Alex Smith vs. Rich Gannon
My view is that Andy Reid has no use for "game manager" QBs. What skills did Rich Gannon have that Alex Smith does not? Rich Gannon passed for about 4500 yards one year a Reid-like offense. Why can't Alex Smith do the same? Not saying he will, but help me understand why it's not going to happen.

Because Alex Smith sucks. Now go away.
|
I think we want an actual threat, Fringe

Edit: It was 4600 yards as well. |
Moeaki may have played more healthy games as a Chief.
|
Gannon piled up all those stats in a dink and dunk offense and was helped out a lot by YAC.
Certainly he was a gamer and I admire what he did in the league with minimal giftedness, but I don't put a lot of stock in his stats. He was a system QB. |

It's just not a good look with the personnel the Chiefs have. Jamaal Charles should be the focal point of this offense. He's by far your best player and he needs to get the ball consistently for the team to be successful. If not, I really think you guys could struggle. At least early. |
So, Rich Gannon was a fraud?

But you essentially have two 1,000 yard WR's. Jerry had 1200 and Tim Brown was just shy at 930. Rich Gannon was a good player, and 2002 was a great year. But that team was very talented. I mean, they did go to the Super bowl after all. |

I ****ing hate Rich Gannon.
Every time we get some limp dicked, over-aged, noodle-armed game manager in here, the fan base aspires to his achievement of getting his ass waxed in the Super Bowl. **** that shit. |

If the chiefs got anything close to the results out of alex smith that the raiders got with Rich, then it will be a good year. |

Who needs that? :hump: |

Also, Smith is too risk adverse to take enough chances to put up big yards. I don't see that changing. |

You guys aren't arguing against me in this thread, you're arguing against Andy Reid. That is all.

My opinion (and hope) is that he is the two year stop gap(albeit at a mighty price) and Bray is ready to be a stud and take over by then. |
Not even ****ing close. Gannon was a goddamned WARRIOR with they eye of the tiger, who could stretch a sideline beautifully when called for.
Now get the ****outta' here with that shit. Get off my lawn. |

Gannon lived off the middle. Didn't have the arm to use the whole field. |

Rich Gannon was just cerebral. |
On another note; my goddamned avy is ****ing prophetic.

There's a difference between being capable of throwing a football 30 yards and being able to do it with effectiveness in the NFL.
Just being able to throw the ball that distance isn't all there is. hitting a wide open man with a rainbow when he's behind a DB is one thing, but throwing the ball hard on a line between the corner and safety on a deepish out pattern is a different kind of throw. Anybody in the NFL should be able to do the former. |

Rich Gannon wasn't afraid to throw the ball and make a play. Alex plays tentative football.

Now THAT I would be impressed with. |
they also had 21 TD's rushing that season Gannon threw 4600 yds. he had 26 TD's.
RB Garner was tearin it up that year, RB Crockett was a TD machine too. If the Chiefs could score 21 TD's running it, I think Smiff will be fine. And is DBowe Tim Brown? oh boy. He says he's gonna lead the league. Time to roll Dwayne. |

And Bowe is Bowe. I will take any bet right now that barring injury, Smith has a more productive year statistically than any he ever had with San Fran. |
Can we clone Marcus and bring him back too?

Furthermore Alex Smith is 1000000x smarter than that idiot in Philly who was dumb enough to throw away a starting QB career that pays millions for getting involved with a stupid crime like dog fighting... Vick was lucky Reid gave him another opportunity to be a starting QB, but only cause McNabb was at the end of his road in Philly. |

Lets say we had an injury free bet that says if he throws for less than 3000 yards you win. If he throws for more than 3400 I win. No one win in between. Winner gets full Av Sig etc. Control. You got the balls, Sweet Chuck? |
