Kansas City Chiefs: Early Winners in Offseaon
Heard this from now almost everyone associated with ESPN and some guy from NFL Network. Cant provide any links because they were all on live TV. So this leads to ask ... "Why are the (experts) all saying we have the best offseaon, but the (fans) think its almost as bad as 2009?"
|
Alex Smith
|
Because the national guys don't expect much from KC, but the local fans, at least the ones at CP, want to actually win something. We aren't much closer to winning anything, but we are marginally better than we were before free agency began.
|
They loved Pioli.
They liked Cassel. They picked us to win the AFC West last year. Do you want me to go on? They know as much as we do at this point. |

WINNING!!!

We were considered one of the early winners in FA in 2009. Deja vu. |
"All this has happened before, and it will happen again."
"And again" "And again" "And again" |

For the Free Agents that were available + our needs going into this offseason = we have done a great job filling holes in free agency.

ChiefsPlanet attracted a lot of people who were fed up with the team over the past few years, and conversation was dominated by the feeling that the team's leadership had had more than enough time to prove themselves.
Now, that feeling has been held over for the new regime, and people aren't willing to give them a chance since we were burned on it last time. In short, ChiefsPlanet is dominated by people who are pissy. |
We've made some very significant moves that I think are worthy of praise.
The real test of our offseason, as always, will be the draft. |
We had Cassel in 2009 so irrelavent. Alex Smith is a player, he'll do some good stuff here. Everyone here is on the brink of cutting themselves if they see one little move by the Chiefs.

Greatest offseason all over again! YAY!!! PBJ

lol, "winning the offseason"
Are you ****ing stupid? |
I would rather win during the season than the off-season.

Hey, don't worry guys. Things are looking up; we won the offseason.

But feel free to willfully misconstrue arguments that are being made. You've got to get through the day somehow. |
Because according to the wolfpack mentality that is CP, alex smith is the 2nd coming of matt cassel, despite that alex smith is FAR better than matt cassell. he's not OUR #1 pick franchise QB, so he must also suck.

Chase Daniel @ChaseDaniel
Pieces are falling into place 4 this @kcchiefs team to reach the top, which is a World Championship. I know we’ll work everyday 4 that goal! |

But, hey, the geniuses on ESPN and NFLN say it is so, so it must be, right? |

Thank you chiefs planet, you have saved me from pulling out 7 hairs. |
Bowe + Colquitt + Albert + Reid + Dorsey + Fasano + Avery = a pretty busy off season. Plus they seem to like the Alex Smith trade and the DeVito signing, which the jury is still out on.
Its been a busy off season with the Chiefs, we will not know how good or bad it is for a while. |

Both a lot of fans and most of the media take their own opinions WAAAY too seriously. We'll see at the end of this season if we've improved significantly or not.
I trusted Pioli and Haley. I was wrong. But I'll trust Dorsey and Reid. No choice I guess, but it's also the smart bet compared to a bunch of vocal fans on a message board. |
I like that this leadership group doesn't hoard every dollar like they get a cut of however far under the cap they are.
I like re-signing Bowe. I like keeping Albert (and still want to see a long-term contract). I like some of the other moves. Fasano is "meh." Alex Grbonossel is beyond 'meh' and casts a negative shadow over EVERYTHING else. |

The Chiefs many have only 1 Lombari, but they have 26 gold stars. YAAAAAAAAYYYYY :clapping hands:

Not much of a tea party has been happening for Smith and Daniel. one can only fuss about something they have control over I think in this case people have to decide, KC fan....yes or no |

Peyton Hillis 1000 yards Baldwin 700 yards 10 touchdowns McCluster 90 touches Stanford Routt will make us forget Brandon Carr all of that went over like a wet fart real quick, but it was a whole spring/summer of that garbage. I will say this time the FAs they signed this offseason pale in comparison and should not be held to the same standard for two reasons A) All of them have consistent production at what they do even if their skillsets are 1 dimensional and their ceilings are capped. B) All of them are not "acquired by association" meaning this new regime doesnt have an elitist pool of only 25 players they will sign because of coaching connections and stupid trees of craptastic shit coaches like our prior fail of a GM. so the FAs are better, and better in the sense that none of them are good enough to get you 1000 yards at anything or even 4 sacks. So you cant have those type of homeristic projections and tend to have to be realistic about what they will do, and thus you will get realistic results. Dunta Robinson will not be Brandon Carr, and probably cant even beat out Javier Arenas, but he will still contribute, more than Stanford Disroutt ever did, and that alone is an upgrade. |

opinions are like @ssh0les - everyone's got one, and most of them are shitty.
|
media types are hedging their bets
1. 2-win teams generally have a easier time of making a 5-win improvement than a 8-win team 2. Chiefs underachieved last year and have talent, so people assume they will be better with better coaching anyway. Next year when we go 8-8ish the media will pat themselves on the back about their correct praise of the Chiefs offseason moves even though the Chiefs should of gone 8-8 last year. |
When did y'all find out the trade was for another second? And I thought it was conditional. :hmmm:
|
If the over/under on Chiefs wins in 2013 is eight, I'm taking the under. I see no more than five or six wins.

I'd guess 7-9 right now. If the line was 10 wins I'd front a paycheck... |

But I'd put my money on Peterson, Pioli, Dorsey or any NFL GM to make the better choices in putting together a franchise (including all of the required decisions on players, coaches, caps numbers, etc) than the excessively serious fans we have here. This place is a bubble filled with vocal posters driving a circular conversation that's unlinked, IMO, from the actual complexities of decision making that an actual GM has to wade through in figuring out how to be better, not only than you were yesterday, but also better than the other 31 GM's out there building their franchises. |
Alex Smith seems unlikely to meet the esculators in his contract or the trade agreement(?). He has only played two 16 games seasons in 8 years. He might be easily dumped even. : pray: Brandon FLowers is about the only 2nd rounder of note for the CHiefs in years.
|
The offensive scheme is going to be night and day different. We will actually see wide open receivers and screens that work next year.
Reid's offensive mind alone will net 4-6 more wins. |

Now if someone wants to step-up and say the Chiefs are now good enough to win in the playoffs then come talk to me. Otherwise you are just spouting the obvious. Unless coaching makes a huge difference we are now back to the 7-9 to 9-7 zone. |

Chiefs were mentioned briefly on SVP and Russillo..... gist was we overpaid for mid-level talent.
|
Why would we improve? It's not like the players haven't been under a top-notch coaching staff for the last 4 years.
Seriously, with the clowns we have had leading the team, who knows WTF kind of turnaround there will be with existing players? |

That said, that cant be settled this year. |
