Bad movies - good soundtracks...

No longer have a VCR but pulled my old VHS copy of Dream A Little Dream out of a box and was looking up if it was on DVD. Anyway, I was shocked how good the music was.

Everything from Van Morrison to Otis Redding to Mickey Thomas (Starship.) Probably the reason I still have a soft spot for that flick even though it was mostly forgetable.

What else have you watched that isn't worth a rent but is worth listening to?

All porn has excellent soundtracks............

The movie wasn't horrible, but the soundtrack was much better than the movie.

It certainly had it's moments - biggest problem was it came out around the same time as Almost Famous, and Almost Famous blows it away on every level.

agreed...but being a music dork...the back story on the Rock Star band is really cool.
the band, Steel Dragon....although a fake band for the movie...in some ways was indeed a real band...for a bit. below is info on Steel Dragon that may only interest me......but there are some who's who names that created Steel Dragon. and for what it is....for what it was supposed to be....'80's hair band rock.....those Steel Dragon songs are pretty good.

The band's formation on-screen included the talents of four musicians and had actors playing the role of the lead singers, who actually were dubbed by vocalists Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Journey) and Michael Matijevic during their performances, except for Myles Kennedy, who did the actual singing himself during his brief scene during the movie.

Also, there were other additional musicians who gave their contribution to help in the process of composing and performing the songs, as listed below:

Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) - Guitarist "Ghode"
Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, Dokken) - Bassist "J?rgen"
Jason Bonham (Foreigner, Led Zeppelin) - Drummer "A.C."
Jason Flemyng (Actor) - Lead singer "Bobby Beers"
Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, Journey, Axel Rudi Pell) - Lead vocals for "Bobby Beers"
Mark Wahlberg (Actor) - Lead singer "Chris 'Izzy' Cole"
Miljenko Matijevic (Steelheart) - Lead vocals for "Chris 'Izzy' Cole"
Dominic West (Actor) - Guitarist "Kirk Cuddy"

Additional Musicians

aha ahah (Bass)
Brian McLeod (Drums)
Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) (Lead vocals) - "Thor" ("Chris 'Izzy' Cole's" replacement to finish last Concert)
Blas Elias (Drums) - "Donny Johnson" (Blood Pollution)
Nick Catanese (Black Label Society) (Guitar) - "Xander Cummins" (Blood Pollution)

While Nick Catanese appeared in the movie as Xander Cummins, a member of the tribute band, he actually played guitar on all of the Steel Dragon songs on the soundtrack, along with Zakk Wylde, who appeared as Ghode, the guitarist that Xander Cummins was playing tribute to.

Stephan Jenkins (Third Eye Blind) - Lead Singer (Black Babylon)
Brian Vander Ark (Bass) - "Ricki Bell" (Blood Pollution)
Timothy Olyphant (Actor - Guitar) - "Rob Malcolm" (Blood Pollution)

I actually like the movie but it didn't do well at the box office.

Frosty 08-16-2013 02:36 PM

Just thought of another one - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

The movie was beyond terrible but, at the time, I liked a lot of the songs off of it, particularly Aerosmith's version of "Come Together". Steve Martin's take on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" was pretty humorous, too.
