BlackBob 2012. All the tool you need and more.

Gerber used to make one you could open with one hand. That is really handy in some situations. I don't know if they make them like that anymore, but the tool was good quality and I'd look at them first if I was going to get another one.

I freaking hate multitools. Dirt, UAN, chemicals all ****ing destroy the folding mechanisms and the tools are almost never good enough to do what I need them to do.
Slipjoint pliers and a pocket knife is all I carry. If I need anything else I'll probably need more than a pocket tool. I've got basic tools in about every vehicle, so they're typically close anyway. |

Surge for 69 free shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-830...atherman+surge I have a Surge in our bugout bags, but I wouldn't use them to do everyday jobs. They can do a multitude of things OK, but nothing real well. |

This is what I have. |
I have owned 2 gerber multi tools.
They worked but could have been better This one jammed up sometimes http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-S...Plier-1471.htm This one was better and had the one hand open with wrist flick http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-D...Plier-1470.htm I broke the file off on the second one using it as an improvised pry bar Second one was best of the two. I've never owned a leather man but have always heard them highly regarded by those who owned them Bonus, this tool is the shit tho http://www.gerber-tools.com/Gerber-G...-31-001054.php |

Are you going to use it for biking? If so, you'll need some allen wrenches. I've had a Topeak Alien for years, and it works great.

Gerber or Leatherman get my vote.
I have bought cheaper to get me through the week and they were always shit. Dull blades, heavy, weak. |

Ended up going with the Leatherman Wave.
I also bought a bunch of other shit to store in my truck. It has built in toolboxes below the back seats, but there's not enough room. Looking for quality back seat storage if anyone has recommendations for that too. Otherwise, good night. |
Buck, things to keep in your truck under those seats ( I have the same truck):
Multi tool Tow rope First aid kit A couple power bars Ratchet set Zip ties Gloves |
Forgot duct tape. Gotta have that too. With all this, you are pretty prepared for minor auto inconveniences

Multi Tool Pro LED Maglite 12 D Batteries S&W Folding Knife that also has a seat belt cutter and window breaker Bungee Cords Nylon Rope (just for tying stuff down in the bed if need be, or general purpose) A couple caribiners (sp?) I also have the 4 adjustable tie-down things in there (since I don't want people to steal them) and the tools the car came with. I had duct tape in the cart but I took it out before checking out because I can get it cheaper at Walmart or something. I'm going to Harbor Freight tomorrow to buy some ratchetable tie-downs and a torque wrench. Still need to work on a first-aid kit and storage. |
I keep my bungees in the latch able box in the side of the bed. I've never had any stolen. The tacomas kick ass. I just went and looked in mine. I also have a hunting knife, wool hat, and led head lamp that fits on a baseball cap ( no baseball cap tho, will have to look into this).
I've "saved" lots of people at our tailgates with the first aid kit, duct tape, and zip ties. U never know. |

I forgot about those storage boxes in the bed of the truck. I'll probably put the bungees in there since they are cheap if I have to replace them. |
U can pretty much find bungees on the side of the road. Yeah, I'm that guy that pulls over in the lane and picks them up. I have lots of them
|
Yep...cheap ass.
Thanks for the info...I'm going to bed. |

We do have a generator that the kill switch is bad on so there is a grounded wire that you touch to the spark plug to kill the ignition. Of course the insulation is all cracked and there is about a 75% chance it's going to bite you so I find new and creative ways to kill the spark if I don't have an insulated screwdriver. Quote:
as far as shit you need, buy the following: a receiver hitch and 2" ball and stow that under your seat. A good sturdy pair of gloves. A can of penetrating oil A good pair of small channel lock pliers. At least a Phillips and flat screwdriver. Metric wrench set Crescent wrench. 1 lb ball peen hammer Ratchet straps Tow rope Jumper cables (good ones) Portable 12v air compressor (can be cheap) There is a magnitude of other hand tools you should buy but I wouldn't outfit. Pickup with any less. |

Leatherman Wave, although their quality is starting to slip recently and I am considering finding another option.

It's a bitch to carry around, but it solves all life's problems. |

The last one I bought was the Charge (titanium)(same idea as the wave), so far in 6 months I have had the large common screwdriver break, the small micro screwdriver break, the finer side of the file wear off, the phillips bit strip out, the drywall saw bent, and the "unbreakable" blade break. Not very impressed this time around. Posted via Mobile Device |

Why would someone use a multi tool for 5-6 hours everyday?

Not an office worker here. I work with tools all day. A lot of the times it's faster to grab the leatherman off my belt than to grab another (albeit probably more effective) tool out of my toolbox. Posted via Mobile Device |

I'm a big "use the right tool for the job" guy. Someone bought me a leatherman a couple years ago and it's still in my drawerin the box. Posted via Mobile Device |

However most of the time I need tools I'm not around the shop or even a decent toolbox, so I still spend a lot of my time trying to make something work. |

I wear my Leatherman Wave daily. Use it at work a lot. Electric Lineman. There is always the right tool back at the truck, but if it is a quick job the Leatherman can save you a trip. Be lost without it. I have had mine for at least ten years. I liked it so much I bought 2 more and have them in the box. Did that in case they quit making them or got cheap. Hear maybe the got cheap. One selling point is the blades are on the outside of the tool. You do not need to open it up to whip out your knife blades.
