Wow, they treated the passengers like shit after the crash.

The authorities stuck them in a dark, smelly room for 5 hours with no food or drink, and made them wait until they were interviewed.

I agree with you if it only lasted a hour or so, due to the mass chaos that would result, but a major airport should have protocols in place for such situations and once things calm down from the initial shock and people start using their heads, there is no excuse to keep several people who just went through something extremely stressful in those types of conditions (no food, water, access to numerous bathrooms) for 5+ hours.
