The dude is soft and weak. He gets whipped by speed and bull rushers alike. He doesn't play through the whistle. What is there to like about this dude? Am I missing something?

Watch the Florida game, man. Despite the fact that A&M's offense is all about getting the ball out quickly and using roll-outs to keep Manziel out of the pocket, Joeckel struggled mightily. And not just on one or two plays.

Having Alex Smith and Luke Joeckel on the same team would be like having two Matt Cassels.

I'd rage so much my brain would just burn out. They'd find me dead, my cranium nothing but a smoking husk, still scalding to the touch.

By the way, let's just be clear about where this is headed.

The prospect of letting Albert walk and using the #1 overall on a tackle is so infuriating, we've misdirected that hostility to irrationally hate on what is, in all reality, a damn fine tackle prospect in Luke Joeckel.

Somebody, probably me, will rebut the notion that he's "garbage" and point out his redeeming qualities.

That person, probably me, will immediately be branded a Joeckel apologist who worships the magical ether that must surround Joeckel -- after all, why else would someone stand up for him?

And this thread will continue down that path until it eventually slides off the front page and out of our collective consciousness.

Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson are much more appealing prospects to me than Joeckel. At least they have real upside.

I like him. Not an upgrade over Albert though.

I've tried that before. The irrational hate for him won't let people see past it since he's not a QB. It's not an accident he is so highly regarded. He's a really good player.

He's fine. He's not damn fine though. He's a first round tackle prospect. He'd go in the top 10 picks in most draft years. I'd grade him as a slight upgrade over Tyron Smith, the #1 tackle taken in 2011.

He's NOT Joe Thomas or Orlando Pace. He's not Matt Kalil. He's not even ****ing Eric Fisher.

There will always be more Luke Joeckels. He's not special at all.

I would say he's Matt Kalil. I see little functional difference. Both are finesse, both are battle tested, both are tacticians who play light and don't punish defenders.

Because he's not the guy everybody and their mother knows we're drafting.

I will admit my OP was hyperbole, but you have to fuel these threads somehow. Joeckel is not even the best tackle prospect in this class, let alone a special prospect. Why are we even still discussing him at 1.1?

Here's the problem I have, SNR, with you and the Joeckel-bashers: you are all Geno-lovers.

While there's nothing wrong with being a basher of a prospect on his own merits, or a lover of another player, the problem I have is that, this offseason, the hatred for one player is inextricably connected to the love for another.

And that's bullshit, because it's as naked as double standards get.

Joeckel is a really good prospect, but he's got warts. We know them well, we've debated them.

But so does ****ing Geno Smith. And to coopt your verbage, you're more than willing to shit all over an imperfect but great prospect to go balls deep into another imperfect but great prospect.

Given the choice between the two, I'd take Geno 10 times out of 10.

But that alone doesn't make Joeckel an inadequate prospect.

Here's the issue.....

I've never said that Joeckel is an inadequate prospect. He is however, not a top 5 LT in the NFL. I don't think he's a top 10 LT in the NFL. He's above average and is only at the top if this class because it's "weak". He's on the same line as Fisher and Johnson. He's not great and he's not the next great LT.

Geno > Fisher > Johnson > Joeckel

Luke can use the force elsewhere.

I don't hate Joeckel as a prospect. He's a technician type guy that lacks some strength, pop, and nastiness. Therefore Id much rather have Eric Fisher, a big nasty fugger. Joeckel is not a guy I would even consider with the #1 pick.

He's never been within a stone's throw of being All Pro.

That's what Joeckel projects to be. He's not going to be an All Pro, but he'll consistently be the #7 or #8 best LT in the league.

You'd take Branden Albert at #1 overall this year, knowing what you know now.

I'd be willing to take Joeckel for the same reason.
