What Position Would You Like Up-Graded(non-qb)?

So, for a non qb, it has to be the 3 tech or the Z (Wr #2). Both those positions are a disaster right now.

HoneyBadger 08-01-2013 11:22 AM

Give it a couple games to decide.

I will concur. Our cheerleaders have been of the mid to early 30s variety and I'm not sure I approve.

But seriously, 3-tech. I have no idea how the scheme change will affect the guys we currently have here, but I have a hard time believing any other player but Poe will be that much better off. Allen Bailey has the strength/speed to beat blockers if you give him the assignment pre-snap, but he's just got no moves at all. The crafty offensive linemen will shut him down instantly. Tyson Jackson? Pssh. I wish.

If we're moving Poe around a bunch, or even putting him at the 3 full time and using DeVito as the NT, I feel a bit better I suppose. But then our NT is kind of a gaping pile of AIDS.

Basically, let's hope Poe is awesome, and then I'll use my one wish in this thread to ask for just one more awesome defensive linemen. Then we should be good.

Really, I think we'll be okay(ish) at WR2. I know Avery is far from a given even when he's healthy, but I like to think we have enough speed at the position now to at least open up stuff in the slot. If anything, I'd like to see a real slot guy instead of this McCluster/Wylie trainwreck we have going on right now.

Does backup QB count as wishing for a QB upgrade? So we can hope for an Alice injury and then get what we want?

It says non-QB, but I assume you mean the starter.

Id like to see Ernest get some reps in the slot.

Aside from the obvious 3 tech and Z players I'll throw out one nobody has said yet.

CB. We'll see how Sean Smith does, but I don't have much faith in Dunta Robinson at all, especially against WR's like Wes Welker.

If we get good players to fill our needs in FA, or if we're on the board in round 1 and there isn't a good QB, 3 tech or WR available, I'd draft the CB from TCU. We're gonna need good cover corners and Reid likes have a lot of good DB's on his team.

I want this guy so bad, but I have a feeling he's going in the top 10, possibly top 5, and we'll be picking around the teens somewhere (best case scenario low twenties).

Do you want a guy on the outside to relegate Flowers to the nickel or do you want a nickel guy who can move Flowers back outside?

Probably a nickel guy, but it depends on Sean Smith. If he does well, we can just get a guy who can cover slot receivers.

If Sean Smith flames out, I think we need to get a CB who can deal with bigger WR's since Flowers has had a little bit of trouble with them.

Would love it if Sean Smith worked out and we got an awesome nickel. I like what the Seahawks built and I think in today's NFL it's a good foundation for a defense.

we had a guy that could cover wes welker type guys in Arenas but we traded him for a fullback.

Have we cut that fullback yet?

RealSNR 08-01-2013 12:27 PM

We're going to be fine at ILB, I think. Even if Nico isn't ready, we've got a pretty good shot at getting better production out of that spot with Jordan/Diles than last year. And I'd almost bet my life savings that none of them will murder their girlfriends and then commit suicide!

I'm calling it now. Dunta either gets glass vagina'd on the injury report nearly the entire year, or one of the other CBs beats him out of a job.

Okay, that's more based on hope than anything else. Even with his struggles last year, I like Jalil Brown a lot. I think he takes a bigger step this year and actually becomes a solid contributor on defense.

A league average #2 WR and an additional league-average CB would make a big difference I think.

BlackHelicopters 08-01-2013 05:50 PM

Position? Reverse cowgirl.

O.city 08-01-2013 05:54 PM

A defensive lineman who could play the 3 tech (or be scheme versatile ala potentially Poe) and play multiple spots on the line and dominate.

A WR would be nice, but IMO, you can find an adequate or even really good #2 WR elsewhere (remember Maclin will be coming back off injury and IMO, would fit really nice with Bowe and will come fairly cheap).

One spot I'd really look into would be an athletic pass rusher, who could potentially put his hand in the dirt or stand up and rush the passer in subs early then replace Tamba in a year or two.

There's no way in hell we get a shot at Tuitt, who, if he has another season like last year, might be the second guy off the board in the 2014 draft.

However, to answer the OP's question, it's got to be the WR#2 position.

Baldwin must have a breakout season this year. If he can't get it done with Reid as his coach and Smith as his QB (accurate in the mid-range/intermediate area where Baldwin should be dominating), then the guy has to be considered a bust. Personally, I think he'll get pushed really hard by Junior Hemingway this summer, who, while at Michigan, had terrific hands and ran really good routes. However, there isn't much else on the roster in terms of what you really want out of your possession/#2 receiver. It's going to be Jon or Junior or bust.

I was going to mention either guard spot, but there is solid depth there and I think that if Allen or Asamoah don't distinguish themselves, guys like Schwartz or Reynolds could easily step in and provide good production.

O.city 08-01-2013 09:14 PM

If he has another good year, Sammy Watkins (sp?) wouldn't be a bad choice.

It's got to be either a difference maker on the front 7, or a playmaker.

Deberg_1990 08-01-2013 11:08 PM

Succup. Don't trust him from 35 to 45 yards.

CoMoChief 08-01-2013 11:55 PM

WR or DE

Unless Jackson turns into Richard Seymour overnight....I don't have too much hope for the guy. Maybe a new scheme will help.

WR is a def need though.

I agree Tuitt will probably go top 5 and I see the Chiefs picking around 15 to 20. So I'll be watching Ra"Shede Hageman, Minnesota Gophers, as a mid first round 3-4 DE prospect. He had 36 tackles and 6 sacks in 2012. He was a standout basketball player in HS and says he can do a 360 dunk at 6'5" and 310 lbs. He has a 36" vertical leap, a 465 lb. bench press, and was electronically timed at 1.57 seconds for the 10 yard split of his 40 yard dash. Impressive athlete on a team that went 2-6 in the big ten.
