The Regret Thread
Time for a Regret threat.
Things you regret not having done, decisions you've made, or things you've not taken advantage off. Doesn't have to be a regret that has put you into a clinical depression with a passion for eating chalk etc. Just little things. Mine that I can think of: Not going to see B.B. King in Hanford CA when stationed 10 miles away back in probably 2000. Ticket was $10 Not Taking Guitar lessons from Day one; instead of learning on my own and muscling through stuff the last 20 years. Not buying stock from my company's employee purchasing program thing when stocks were $1.24; and 3 years later topped out at $18. and after Sprint bout us, all stock options could be exercised immediately. Getting rid of my Jeep Wrangler. |
First in with regret rooting for the Chiefs.

If I'm being honest, I don't have much but regrets. Every major decision I've made in my life has been a bad one. I picked the wrong college, picked the wrong major, picked the wrong girl, gave up on a masters degree when I should have followed through (even if it was the wrong major), went too many years without a job, have been stuck in a bad job for too many years, and because of that I have no savings, no retirement, and no real prospects that anything will ever improve, because of all the bad decisions that led me to the point that I am now. And that's without even considering ancillary issues like having no real world friends and never having a family (which I think is also good in many ways). So lots of regrets.
But worst of all....I'm a Chiefs fan. |
I regret going to college first and foremost. It's led to the point where I'm literally sitting an internship right now for a resume builder for a career that will only pay me $20k for the first ten years of my professional career -assuming I get hired on salary.
Beyond that I regret being a ****up in sixth grade where I went from an All-A "gifted" student to a lazy, socially awkward ****hole that persisted more or less in some facet all through high school. I regret giving in and quitting football before my sophomore year. I regret not even trying for JV basketball my freshman year. I regret not taking advantage of the fact I lived on a golf course and not practicing because if I were only 2/5ths better than what I was in HS, I could've probably gone to state 2-3 seasons and not played like a ****ing Jerry's Kid when I got there. Oh yeah. Being a Chiefs fan. That's a pretty huge regret too. |

As bad as you think it may have turned out(regret). It may just have been the best outcome. Broke with a cheating girlfriend is better than one legged and jailed in Turkey.

Other than that, my biggest regret would probably be my lack of travel. I've lived in several states in America, but many of them I was a kid so I never truly got to experience what they had to offer. As it stands now, I've never been to NYC, Chicago, LA, Miami, on a cruise.. Shit, I've never even left the country! |

As far as money goes, I'm unfortunately in one of the worst down periods I've ever had with my job. I haven't had a major project in 6 months so right now I'm running on the fumes of fumes. I'm hoping things take a turn upward in the next couple of weeks, with what's supposed to be the beginning of my busy season. But it's been disturbingly quiet as far as client communication. Reality is I may be facing a career change this summer. And a move, because I'd just gone into a more expensive apartment in September. But I'm not the kind of guy who gets bent out of shape about this kind of stuff. I'll be fine. Always am. |

Chicago will freeze your balls off in the winter. Otherwise, you can have a lot of fun there. LA is a hell hole. Avoid. Miami: Last American out please turn out the lights. Cruise Ship: Floating porta potty. Rest of the World: Wished they were the USA. You're not missing much, my friend. |
1) Getting involved in drugs back in the day.
2) Getting educated about the QB position at Chiefs Planet. 3) tying my football fandom to the most inept and irrelevant franchise in the AFC. That's about it. Posted via Mobile Device |
1) Not learning Spanish in high school and undergrad.
2) Not doing the MA history joint degree. Although, this could have been a regret in itself. So, it's not too much of a regret. I have a lot of other smaller regrets, too. |
Not staying in the army for 15-20 years, getting out with a pension and still being plenty young enough to start a second career.
Not staying in college and using up all of the GI Bill i paid for. |
I am a glass half full kinda guy.
So lets drink up. Oh, and regret drinking so much. |
1. Getting into drugs.
2. Dropping out of college when I was only 1 semester in. 3. Didn't get my degree while I was in the Air Force and I could have used TA. 4. Not getting serious about my weight until now (32). |

Sometimes (way too often) I wish I'd never let myself get like this in my 20s. And there's no little envy for the people that didn't. There's a part of me that acknowledges that I'll probably never have a 2 pack, much less a 6, and I'm maybe a little jealous of the people who always have and still do, and how much easier it must be for them. Not that they didn't and don't work hard for it; that's not what I'm saying... |

I honestly don't have much desire to go to Chicago, other than to say I did it. My mother lives in Ohio so I've spent a lot of time in the Midwest. Gotta say I'm not a fan. I was born on an old military base in Monterey, California but my dad was stationed in Kansas when I was 1 so I don't remember it. Truthfully, I don't need to go to LA but somewhere in So Cal would be nice. It seems to be the only place in the contiguous US that can rival Florida's weather. Ya gotta go on a cruise, man! I've heard mixed reviews about them. I hear you get bored being couped up and the tipping/alcohol prices can be a bit ridiculous. I still have to experience for myself though. I have a friend that shares an August birthday with me who is talking about taking a cruise around that time. It'll be around our birthdays and my graduation so it could be a nice gift to myself. Only problem is, I hear cruises around September and October can get a bit bumpy and even the piratiest of pirates would get seasick... As far as travelling outside of America, I really just want to experience different culture. I work with 4 Brazilians (from Brazil) and the stories they tell me about their country just make it sound so awesome. My boss is going back in 2014 for the World Cup and told me to start saving up now to go. My main issue with travelling, though, is definitely the language factor. I can understand Spanish pretty well but have a lot of trouble speaking it. Outside of that and English, I know nothing. |

Oooh, also, I regret putting so much into my first job.
My first job was at a small pizza chain when I was 17. I didn't care much at the time because I just wanted cash to buy a car, but I ended up staying there for 3 years, working my way up to management. Like I said though, it was just a small chain. There were around 3 stores when I first got hired, and they kind of exploded into 12 or so within a year. Problem is, that was right around the recession and things went downhill for the company shortly thereafter. I ended up getting out shortly before the last store closed its doors and always wish I had picked a legitimate company to invest so much time in. Even if it was a more established restaurant, who knows where I'd be now? I recently hung out with an old friend I had from working at a TGI Fridays back in the day. He's got the job there as a busser/food runner back when he was 18. Worked his way up and served for 6 years and they just gave him the bump to management. He's making $50,000 now only a year in and says he could get close to $70 this time next year with bonuses. At any rate, I made a lot of money at my job and DEFINITELY enjoyed my time there. I last worked there over 3 years ago and still maintain regular contact with several of my coworkers. So... All's well that ends well, I guess. |
Damn, this feels kind of good. LMAO
On a much lighter note, I wish I had done more leg workouts when I first started lifting. I have a minor case of chicken legs now and its tough trying to even out proportions between my upper and lower body. |
I passed up a football scholarship to go to the same college as my girlfriend.
we broke up less than a year later. :shake: easily the single most stupid thing I've ever done. while it is a regret....at the same time I wouldn't be where I am today and have the family I have today if I'd not made that stupid decision ....life is good, so I wouldn't like...go back and change it if I could, but still....what a frigging dumb ass! LMAO |

Funny thing is....my Grandma ****ing DESPISED him for making that decision. So much so....that she took his entire baseball card collection and burned them while he was gone at basic training. |

I wonder if he regrets that decision? PS - when I was a kid in Michigan I had a buncha baseball cards and one was a Catfish Hunter. wonder where that is now? I believe it'd be worth a bit-o-money. |

looking back, I would have been able to retire from the Navy here in 4 years.
...though there's no way I could've stayed in. But, my sea / shore rotation was 4 / 6. better than a lot of rates. I told them i would've stayed if I could get duty at the JAC in Molesworth Eng. |
I regret not getting dive certified before I lived in Okinawa for a year.
I regret passing out in my front yard after a chiefs game and having my father in law come "find" me (per my wife's request) I regret peeing in a bottle in the back seat of a friends car when his wife was driving. I regret leaving the Navy after just 6 years. I could be collecting a nice pension starting next year. Actually, truth be told, I guess I don't regret anything. It's all ended up putting me where I am and things are pretty good. |

If you've got a degree, get a job teaching english in South America or Asia. it'll cover your expenses and then some for a year or longer. I can virtually guarantee you'll make friends with the expats there and have a shit ton of stories to tell when you get back. And while most third world countries do wish they were the USA, most of my european friends don't give a flying **** about the US. |
No regrets. Never. Not one.
Whatever you did, that's exactly what you wanted to do at the time. So why regret it? Learn and move forward. |
I regret not getting a blow job from my cute Latina coworker at a Rest Stop. She offered as a "joke", and I took it as just a joke. We hooked up about a year later. She offered to blow me under the desk at work on a Friday at 4:30, but I chickened out. I suck.
