One of a pair of new series from former BSG head Ronald D. Moore hitting the airwaves next year (the other being an "Outlander" series for Starz based on Diana Gabaldon's books).

Looks better than most of the garbage they put out.

I think 2014 might be a good year for genre television. There's stuff coming on SyFy, AMC and HBO that I'm really interested in seeing.

What else is coming?

Not as much as I thought, now that I do a little digging. HBO's doing Neil Gaiman's American Gods, supposed to run 6 years and rumored to start airing next year. AMC has been circling scifi for several years, although I don't think anything is official yet there. They've had several interesting looking concepts the last 2-3 years, and I just have the sense that they're going to have something new.

Premiere date set: Friday, January 10th at 10/9c.

Having Moore involved alone means it needs to be checked out.

The previews for this have definitely gotten my attention, looks like it might be the best thing syfy has ever done.

The subject is very current, i'll probably have to make time for this.

After Galactica, Ron Moore has money in the bank with me. Very much looking forward to this.

I haven't caught that one, but if this guy is responsible for bringing more serious, quality fare to syfy then good on him... they need to start getting rid of the schlock monster movies and do more projects like this.

That stuff is sooo bad, i cant imagine why anyone would watch them.

You haven't watched his Battlestar Galactica show? Holy ****. Drop what you're doing and go find those episodes. Be warned - you will lose about a week of your life cramming all those shows in, because you won't be able to put down the remote and sleep.

The show was on air only four seasons but was voted one of the top 50 shows of all time by TV Guide. No.2 actually, behind only West Wing.

In all seriousness, if sci-fi with solid storytelling is up your alley, do yourself a favor and watch Galactica from the beginning.

You think so? Man, I thought this was excellent tv, particularly since its coming from syfy... next week looks like things just keep ramping up.

I really dont watch much weekly appointment television, generally preferring movies, documentaries, survival reality etc.

But this looks to be worth an hour of my time each friday.

Don't get me wrong, it's a huge step up for Syfy. The set is awesome, acting is decent.

The story hasn't grabbed me. It's just the first 2 episodes, so I am not giving up yet.

This is Resident Evil. They need something unique.

That movie is cheddar cheese though, atleast this has a realistic tone.

You can watch episode 3 on demand right now. As far as the series goes, I like it so far.

Meh. Nothing I hate more than smart people being stupid. So many cliches. I had high hopes for this.

I love it so far, its TV so there are going to be some plot holes to the discerning viewer, but I love this show... still trying to figure out the Army Engineers angle on this, he seems to be playing both camps.

Either way, I love stories that mesh with modern reality like this.

It gets better every week IMO, they keep raising the questions and stakes in every episode.

Since they put ep 3 on demand the night the first two hours premiered, I haven't had a new episode to watch until today...

I thought the fourth ep was the weakest yet, but I still like it.

Yeah, last night may not have been the best one, but they did keep things moving...

The japanese administrators head of security is starting to question the boss, that bears watching.

The Army engineer is starting to kill a person an episode.

More and more people are coming down with the virus.

They still have a lot of room for the growth of the story, wild plot twists etc... the best is still ahead IMO, this is good tv.

Enjoying it quite a bit. Interested to figure out who is behind all of this and what the endgame is.

I was a bit surprised that they killed off the chunky blonde scientist. She had a good personality and was super smart. Her brains actually got her killed.

And do you get the feeling that the administrator has already been infected with the virus and mastered it (or it him)? The way that vector looked at him and backed down makes you believe that even the infected know he's the Head Cheese in Charge.

I don't think I've seen any original programming on SyFy that was any good.

Yeah, I totally forgot to mention that part, the biggest and most puzzling clue in last nights show... then I also just remembered the part about the female scientists having been to the complex before because of her seeing her initials on the wall.

I actually had a bad feeling about the blondes fate as soon as the Army guy started cozying up to her a few shows back.

Damn good show, glad I decided to give it a try.

Yep, very true. But the way they're wheeling and dealing with DNA sequencing up there, who knows what that was all about. Riddick's eyes were obviously the first thing I thought of.

You owe it to yourself to watch the entire four year run.

Nope, but I keep telling myself its something I should get, you get a helluva lot of content for $10 a month or whatever it is now.

I have the 8$ streaming subscription that allows two simultaneous active users. I think you can still sign up for a free trial month.

Are you close to a Vintage Stock store? You might be able to rent it out season by season if you do. Generally like ten bucks a week.

Sadly, that free month was used up back when my daughter stayed with me for a short time, she's hip to all of that stuff and got us hooked up... I watched the hell outta some great documentaries, thats their strongest category IMO.

According to the article they now have three plans. One user for $6.99, two users for $7.99 and four users for $11.99 per month.

I think you could create a different account with another e-mail address and a different payment method. If it's been a while, they might let you give it a shot if you tell them that the new pricing plans are making you reconsider.

Oh hell, looks like they're onto Ballastreros.

I had a feeling the head security guard would turn out to be ok... but who knows just yet.

This show started off as "OK" to me, but business has picked up the last few episodes weeks.

The one thing that annoyed me this last episode is how Daniel turned on Hatake. This chick he doesn't know gets all of three minutes of face time and he's convinced? I get why they did that, but meh.

And good lord, Jeri Ryan. Dammit, girl.

And I'll definitely never hear elevator music the same, ever again. Heh.

I'm 3 weeks behind. Hopefully catch up tonight.

Caught up, still not doing a whole lot for me. Not bad, but not great.

It's a slow burn buildup, for sure. The last couple of episodes have pulled me in more so than the first few.

As long as it doesn't reach the point where you have to suspend ALL of reality a la The Following, I'll be good.

I still don't get the popularity of the following. I think I lasted 3 or 4 episodes on that one.

I still love the external shots. The wind is freakin' blowing 200 miles per hour, howling as part of the soundtrack... and those windmills turning ever so slowly.

Farscape 2.

My biggest problem right now, is believing that Ballasteros took an ice pick in the gut all the way up to the hilt... but is ok enough to fight the reservation cop and go for a long snowmobile ride just days later.

But I still like the show, ya gotta set some of the pickiness aside for a show like this.

I've deleted all unwatched episodes of Helix from my DVR (I had 3 unwatched) and deleted the timer. I don't like this show.

I'm a fan, haven't missed an episode, its a timely subject IMO.

"The Scythe" is about the only things that's really gave me a bit of sneer, dude just isn't a very good actor and the concept of some kind of badass one man army type is a bit of a stretch.

I thought the show got worse as soon as they introduced the 'immortal' angle. It's like taking a science fiction show about an outbreak and turning it into what was for all intents and purposes a vampire drama. And I agree about the scythe, just a bad character.

Theyre definitely pushing the limits, I'd like to see them tighten things up next year and not let the storyline spiral off in a thousand different directions like it started to at the end of this season.

I fell a sleep the last 2 weeks.

Well. That was....strange.

Yeah, that was bad. This series had so much potential until they decided to turn into a vampire story at the end of season 1. I actually though the show was cancelled. Just caught the season 2 pilot. What a total joke. Won't be wasting any more time on this trash.

The whole way through I was WTF is this shit? The funny thing is that it was SO bad that I feel compelled to watch again just to see where this trainwreck goes.

It was just a complete cluster. I've never seen anything so disjointed before. I still have no clue what they were thinking.

Watched every episode last year and tried to stick with it friday... nah, I'm done with Helix.
