Rat Bastards at Time Warner raising rates

Now the modems will have a monthly fee and the internet service gets a monthly fee bump

turns out to be about 15 bucks a month increase for internet in our area

might be increasing the T.V. fees too but haven't seen that yet.

Man, i used to love U-Verse... But over the last 2 years it's been a constant problem... internet drops constantly.... have had to replace our "router" 4 times in the last 2 years....

hmm. Yeah, we had it for 2 yrs until we moved 2 years ago now back to DTV thank god. Had DTV for 10 years prior to that

kepp 08-29-2013 10:26 AM

Yep...same deal for me. I only use them for internet, but my only other choice is SBC/ATT DSL. I find it a really bad business move considering Google Fiber is hitting the area soon.

duncan_idaho 08-29-2013 10:27 AM

Those rat bastards will no longer be part of my life as of 09/10. Scheduled my Google Fiber installed this morning...

So happy to be counting down the expiration of Time Warner in my life.

BlackHelicopters 08-29-2013 10:27 AM

Are you getting a Google TV package, or just getting wired up?

Today is the last day of TWC for me. Feels good, man.

keg in kc 08-29-2013 10:30 AM

I wish google fiber was an option. The whole "record 8 channels at once/500 hours of HD dvr" sounds great.

Stewie 08-29-2013 10:33 AM

Hmmm... I have EarthLink for Internet and they piggy-back (resell) TW service. It'll be interesting to see if I get an increase.

I switched to U verse about 3 years ago when they came around. The day they came out and installed, I called Time Warner and when their rep asked "what can I do for you today" I told him "YOU'RE FIRED" and "THAT I NO LONGER REQUIRED THEIR SERVICES". It was GREAT.

It'll all be oboslete in a few years. Netflix and Xbox one are going to take over home media.

Yet another bad business decision made by a big American company. These guys are pulling billions but that isn't enough they have to run off their customers because they want more.

ChiliConCarnage 08-29-2013 01:06 PM

Time Warner has always charged for modem rental haven't they?
You don't have to pay to rent the modem. I know we used to buy our own.

Gonzo 08-29-2013 04:00 PM

I just cancelled cox cable and Internet and got a package deal from century link. I had basic cable and Internet with them and was paying 120 bucks a month... For BASIC. No HD and only 50 channels.
I'm getting fiber-optic Internet, Direct TV, high def with DVR's on all three TV's. NFL Sunday ticket and their premium services all for 70 bucks a month. Locked in for 2 ****ing years.

Suck my cox.

I'm surprised they didn't do away with that long ago. Too much money to be made in raping their customers for equipment rental fees.

Even if you don't have Google available in your area yet, you sure as hell can use that as leverage to bend them over for a better deal. Raymore hasn't been announced (who knows if ever), but ATT falls for it every time I negotiate a better rate.

Sage advice. I'm not making a cool half-half-half-half mil for nothing, after all.

Strongside 08-29-2013 05:44 PM

LMAO. Google Fiber is ass raping these clowns. I just had my install today. I've never felt better about leaving a cable company in my life. They can suck a fat one. BTW, Google Fiber is probably the greatest thing ever. It really is instantaneous downloading. No buffering...ever.

Were you without internet during the install? My install is tomorrow, I'm hoping to be able to get some work done while they're here.

Strongside 08-29-2013 05:49 PM

I'm still at the office. Here's a Google-sourced one though.

I had cancelled TWC, but they hadn't shut it off yet...so no. I wasn't at home during the install though so it wouldn't have mattered.

Yeah, it's pretty much required to hate your ISP, but Cox really is that terrible. I had their service for 6 months before they increased my bill from $90 to $100, and there was no HD, no DVR, no special channels, and the internet wasn't anything special. Canceled cable at that point and really wished I lived in the Qwest/CenturyLink part of town.

This thread reminded me to check up on TWC... I have it set to autopay, but you can't trust them not to raise rates month to month.... and sure enough, they had bumped it $30 in the past month. Dropped by a store though and left with a better deal, faster internet, a new modem, a couple of channels I'll never watch, and a refund for the $30 increase. PBJ

I'd probably switch to Google fiber if it's ever offered here, but I don't mind TWC... I now get 30mbps plus some extra sports channels for about the same cost as Google fiber, and rarely have signal problems after some initial issues.

Cable companies losing money to internet tv, so the recoup the money by jacking up the cost of internet.

All that "bundle" bullshit just means they have a hand in it all and will get their money one way or another.

I didn't know they served Bellevue, thought they were only west of I-680. But yeah, I've been with them ever since they were USWest and while there have been hiccups since CenturyLink took over and started upgrading the network I would never even consider switching to Cox. They now have the fiber stuff installed in my neighborhood but I've been too damn busy to get them out here to get it going.

Miles 08-29-2013 09:33 PM

I am stuck with Time Warner with my apartment complex. It's a decent enough service but the pricing is fairly unreasonable. They better work out some deal with CBS before the ****ing season starts.

So, does anyone have experience with Earthlink broadband in the KC area? I was looking at this - http://www.earthlink.net/access/cable.faces - and briefly chatted with a sales person. 15 Mbps down/1 Mbps up, $39.90/mo for the first 6 months. No contracts, no installation/setup fee, and they don't charge for the modems. Its a little better than TWC prices, but I don't want to do it if the service is crap.

I dumped AT&T for Earthlink. I got the 10 Mbps service for 29.99/mo. It goes to $42/mo. after six months. About the cheapest I could find for a decent connection. I've had it since May and have had no problems.

They all do that in reality. I pay just under 60 a month for Mediacom here in Illinois, internet only. Just keep renting their Cisco box because it works very well. I never get close to the data limit, and the speed is real solid.
