What if Fisher sucks at RT?

Who replaces him there? Stephenson, Schwartz, Allen???

I know he's a rookie, but from what I've been hearing is that he's been struggling in 1on1 drills etc. I know he's switching sides which can be a factor, esp at that high of a level expecting to do as well as you would from your strong side. But should an overall#1 pick be struggling like this, esp at an important position to where he kinda has to be thrown to the wolves early?

And if he ends up having a shitty season. Does this team invest in another tackle early in the draft again next season or go FA? That would drive this board ****in nuts LOL.

How about if we let the team play at least a couple of exhibition games before we declare any player a success or a failure?

You were probably on the Jonathan Baldwin bandwagon last year, weren't you? How did that work out?

Fat Elvis 08-02-2013 08:55 AM

I think he will wind up being fine. Going from college to facing Hali and Houston every day is a big jump. Learning from practicing against those two every day will mean that most rushers he faces during the season will seem like blocking tackling dummies.

In all honesty, I remember when When Shields' said that "when an OL is mentioned in any report it's usually bad." Which of course means that their anonymity is a good thing.

I was worried about Fisher when he said he needs to eat 7000 cals a day to get up to his playing weight. That means he's a pretty small guy naturally that has to work his ass off to get up to 300lbs. Those type of lineman always worry me as opposed to the 320 guy that has to cut 10-15lbs to get into playing shape.

All linemen eat 5000-7000 calories a day. U need that much to maintain that weight because of the amount of calories they burn in practice and workouts.

Then you draft another RT with your first pick in the draft next year and give Alex Smith a $60 million dollar extension to see what he can do when you surround him with the right 53.

1st that's not true and 2nd he does that year round.

http://www.bobgretz.com/chiefs-footb...ic-fisher.html

From the time he left Stoney Creek High School in suburban Detroit, to his standing now on the cusp of the first round of the NFL Draft, Eric Fisher gained 70 pounds.

Working on a diet that at times reached 6,000 calories a day he went from 240, to 265, to 275, to 295, to 310 pounds. And, along the way he didn’t just gain weight; he built himself into a first-round choice in the 2013 NFL Draft.

RealSNR 08-02-2013 09:54 AM

A lot of people sure are sensitive about Eric Fisher.

The guy will probably be a good player in the league, but I think we all knew the huge overwhelming odds we were facing if he would ever even sniff his #1 overall value. That's always been why he was a shitty pick.

I think 500 would be very generous.

Again you totally missed the point. This was a 245lb kid that bulked up to 310 by eating a shit load of cals. He wasn't 280-300 coming out of HS as a lot of highly recurited lineman are.

Probably a lot.. Which is why he'll probably lose 10 pounds during the season if he can only get up to 300-305 in the offseason.

You understand that a 300 lb man burns ~500 calories with just a 30 minute aerobic workout, don't you? Just standing for a hour burns ~170 calories if you weigh 300 lbs. Walking back and forth between the dorms and practice 2x/day will burn ~300 calories.

There are many factors that would need to be considered, but the point still stands that this is a small guy that bulked up.

I think he's struggling because he's just not quick enough playing the right side techniques. He's an LT and even though he played some RT (during HS?) doesn't mean shit when you're going against pros and you haven't played that side recently.

He's a pretty smart guy -- I expect he'll be at least serviceable come JAX.

Then he's an even shittier pick than I thought.

He's a compromise of safety and potential all at a position so undervalued that the number of his kind that have been drafted #1 overall can be counted on one hand.

Lol this thread. If anyone is AT the practices will notice most of the time he looks 100% the part. The only time anyone reports anything is when he does make a mistake. Is he All-Pro at this second, no but that doesn't mean he looks horrible out there. He is just a rookie getting better as training camp goes. Heck Albert still gets beat during practice as well. Wouldn't expect anything but overreacting on this board.

Again, there isn't much of a chance of Fisher being a bust. He's already playing like a pretty good player.

Being a good player isn't the issue, though. We need him to be better than good for the draft pick (not to mention the money) we've invested in him.

Yeah. I biked 30 miles yesterday, it was about 75 degrees. It says I burned 1600 calories. Im sure he is burning well over 2000 a day when you factor in the lifting, and practicing in pads in heat.....
