Ticks

Frikken hate them!

I got 6 on me yesterday doing a photo shoot in the country and that makes 10 so far this year. Looks like its gonna be a bad year for the little bastards.

So what works to keep them off of you if you wander through fields?

Buehler445 04-30-2013 11:41 AM

The biggest ****ing drought ever.

Seriously. No ticks here this year.

gblowfish 04-30-2013 11:42 AM

I just bought a big box of Advantage II for my kitties. Maybe you ought to bathe in some.

Rain Man 04-30-2013 11:45 AM

They're just innocent little creatures trying to make their way in the world.

Mr_Tomahawk 04-30-2013 11:46 AM

Yup.

Lymes Disease sucks...

BigCatDaddy 04-30-2013 11:47 AM

I'd like to check you for some.

Sawyer-Premium-Permethrin-Clothing-Repellent
DO NOT SPRAY ON SKIN...

Turkey hunting in Missouri... I would NEVER go without this stuff... Repel makes a product also.. Sawyer is the Best I have used... Watched the little suckers die after just crawling across a pant leg.

In58men 04-30-2013 11:49 AM

Wear a Alex Smith jersey. Ticks don't like the smell of shit.

Of what? Dirt blowing or the wind blowing through dead wheat?

gblowfish 04-30-2013 11:53 AM

Better check all your nooks and crannies. I mean that in the most positive way.

Kinda like this.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/n3jS8RmvoCk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And change your settings quality to 1080p to really appreciate it.

Cool... Stuff really works. I think the instructions say to wait 12 hours before wearing your clothes. I usually wait 24... Cool part has been that one treatment has lasted entire Turkey hunting seasons. Even after being drenched this Saturday, I was out in the woods this morning and saw a couple of the buggers keel over...

Fish 04-30-2013 12:15 PM

Do you have access to a monkey? Donger might be able to help you out if not...

Holladay 04-30-2013 12:20 PM

Sulfur powder in your socks. Also, I believe its Niacine, the vitamin. And or garlic. These would be a cheap alternative.

WV 04-30-2013 12:23 PM

Two pages.................SMH.

Antifreeze bath of course.

Fish 04-30-2013 12:26 PM

Best thing for ticks is a Permethrin based spray on your clothing. Deet doesn't work very well for ticks.

This stuff is great, and lasts a long time.

We’re actually climbing out of the drought conditions on the east end, expecting a couple more days of rain/snow mix starting Thursday.

You saying Donger isn’t a monkey? Funny, I always picture and hear Lord Reginald from Sponge Bob when I read his posts.

I’ve heard that works but I’m not a big fan of walking around smelling like boiled egg farts all day.

My clock has ticks. I can here'em! They're going tick, tick, tick, tick, tick tick, tick........

DMAC 04-30-2013 01:19 PM

I had one in my beard last week.

TambaBerry 04-30-2013 02:35 PM

Go to your vet and get Vectra 3d its the only thing that actually stops them from biting.

Earthling 04-30-2013 02:53 PM

Put a block of dry ice in some ice chests and set it outside close to where you are shooting. :thumb:

Oh be sure to open the lid to the chests too.

bsp4444 04-30-2013 02:56 PM

I snuck out at lunch to look for some morels in a little park, and came back with way more ticks than muchrooms.

OK I'll bite, what does that do?

Sorter 04-30-2013 02:58 PM

I have some spray somewhere that I found effective. Can't remember the name, will rummage for it later.

Wearing jeans, long socks, and long sleeves have worked for me. Also, boots are fantastic.

loochy 04-30-2013 03:00 PM

I heard that ticks avoid ocelots like the plague. Maybe you should find an ocelot to accompany you.

Unfortunately. Last single precipitation event that yielded over an inch widespread was April 8 2012.

I had to plow some corn stalks last week because they were blowing.... And it's April. Going to be a long summer.

This is true.

Margays (a relative of the wily ocelot) will go out of their way to entirely eviscerate an entire population of ticks.

Or so I've heard.

Pet collars around my boots and wrists

Chief Roundup 04-30-2013 03:14 PM

I don't know why but they just don't like me. Yes I get the occasional one here or there. But not very many at all. I can be hiking and everyone else will be covered and complaining. Ticks, Mosquitos just don't have any trouble with them.

tooge 04-30-2013 03:17 PM

permethryn (sp) is the shit. You wont have a tick within 10 feet of you. Spray on boots, pant legs, and pant waist and you will be good.

Actually Dave that is how they catch ticks for study. Putting a block of dry ice on a blanket out in the open attracts a whole LOT of ticks to it. The dry ice must give of carbon dioxide and thats what prompts the ticks to action. When you walk thru tall grass and such the carbon dioxide that you breath out attracts them to you and they start grabbing for anything by instinct. So, yeah, its not a good idea for the dry ice.

Yes. Well, eastern Kansas. Western Kansas is dry enough they don’t make it there, which is also why they have pheasants and we don’t.

I'm not a huge naturalist/hippie, but damn that shit sounds extremely toxic and I wouldn't want that crap anywhere near me, especially on my pants or around my dick. I know it's apparently that stuff or bloodsucking hell spawns on your body, but damn that is a tough call. I mean if they die crawling on your pants that means that chemical is on your body and you're breathing it too.

One of the best little known secrets about Colorado is we have virtually zero annoying bugs, pretty much no roaches, chiggers, mosquitoes, fleas, and very few ticks. Donk fans suck the big one, but I hike/camp/mtn bike extensively and don't recall ever having a tick on me in 15+ years here.

HoneyBadger 05-01-2013 08:53 AM

Solution: don't live in the Midwest?

I don't even know what a tick is.
