Where we are, roster-wise. Volume 2013.
I've done this every offseason as a way to track the myriad of players that this team will compile over the next few weeks.
On we go: QB Alex Smith Chase Daniel Tyler Bray RB Jamaal Charles Knile Davis Cyrus Gray FB Anthony Sherman WR Dwayne Bowe Donnie Avery Dexter McCluster Junior Hemingway AJ Jenkins Chad Hall TE Anthony Fasano Sean McGrath Travis Kelce Kevin Brock OT Branden Albert Eric Fisher Donald Stephenson OG Jon Asamoah Jeff Allen Geoff Schwartz Rishaw Johnson C Rodney Hudson Eric Kush NT Dontari Poe Anthony Toribio Jaye Howard DE Mike DeVito Tyson Jackson Allen Bailey Mike Catapano OLB Tamba Hali Justin Houston Frank Zombo James-Michael Johnson ILB Derrick Johnson Akeem Jordan Dezman Moses Nico Johnson CB Brandon Flowers Sean Smith Dunta Robinson Marcus Cooper S Eric Berry Kendrick Lewis Husain Abdullah Quintin Demps Ron Parker K Ryan Succop P Dustin Colquitt LS Thomas Gafford Injured Reserved -- Designated To Return CB Sanders Commings Practice Squad TE Demetrius Harris WR Frankie Hammond Jr. OL Rokevious Watkins FB Toben Opurum ILB Darin Drakeford S Malcolm Bronson S Bradley MacDougald |
I like it. I like it alot.
|
Our DE rotation still looks weak.
|
Commings has already been said to be a safety
|
I think Sanders Commings will be part of that Safety group.

Yeah, and also Catapano is an OLB.
All of this will be corrected. Uno momento. |
Done.
This will be updated throughout the offseason, starting with tomorrow, once the UDFA frenzy slows down. |
A success all the way around.
|
The DL is hot garbage. Safety is relying on multiple conversion projects (if you assume ****a is switching).
We've improved at RT. I don't see Avery as much more than Breaston, if that. TEs look deeper, but none of them are all that inspiring. Looks like a 6-10 team. |
Everyone says Robinson and Commings might be switching to safety... I don't know. We definitely need some actual safety depth, haven't had it for years. But at the same time we can't put 6 safeties on the field.
|
I'm wondering if we now try and sign another receiver. Maybe Brandon Lloyd? Maybe Early Doucet?
|
People are down on kelce. He might be the best te in the draft 2 years from now

and he ended up being like, the worst. |
i thought Catapano was going to be a DE ala Wallace Gilberry
|
Moeaki is now the 3 te on the team.
|
which is really, really sad because he was a 3rd round pick we traded up for.
great drafting value Chiefs. |
Quote:
It all depends on A. Smith, and if Reid can get more out of Piiolis underachieving high picks. |
Quote:
Actually I think Jordan reed ends up being the best te from this class, but I really liked kelce pre draft |
Quote:
|
Quote:
which sucks, because we essentially wasted a bunch of drafts. Logjammed a bunch of young players that have never got to show any production or get their feet wet and are already replacing them with new players lol |
Quote:
Menzie, Brown, Lewis, Gray, Moeaki, Baldwin, and possibly Jeff Allen might not make this team. |
i cant even logically see a scenario where guys like Jalil Brown survive to the final 53. Just beaten out by the numbers this year and dont have daddy GM to protect them
|
Quote:
But I actually liked this draft. It was a depth type draft |

Quote:
i knew the Scooter draft pick purge was coming in year 1. |
I like brown as a special teamer that's about it
But yeah a good part of those guys are gone |

didn't Lilja come back?
|
It's horrible! I hate it! We can do better. Guess it could be worse. It's really not too bad. I actually kind of like it. It's brilliant!
|
My thoughts with color coding. Green = I'm happy. Orange = somewhat concerned. Red = Problem.
QB - (sigh) RB - Charles makes it great. I don't know if this new guy will spell him or not. It sounds like he's the most talented running back in the hospital every week. FB - We drafted a fullback? Nobody drafts a fullback any more. I think we're okay here. I actually like DiMarco last year. WR - This is going to be the most interesting training camp battle. If Baldwin would develop like a first round guy should, it could actually be a pretty good unit. If Baldwin remains Baldwin it's going to be kind of deep but with a low ceiling. TE - At least we have enough guys that injuries won't hurt us too bad. Pretty meh, but adequate. OT - If Albert plays with passion we're strong. I liked Stephenson last year, too, despite the one bad game. He showed promise. (We still should have taken Russell Wilson, though.) OG - Seems deep, if not astounding. OC - Scary. Hopefully Hudson comes back strong. I've never heard of Kush and he's not mentioned in any of my draft magazines, which doesn't build confidence. NT - They must like what they see in Powe as depth, so I guess we're okay. DE - Frightfully thin and scary. This is going to be a problem. OLB - Worldbeaters if they can stay healthy. Terrible if they don't. ILB - DJ and ... who are those other guys? Hopefully that new guy who's not Matt Barkley can claim the job. CB - Seems pretty deep. S - I really hope we can replace Kendrick Lewis. That new guy is listed in my draft magazines as "a cornerback who should be a strong safety" and a free safety. I wonder where he'll end up and if he can fight for the starting job. K - Okay. P - Incredible pro bowler. LS - I haven't seen any errors yet, so he's awesome. |
Updated.

I think it's obvious that the Chiefs are going to try to get mismatch options. I know that's going out on a limb......]
But I think the best way to make Smith successful is to creat multiple run/pass plays out of similar formations. I highly doubt we'll be a downfield offense, but we'll rely on mismatches and/or PA passes. A guy like Kelce can block very well, and -while not a world beater - can catch passes. This offense, on pass plays, is going to need the QB to identify mismatches, and get the ball out in rythym. Either by motion, or whatever. I think Davis can provide some of this deception or play making. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Davis is a great pick or anything, but he's significant enough to teams to at least account for him. The Chiefs now have enough options in terms of formation where teams can't stack the box on every ****ing down like they did with Cassel/Charles/Hillis. They at least have to be somewhat concerned of pass plays. Assuming of course that our 1st down /2nd down runs are sufficient - which should be given our line. My $.02 |
Why wouldn't you just put eight in the box and run bracket coverage on Bowe against the Chiefs?
This team will run the ball well, throw all kinds of short passes, have very long drives, get stalled deep in enemy territory, and kick a metric ****ton of FGs. |

That reason: Alex ****ing Smith. |

Lotta people down on Avery, he was quite a talent before he blew his knee out an had a pretty decent year last season. He gets healthier and healthier. Hes a good little rec with a ton of speed. gonna help us out for sure
|
Man do we have a shit-tonne of RBs.
|
Receiver group looks a bit ... Blah.
|
amazing after all these years that we still basically have jack shit on our DL...it could easily be one of the worst in the league...just gross, not a single disruptor
but we have a lot of interesting pieces in the secondary our WR roster is weird..deep, but still kind of punchless, and no young developing WR (unless Baldwin wakes up) i wish we'd grabbed Bailey in the 3rd... |

Kinda like all the different opinions when the Raiders drafted Wilson yesterday at QB. |
only team with a Nico and a Nieko. To the SHIP!!

Gotta say, in one offseason, we've done a really good job upgrading some positions.
QB is a metric **** ton better (i know i know) but it is. ILB is a shit ton better Safety is better TE is better, by alot. RB is better, much better IMO, but I'm a big Davis fan so guess thats a homer call. Same with CB. The WR spot, IMO, is sneaky better. I like Avery and I think Gilyard will make something of himself. Still like something else there, so Baldwin is pretty much a make or break at this point. Would have liked to get the DE better, but I guess DeVito will have to do. I think the OL is pretty well stocked at this point. |
Really would have liked to take a flyer on Da"Rick Rogers in UDFA too.
|
Am I crazy for thinking Hartman might actually make the roster at S?
|
Watch out for Chad Kilgore.
That's my dark horse for the roster this year. And the O-Line is: LT: Fisher LG: Albert C: Hudson RG: Schwartz RT: Stephenson |
Jon Asamoah and Jeff Allen are going to turn out to be wasted picks as they are just washed out of any chance of being in the starting lineup lol
|
the defensive line and free safety positions are the only two absolutely god awful dog shit positions on this team that have a bunch of crap
and Alex Smith but **** him |
I see alot of bullshit thats for sure

i will be shocked if Powe and Bailey make this team

WR & DE positions scare me.

If they really want a line like that...Asamoah has center experience...

Albert
Asamoah Hudson Schwartz Fisher |
Wish we would get Lloyd or someone to add into the WR mix.
|
Bray should be #2 Qb
|
Quote:
later on i believe the 3rd quarterback gets more reps running the scout squad anyway. Bray needs time to mature and understand what he's supposed to do. |
They need to pick up another CB because our depth is shit. If Robinson or Smith go down....Brown is coming into the game.

It's pretty ****ing horrible that Pioli left the CB depth so bare. We used to have an awesome 1-2 combination of Flowers and Carr. Pioli let Carr walk and then kept drafting nickle CBs out of Alabama. ****ing pathetic.
|
7-9/8-8 with this group. Maybe 9-7 if our D lives up to potential playing in an attack style 1-gap.
|
Quote:
Donald Washington Javier Arenas Dequan Menzie Jalil Brown missed horribly on all of them lol. Even statistics say he has a 25 percent chance that 1 of the 4 would pan out. Nope, only Scooter |
Jalil Brown can DIAF.
I do have faith that even with the slight changes at personnel, our offense will be light years better simply from proper coaching and a healthy team morale. |

Really? You're only keep 3 safeties?
|
lol 3 DEs. You find me another 34 defense in the NFL that carries only THREE DEs and Ill shake your hand
|
You need to cut down at least 1 WR, 1 CB and 1 OLB. DE and Safety are too low.
