The National Anthem -scooby doo wah-
Some NFL fans still give Chiefs fans grief for shouting CHIEFS at the end of the anthem.
Personally, that doesn't bother me, because I know it's not meant as a disrespect to veterans or to the country. It's paying tribute to Arrowhead, the team, and the Chiefs fans themselves. The Chiefs even have a commercial out with Ed Asner voicing over about how moving the anthem is at Arrowhead. What I hate is when singers "scooby doo" up the anthem, by scat singing, or woo woo wooing the lyrics. I like it when they sing the song as it was intended. If their voice is good, the song is dynamic enough where you don't have to scooby it all up. What do you think? Does the scooby version bug you, or are you fine with that? http://www.gurl.com/2012/07/02/worst...tional-anthem/ |
I've never understood why the national anthem is sung at sporting events in the first place.
|
Your poll is confusing.
|
It doesn't bother me as long as I think the artist is doing it with respectful intentions (similar to the way you aren't offended by "home of the Chiefs").
|
I detest what I have taking to calling "Vocal Acrobatics". Sing the ****ing song and get off the field. We don't need or want a demonstration of your range... we want to watch a ****ing sporting event.
|
I don't like the voice-shaking scooby-wah stuff in any context. which is why i find shows like The Voice or American Idol to be unwatchable.
|
No, I like it. Plenty of places do it. For example, it's always the "home of the BRAVES" in Atlanta.

Less of this crap...

They don't even do it at basketball games.
|
Rid of the whole thing all together.

I've sung it a couple times for the Omaha Beef indoor football:

I don't care about singers fancying it up; and I don't care about "Home of the Chiefs" or whatever else. I'd just like to go to an event and that event start at the time it is scheduled without any sort of pre-game show or singing. |

I don't like that up and down stuff on any song, whether it's a star-spangled one or not. I always kind of figure it's because the person's not a good enough singer to hold a note.
I like the Home of the Chiefs thing, though I can understand why it bothers some people. To me, the "Home of the Chiefs" is the perfect transition from the national anthem to the football game. Plus, if you have a big, enthusiastic crowd doing it, it's got to make opposing rookies think twice. |
Any Banles song would be more appropriate than the National Anthem

Personally I think every football game should begin with Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," but that's just me.

I'm talking about freestyling the anthem. Not about yelling "Chiefs." I'm actually OK with that. I'm not OK with scooby-ing up the anthem itself. I hate that.

I hate the singer carrying the ends of certain words out. Just sing the damn song. But if I am at Arrowhead or in ANY Living Room watching the game I will say "CHIEFS" at the end of the anthem. Someone that doesn't like it can get over it.

That would solve all the problems. |
I like the Anthem. I don't like it all scooby fied. Home of the Chiefs all good to me.

If enough people sang Immigrant Song during the Star-Spangled Banner, they might eventually make the change.

This discussion reminded me of this:

More Carl Lewis.

While I don't care for melisma either, I tend to be more bothered by singers that take the tempo way too slow. It's not a ballad, and it's not a funeral dirge.

Is that because it was discovered by Melisma Etheridge or something? |
This is how it's done - run onto the field, sing the shortest version in Super Bowl history, and run off!

I always look at it as a remake, every musician puts his own flavor on remakes. It doesn't offend me.

It's the national anthem, not some old Madonna hit from 1985. |

I get more 'offended/tired' of those that can't shut up during the National anthem.
Singing-Sing the song strait, its better that way. It really was not meant to be a cover song. |
I could do without it period. It is a great way to get a another commercial break in though for one.
|
What bugs me is when people DONT TAKE OFF THEIR ****ING HATS DURING THE ANTHEM. Common courtesy and respect, people.
|
**** the national anthem
|
...and **** YOU, n00b.
