Chiefs in contact with Sean Smith
Chiefs apparently in contact with Sean*Smith
Posted by Darin Gantt on March 9, 2013, 12:44 AM EST Despite reaching a deal with cornerback Dunta Robinson late Friday, the Chiefs apparently are still in the market for more secondary help, reaching out to Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith early Saturday. According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Chiefs “have shown an interest in CB Sean Smith early on in the contact period.” Translated, they were on the phone a half hour ago, negotiating but not agreeing or anything. Of course, long before the days of legal tampering, Smith was trying to cram the toothpaste back in the tube at the suggestion of old-fashioned tampering. Adding Smith would legitimize a secondary that needs the help opposite Brandon Flowers. Depending on the money in the Robinson deal, the Chiefs could easily justify using him as a nickel corner or even at safety if they landed Smith. Robinson’s a good tackler, and even if he’s not the same cover player he was, he adds value. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...th-sean-smith/ |
I like the idea of arenas being our fourth corner.

Pass happy league..Secondary depth is not a bad thing...

Man this offseason has been exciting - I just wish one of these signings would be a RT to ease my mind about taking a OT at #1....

Wow, a nickelback? Claynus told that wasn't possible with Smith.
 |

He doesn't fit there at all. Regardless of what dumbass media members say. |

It's talking about Robinson. |

They're not talking about Smith, dumbass. They're talking about Robinson, since he's getting the lesser contract, and hence him playing nickel or FS would be "justified." Christ, you're dumb. |

Get back to us when you get ANYTHING right. Claynus. |
Dane, the only sensible thing for you to say right now is:
"Oops. I read that wrong. I guess Sean Smith isn't a nickel cornerback." |

But as we all know, Mr. 200,000 posts, is that you won't. |

It's OK to be wrong, Dane. |

I should be used to it after reading 200,000 Claynus posts. My bad. |

Bill Williamson, ladies and gentlemen. |
Sean Smith would be our #2 corner.
Robinson would be #3 corner if not the starting FS. Arenas would be the nickel corner and the #3 or #4 depending on Robinsons position. |
Can Arenas play safety?

Cleaning up Pioli's mess is a bitch. Chris Gamble to replace Carr? Rather have Gamble the S. Smith. Either would be a huge upgrade tho
|
What role does DeQuan Menzie play in the secondary this year, backup safety or corner? I thought he had the skills to be a versatile player in the secondary when he was drafted.

profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/09/chiefs-no-longer-interested-in-sean-smith Getty Images With the league’s heavy-handed, contradictory memo scaring teams silent overnight, there’s still no barrier on making it known that a team isn’t interested in a given player. The Chiefs, after signing cornerback Dunta Robinson, no longer have interest in Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith, per a league source. Robinson is believed to be getting starter money from the Chiefs. With Brandon Flower doing the same, paying Smith top-of-market money no longer makes sense. Kansas City’s interest in Smith was one of the few nuggets of information that emerged after the legal non-tampering tampering period opened at midnight. If, of course, Smith overplays his hand and doesn’t do a deal before the market softens, the Chiefs potentially could become interested again — at a lower rate. |

Sean Smith gave up more combined 1st downs and Touchdowns than ANY CB in the NFL last year. |

Although, he didn't look horrible at TC and during the pre season lined up at LCB. Still wouldn't want him playing there though. |
Wouldn't get too attached to any Scooter draft pick at this point

Sean Smiths agent came out after that report and said dont believe the rumors it's all dead.
|
We're safe.
@JasonColeYahoo Leading candidates for CB Sean Smith, as if this moment, appear to be Tampa Bay, Arizona and Pats. But things are fluid. |
