What if Clark had given Pioli another year?

What if Clark had given Pioli one more year to get things right?

Crennel would have been fired, but we could have expected some other lackey to be installed as puppet/coach.

We'd have seen Albert and Bowe both walk for nothing, like Carr did.

I think there's a possibility we'd be going back into the season with Cassel again, but in order to save his job and attempt to create the illusion the team was moving forward, I am thinking Pioli might well have drafted Geno Smith.

Would it have been worth it to see the franchise cratered for another year?

You heard Pioli. These are the worst QBs in the history of mankind. He wouldn't have drafted one at all. He probably would have signed Matt Moore to replace Brady Quinn. MAYBE he would have drafted Landry Jones later.

Cassel would be the starter.

Dr. Johnny Fever 03-04-2013 08:38 PM

My facebook rant was better than Pioli and this thread. No judgement.

prhom 03-04-2013 08:38 PM

Pioli would tag Bowe, let Albert go, draft an LT, and swap firsts with the niners for Alex Smith. No way he drafts Geno.

HotCarl 03-04-2013 08:44 PM

As horrible as Pioli was, I think he would be at the point of a desperation move if he'd come back and Geno Smith would have been it. He can draft him, say he's not quite ready, play Cassel or Quinn or whatever schmuck the Patriots cast off. Or maybe he plays him, hoping he will RG3 into saving his job.

There's about 500% more chance that Pioli would have drafted Geno than Reid.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-04-2013 08:47 PM

Clark wouldn't have taken Pioli's power away and Romeo wouldn't of had enough rope to hang himself with. Just more "I don't know"s pressers. Romeo retires or stays. He would have traded the farm for Mallett. With Cassel to hold his hand. Stanzi would of had a full pre-season game. The stadium would be empty.

chefsos 03-04-2013 08:49 PM

Well, this year's banners would have been skirting the edges of profanity and legality, for one thing.

KCwolf 03-04-2013 08:51 PM

We would've drafted a female Kicker 1.1

This is pure speculation on your part, and it's very ill-informed. Apparently you don't watch Scott ***** on the NFL Network.

He would not have drafted a quarterback.

And even if he would have, what's the point of this thread anyway? Do you wish Scott ***** were still the GM?

Thread fail.

RyFo18 03-04-2013 08:53 PM

I think we would have seen similar moves that we saw today. ***** was good at retaining talent.

Routt may still be a CHief. If Pioli wasn't neutered.

Chiefspants 03-04-2013 08:55 PM

Uh, Pioli admitted he would have taken joeakakakakeal on the NFL network (and also said Geno wasn't "top-pick" material)

Why would we believe anything that lying sack of Pioli says?

He's soberly judging the talent when he's on TV - or so he would have us believe. He's not trying to save his job. He's not trying to sell a ticket or two to a game this year. He's just up there saying what he thinks will make him look smarter.

He would have been in a make or break year, so doing something high risk that gives him an out (rookie QB) after the season would make more sense.

False. Brandon Carr. Pioli would have tagged Bowe, let Albert walk, and have drafted golden boy Luke.

FloridaMan88 03-04-2013 08:57 PM

HotCarl needs to jump into an AIDS tree inferno.

Direckshun 03-04-2013 08:58 PM

Basically, we'd tag Bowe again, likely lose Albert, start Cassel again and draft Joeckel.

It's not a matter of believing *****. It's a matter of looking at what he's done his entire career. He has NEVER drafted a quarterback in the first round. He makes his living thinking he's some kind of genius who can find a quarterback in the later rounds.

There's no reason for anyone to think he would have drafted Geno Smith. You're on your own on this, and there's nothing to back up up your wild speculation.

Again, what's the point of this thread?

Wow, he let one big name FA go in 4 years? I guess we all forgot that he re-signed Johnson, Charles, Flowers, and Hali to team friendly contracts.

FTR, Carr was not worth the contract he got IMO. Solid corner, not a world beater.

They didn't even TALK to Bowe last year about a contract. They would have tagged Albert and let Bowe walk, and drafted Geno.

Go to hell. He would have never drafted Geno. It's time get behind this team. The new staff has done more good than bad. This team is not old and built to win now, that is the reason for Alex and he may play like he did in 2012 or not, who the hell knows, but we are keeping Bowe and Albert at least. No doubt we will spend some cash on a WR and CB thus putting us back in Div contention. Dustin will no longer be our MVP. After matt is cut we can have a street parade. Things are looking up.

RyFo18 03-04-2013 09:03 PM

Not to mention, there is no way these deals get done today if Pioli didn't do a great job of maintaining top talent for cheap and having this team in a good position with respect to the salary cap.

I get it we all want to beat Pioli up cause this team blew kong dong last year, but there were a few bright spots.

Compared to the Routt fiasco, Carr was most certainly worth the contract he got.

He would have signed Colquitt, tagged Bowe & let Albert walk. He would then have drafted Joeckel. We'd still have the 34th pick & Matt Cassel.

This. Pioli showed all his cards in KC. You can't win playing with empty hands.

Strongside 03-05-2013 08:01 AM

Andy Reid would be coaching the Chargers, John Dorsey would still be in GB, Bowe and Albert would both walk, We'd draft Joeckel, sign a few no-names off of the street, Jason Campbell would be our SQB in 2013, and I would no longer be a fan of this team.

Here's what would have happened;

- Crenell fired
- Eric Mangini or Josh McDaniels hired
- Minor, if any changes, to the coaching staff
- 1.1 pick is traded to NE for a pittance in return but ***** would demand that NE give up Mallet in the trade.
- Cassel retained under new contract, Mallet as the starter

I think this happens at 1.1 but I think he would have taken Nassib at 2.2 if he was still there. Scott was going on and on on NFLN about Nassib's great leadership. Albert would definitely be gone and probably Bowe, too, unless he was tagged for one more year.

He wouldn't have drafted Luke that would have been too obvious. He liked to take people that weren't rated as highly so he could show everyone that they are all wrong and he is smarter.

Doubtful since that would have been a good play at both.
