Not a rumor: Ryan Lilja may be returning to KC
EDIT: No longer a rumor. The Chiefs have reportedly reached out to Lilja.
We're three deep at guard, however. If this is true, I think this portends ugly things for Rodney Hudson's recovery. I think the Chiefs may be angling for a patch at center. http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/4...-of-ryan-lilja The Return of Ryan Lilja? posted by The Gentry Apr 06, 2013 I've never had inside information before, but today I do. It's weird - and it was from out of the blue today - but I have it on good authority that Ryan Lilja is negotiating with the Chiefs to return for the 2013 season. That isn't to say that he would make the cut for the active roster after training camp, but I'd say he's got a damn good shot at that. What would you think to have Lilja back in the fold? — I ain't saying, cause if I do someone's gonna get mad |
This would be a great signing.
|
Well, this could potentially throw yet another wrench in the entire draft breakdown.
|
Alex Smith is happy.
|
is he playing or coaching or coaching while playing
|
I'd really like some more info on Hudson's leg.

Doesn't sound good for Hudson.

Rodney used his legs for standing, walking, jumping, running, kicking, and similar activities, and they constitute a significant portion of his mass. |
Hmm I wonder if this puts a ripple in their draft plans.
|
I hope this means we draft Jordan instead of JR #2

He's not an OT so no effect on the draft.

Well our OT right now are Albert Stephenson Draheim Lilga might be center or LG if there thinking about moving Allen to RT. |

Draft a center with pick 4 or 5.
Lilja cost us the Baltimore game with Casshole fumbling on the one foot line. He should hang it up, and let a young center get a year of experience. |

Albert Lilja Hudson Asomoah Schwartz Stephenson is the swing tackle Allen is the swing guard No Joeckel/Fisher |

Plus we got Draheim as a backup. |
Just depends who Dorsey fells the BPA is.
Does he value a tackle more or does he value a qb more. |

They were equally to blame in my humble opinion....

I truly believe Stephenson is ready for RT.

May the Schwartz be with us!

He hasn't shown one speck of ability to play in the NFL. |

Asamoah is a beast. He is a starter. Just depends if he will be LG or RG.
|
Stephenson showed pretty well for a rookie IMO. I think he has a legit shot at starting at RT.
|
Quote:
The rest of his time was spent sucking ass at LT. ****, he managed to give up 5 sacks in only 379 plays. That's awful. Multiply that by 3 for what he'd do as a starter. |
Quote:
Albert Schwartz or Allen Hudson or Lilga Asamoah Stephenson Thats a pretty good o line. We were ranked above average last year with the 13th best o line. |

That would be wise usage of resources to bring Lilja back, if he is interested in returning.
He can give you quality starts at left guard. |

He sucked last year and let's not sugar coat it. |
The real question is will Reid teach him not to **** up a snap?
|

I don't give 2 shits about Lilja, but this fumble is clearly on Cassel.
And Fouts is a moron. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/video...5-eb7fc99c4867 |
The "Reid will fix everything" mantra is getting old.
Coaches can't fix shitty players. |
Yeah, Cassel ****ed that up. Isn't that the play that he audibled to the QB sneak?
Ugh. It doesn't even matter. Have fun with him, Vikings. |

He should be ready to go full force when training camp opens. |

I don't get why everyone seems to think Schwartz will play guard. I get that he says he's more comfortable there, but he's played RT before pretty well, and that's where we need the most help. Basically this is how I see each o-line starter shaking out, from more likely to less likely (not a depth chart):
LT: draft pick, Albert LG: Allen, Lilja C: Hudson, Lilja RG: Asamoah RT: Schwartz, Allen, draft pick, Stephenson |

It is a rumor no more.
Teicher now reports that the Chiefs have approached Lilja. |
Teicher also writes that Lilja was and is receptive.
Two things: 1. This is bad, bad, bad news for Rodney Hudson's recovery. 2. The Chiefs must have hated the crop of centers this year in the draft. |
I bet this has a lot more to do with Allen...especially if they are gonna go
Albert Lilja Hudson Asamoah And then let Allen and Stephenson battle to death for the right tackle spot. |
Wow, Rodney is toast.
|
guess this is what they think about all the wasted picks scooter had on offensive lineman if they have to bring Lilja back to start.
sad really |

****ing drama queens. |
He signed already?
|
The Chiefs want to win now and (let's just assume) Rodney Hudson isn't recovering very well.
They bring in Ryan Lilja to start at center when he did a pretty meh job of it last year? Doesn't make sense to me. |
I'm not really thrilled by this news. Lilja adds veteran leadership (especially if Albert is gone), I guess, but I was hoping we'd have upgraded the interior line by now.

Chiefs
Chiefs have approached Lilja about returning, according to source April 9 By ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star The Chiefs have approached Ryan Lilja about playing another season, and the veteran offensive lineman was receptive to the idea, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Order Reprints Ryan Lilja More News Read more Chiefs Lilja, who played in high school at Shawnee Mission Northwest and in college at Kansas State, said immediately after the end of last season that he would retire. Lilja, 31, has played nine NFL seasons, six for Indianapolis and the last three for the Chiefs. The three-year contract Lilja signed when he joined the Chiefs has expired, and he is an unrestricted free agent. Lilja said at the end of last season that he would have surgeries on his knee and toe that he had put off until his career was finished. He said at the time it was unlikely he would eventually reconsider his decision to retire. “Physically, you hit a wall and your body kind of tells you to start thinking about it,’’ he said. “I wanted to be in a place where I was at peace with my decision and could move forward and never regret it. I’m there.’’ Lilja was a guard for the first eight seasons of his NFL career before moving to center last year after the Chiefs lost Rodney Hudson. It’s unclear what position Lilja would play. The Chiefs have Hudson returning at center and Jeff Allen and Jon Asamoah returning at guard. The Chiefs also signed Geoff Schwartz, who can play both guard and tackle, as a free agent. The Chiefs begin offseason practice next week, when they hold a three-day minicamp at their Truman Sports Complex facility. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/04/09...#storylink=cpy |
i think the LG position is wide open as they probably think Jeff Allen is terrible there. Rightfully so, and thus, need a LG.
|
Oh ****ing great, hopefully he doesn't make it out of training camp.

Double damn. Was really hopeful about Hudson and no fan of Labjia...
|
The Chiefs are probably thinking about a lineup of this:
Albert Lilja Hudson Asamoah Schwartz Which... is not too far off from last year's starters. If anything, they're not comfortable just giving the starting job to Allen at LG. I sure as hell wouldn't. |
Quote:
This doesn't mean shit about Hudson, just means we need to find a b/u center and they like Lilja. |
