A Sad Story: Why Can't People Leave Harmless Animals Alone?
I read this story on the front page of the KC Star this morning. I drive by Elmwood Cemetery on Truman Road every day on my way to work. I've seen Ella the Deer on a couple of occasions. She was more or less a "pet" inside the cemetery, and didn't harm a soul. Why somebody would shoot this gentle, beautiful animal for no reason is beyond me. Why do people have to be such assholes?
Story is here: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/08/05...-cemetery.html |
Short answer: a lot of people are worthless pieces of shit
|
I've been wanting to shoot the squirrels that are stealing my tomatoes.

Ironically, I'm making an enormous batch of venison jerky right now for a fishin trip.
|
Deer inside city limits seem very cute and nice. But, the fact is they are a danger. Many people get hurt and even killed in deer car collisions every year. Not to mention the money it costs to individuals and insurance.
The truth is the deer population needs to be thinned out. I really can't believe this was front page news. Must be very slow in KC this time of year. |

That cemetary is on Van Brunt, it probably just caught a stray bullet.
|
I could care less about someone killing a deer. There are too many of them and they are essentially pests. This particular one seemed to be more of a pet though. It pisses me off that they left it. If it turned out some homeless guys killed it for food, I could rationalize it, but to leave it lay is plain wrong.

Oh and they do NOT just live in the cemetary. |
This particular deer was born in the cemetery years back and her momma was hit by a car shortly thereafter. The fawn was orphaned. There's been stories about her in the paper over the past couple years. She stayed inside the cemetery walls, and wasn't a threat to anybody.
It's a shame we can't have a little sliver of humanity in a place like an old cemetery. Some asshole with a gun has to kill just to get his jollies. |

It doesn't sound like this deer was doing any damage and was welcomed by the cemetery people. I agree with George. Just a senseless killing.

You're a dipshit that can't read an article or you wouldn't post stupid shit like this. Now may Bambi stick his antler up your deer piss smelling ass LMAO "Where there is a fawn there is a momma deer and a big old Buc. Fawn grown up and become breedable with the big old Buc and there is another fawn. It is called the cycle of nature. In no time you will have a nice size herd of deer" |
What a waste.
That deer could have been fed to the homeless. Also, I think you should get out there and have a serious discussion with the wild dogs who attacked that poor creature and encourage them to modify their behavior. |

'human nature' is pretty ****ing twisted |
She was attacked by feral dogs too? Wow that poor thing had a tough life.

As for these deer shooters, I'll bet anything it was some teenage boys. Unsupervised kids who were bored because their parents are idiots. |

The first mayor of KC is buried there (William Gregory) along with several other mayors and politicians, including judges and congressmen. Families that have streets in KC named after them (Hardesty, McGee, Meyer and Gregory). Guys who were major business people in their day: The Amour Family plot is there (Armour Meats, Armourdale area in KCK named after the family), Carl Muehlbach started Muehlbach Beer , old Blues/Municipal Stadium was first called "Muehlbach Field," Samuel Woolfe (Woolfe Brothers Clothing), Victor Spears (Spears Apple Juice and Vinegar), Morris Helzberg (Helzberg Diamonds), and Mary Atkins (Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art). Also KC's most famous whore house madam Annie Chambers is buried there, plus KC's first black policeman, William Davis. |

Thanks a lot obama

I want before & after pics

It sucks someone killed this deer and didn't eat it, but I don't get why people get more upset about someone shooting an animal than they do about all the people that get killed every day.
|
There is obviously a lot of senseless killing, especially on KC's East Side. And we become numb to it because we hear about shootings in KCK, or the East Side, or Midtown, just about every day in KC.
This story makes me feel weary. I love animals, many of them I love more than some people I know. And it's just a Goddamn shame that in this one little island in the middle of all the decay and crap that is the KC East Side, that this one little animal that brought so much happiness to people who visited that cemetery had to be needlessly shot. It just sucks. I suppose the cynic in me says its inevitable, and the realist in me says the death of an animal is not as serious as that of a human being. But still, its little things in life, like a peaceful harmless deer living in an old city cemetery, and bringing joy to the people who visit there, that gives hope and delight to life in some weird way. It's just depressing that something special like this always has to end because of some senseless act of stupidity. |
Sometimes I want to shoot annoying birds that build nests and shit above my patio. But this article is why I don't like 90% of people.

How exactly did people think Ella's life was going to end, anyway? Becomes mayor and free acorns for all? Finds the ark of the Covenant?
I'm against senseless killing, but some of you are living in the Truman Show. Ella herself is glad it wasn't an urban dog pack feasting on her guts while she was keepin it warm for them. |

We had pet deer when I was young as well as a raccoon. They were fun for a while but animals do what animals do, they grow, they change, they die.
...which leads me to the main point, no matter how much your raccoon likes rhubarb, make sure to tear off ALL of the leaves. If you don't, he will die. Nature is a crueler bitch than people. |

To perpetuate the giving nature of Ella the wonder-deer, they should preserve her memory as a giver by donating her organs to hungry cats.
