take Smith over any QB in the AFC West not named Manning. Rivers is garbage, he turns the ball over like he gets paid for it, Palmer is even worse, he turns the ball over a bunch and then throws for a lot of yards in garbage time when his team is already out of it.

Im not sure what his problems are...but his stats from last year look decent. 61% passer.....22 TDs, 14 INTS, over 4000 yards.

Smith

Mr. Laz 02-28-2013 08:58 AM

Palmer > Smith

but Smith is younger, so there is that

RyFo18 02-28-2013 09:08 AM

I'm not sure how to answer this. I need a gun to my head to really put the pressure on me.

Alex Smith 4Ever 02-28-2013 09:17 AM

Alex Smith is 5 years younger and the better player. He had a 104 QB rating this year

Hootie 02-28-2013 09:41 AM

threads like these make me realize most of you don't watch any football outside of Chiefs football...

I'm not even talking about stats in this case. Even in this case, stats back up Alex Smith...

but the fact someone was like 'bro he had 4000 yards and 22 TD's last year' as a point that Palmer is still pretty good makes me lolololol

if he was elite, the Raiders wouldn't be picking 3rd. Didn't we learn that last year with Cassel at the helm? The Raiders played in an awful conference and in awful division and couldn't win against an awful schedule. Why? Their QB was awful.

And pertaining to his stats last year...they were literally garbage time variety. If you played fantasy football, you would know this...

Palmer would be awful, awful, awful for 3 quarters...Raiders would get down to out of reach...and then he'd throw for 130+ yards and a TD or 2. It never failed.

Go look at his quarter splits...

This guy is terrible. He's almost Cassel bad. That's not an exaggeration.

Matt Cassel
Blaine Gabbert
Carson Palmer
Michael Vick
Matt Stafford
Brandon Weeden
John Skelton
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Mark Sanchez
Jake Locker

There is a reason why the teams those guys QB'd have the first 10 picks...

They are all either young, or terrible.

Hootie 02-28-2013 09:42 AM

and notice how 7 of those 10 are in the AFC...the clearly INFERIOR conference...

they are the worst of the worst...

Palmer had to be in the bottom 5 starting QB's this year right with Cassel, Sanchez, etc...

He was THAT bad.

Mr. Laz 02-28-2013 09:45 AM

Harbaugh protected Smith in every game. The offensive scheme and play calling was designed to protect the QB ... just like Cassel.

Matt Stafford doesn't really fit in with the list though. He's actually a pretty solid football player. Having megatron helps, and that silly side arm stuff gets on my nerves, but all and all I'd say he's in the top half of the league.

That being said, anybody who watches a few of alex's games, and a few of palmers can tell the difference. Palmer simply fails the eyeball test as a functional football player. Alex is not spectacular, but he is certainly functional. How many more games could the chiefs had won last year if they had 9 or 10 turnovers from the QB instead of like 30. I'm sure that's gotta be worth at least a couple of W's.

I wouldn't worry about the draft picks with Andy Reid as your head coach. He should get back a couple of second rounders for a back up in no time.

Manning, Rivers, Smith and Palmer. I can see why this is an important issue for Raider fans. They don't want to have to admit to having the worst QB, in the weakest division, of the Quarterback-driven NFL.
