Reid says Geno not out of consideration for No. 1 overall
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
Andy Reid says he'll evaluate 8-10 players for No. 1 pick. Asked why Alex over Geno Smith: "Doesn't mean Geno is out of the water." Smiles. |
More Geno threads!

He is just trying to generate buzz for the #1 pick to trade down. |

I still believe Geno is a possibility. ASmith is only inked for 2 years. Until that changes, I believe he could be meant to hold the spot while Reid develops Geno.
I think its possible that contract talks with Albert will be the compass for what the team does. If they feel like they can get him for what they want to pay, they examine positions other than T at 1.1 Do I think Geno is top of their board at this instant? No. But I don't believe they have decided yet what they will do, and it hinges on several factors. |

Hopefully this "evaluation period" is when Reid figures out that Joeckel actually sucks.

We have a bad track record when it comes to fat coaches smiling and/or winking coyly about drafting a QB.

Plus, the Chiefs did not give up the picks they did to bring in a rookie for open competition. Especially, after Andy said at that Presser "Listen, Alex Smith is the starting QB of the Kansas City Chiefs". |
Just to stick it in our craw, they'll draft Geno... then 30 minutes after drafting him we'll find out he's been traded.
|
Please god let us trade out of the 1-1 and get value, please!

Guys, I think Reid just said that to help with a trade down. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it.

Besides, Smith does have the concussion issue and is 29 years old, and we all know that Daniel is a third string guy. Period. Drafting Geno gives Reid and Alex Smith the chance to mentor him for one or two years without the pressure of having him produce right from the get go. Remember this guy named Aaron Rogers who kinda sat behind this other dude for a couple of years and then kicked ass? Same situation. |
I anxiously await the first "Why not Chance Warmack at #1?" thread......

Just stirring the pot for a trade down.
That smiling/smirk of his gave it away imo. |

I can't take this. I'm putting football on the shelf until the end of April.
|
Posturing aside, I can see this happening. If they don't get a good offer to trade down, why not take Geno? He will probably be as valuable on our QB depth chart as he is when he gets drafted in most cases. Hell...think of the stupidity of those that would trade a high draft pick for Mallet (or Alex Smith :banghead:). Who knows what we might get offered for Geno (or Chase or Alex) next year prior to the draft. I hope we collect QB's that other teams might want. It's the currency of the NFL. Andy Reid IS the guy that turned Kevin freakin' Kolb into a 2nd round pick (and DRC). So yeah...draft Geno if nobody gives us what we think the 1.1 pick is worth.

And he's a giant ball of midget suckery. This was the New Orleans QB lineup last year: http://losersbracket.com/wp-content/...lipopGuild.jpg |
If we draft Geno after all of this (and I can't see a good reason not too) I will be full on hard core homer mode!!

Quote:
Jim Sorgi Curtis Painter Graham Harrell Matt Cassel And the list goes on and on. Teams do that because when you have a franchise starter (like Brees in New Orleans) it does little good to invest all that much money or that high of a draft pick in your backup. It's not a universal strategy, but it is quite common. And we just gave one of those turds a bunch of money to actually play in the event of an injury to Alex Smith (which tends to happen every season, if only for a few games). |

Let's look at it from Andy Reid's perspective. If he thinks Alex has the goods and he sees nobody worth the 1.1 pick, and nobody wants to trade, he should take Geno and just sit him for a year or two while talking him up.
If Alex is good enough for an extension, he can probably trade Geno down the road for at least a first rounder and change. Look at what he got for Kolb. |

Why does everyone talk about Geno being a better athlete than Alex? He isn't. Alex is an excellent athlete. Geno isn't.

But undrafted guy from spread offense with inadequate height and arm strength? Most likely a turd. Russell Wilson he ain't. Hell, Doug Flutie he ain't. |
Reid playing the smart move to get a trade down. Nice!
|
ok ... Reid isnt taking Geno ... he's taking a OLman ... so cry yourselfs to sleep .....

I don't understand why you guys think we would move down to accumulate later draft picks when we acquired two compensatory picks already. one in the 3rd and one in the
6th. |

Andy Reid heard the comparison of Geno Smith to Donovan McNabb and he got hard.
|
Quote:
I'm sure there are some comparable highlights of Alex Smith from college. |
Alex Smith:
40 - 4.71 Vertical - 32 Broad Jump - 9.4 Geno Smith: 40 - 4.59 Vertical - 33.5 Broad Jump - 10.4 |
means nothing ....... either way
we have no idea what they are really thinking. Their moves indicate OT at #1 but who the hell knows. What any team says at this time of the year is worthless. |

And just to let you know, I'm a big Alex Smith fan going back to his college days. He's pretty athletic, accurate and very smart. He protects the ball well in the passing game. However, he has limited arm strength that doesn't allow him to take the top off the defense and throw the receiver open. He's the same guy as Sam Bradford. That's it. And he's most likely maxed out, i.e., what you saw in 2012 from Alex Smith is as good as it's ever going to get. Geno has the ability to rip off 45 yarders into double coverage and put it right into his receivers hands. He does it regularly. With pressure. Alex Smith cannot make those throws. He doesn't make those throws. He's a dink and dunk game manager. Period. And he doesn't make many bad throws whatsoever. All of his passes from 2012 are on YouTube. Go watch the complete games from the entire season. Geno does as good a job protecting the ball in the passing game as I've ever seen anyone do at the college level. |
Can we just put this Geno stuff to bed? It's a done deal.
The Chiefs have made their evaluation of him. They don't think he's worth #1. There's a lot of fans here who do. Or think it's worth the risk. Now we just sit back and find out over the next few years. |
