Raiders release Matt Flynn.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4949/matt-flynn

Raiders released QB Matt Flynn.
It's a stunning admission of defeat from out-of-his-depth GM Reggie McKenzie, but hardly surprising considering coach Dennis Allen's barely-concealed disdain for his would-be starting quarterback. Flynn had tumbled behind Matt McGloin — a painful to watch quarterback in college — on the depth chart, and was embarrassingly inept in his Week 4 spot start against the Redskins. The fact that he's bringing home a guaranteed $6.5 million this season is one of the most embarrassing GM gaffes in recent memory. Between his money wasted in Flynn and fourth-round misfire on Tyler Wilson, McKenzie has proven he has no idea what he's doing with quarterbacks. Barely a No. 2 level talent, it's possible Flynn will latch back on with the Packers, who lack a viable backup behind Aaron Rodgers.

That would be hilarious. Hi guys, I'm back! Got paid a bunch of money just to come right back here...

Can't laugh too hard with Chase signed to a 3 year deal.

CaliforniaChief 10-07-2013 12:36 PM

Flynn was an awful idea for the Raiders. But unlike our former GM, at least McKenzie can admit a mistake and move on.

DaneMcCloud 10-07-2013 12:36 PM

And yet people on Chiefsplanet advocated acquiring him in favor of Alex Smith

Cassel strung together a couple good games with a hall of fame WR and it landed him 60 million

If I were wanting to get QB evaluations from a group of people I wouldn't be looking around here.

They were all right about Andrew Luck I guess so there is that.

Kind of makes Philbin look intelligent.....like he knew all along that Flynn sucked when he passed on him a couple years ago. :spock:

Not very many iirc. I think Flynn had lost his shine by that point.

But there were people that wanted him the first time around.

KC_Lee 10-07-2013 12:47 PM

Scott Mitchell
Matt Cassel

Now heap Matt Flynn on the heap of back up QBs that made bank that had no reason for making said bank.

Didn't Kolb get paid in AZ as well?

Bowser 10-07-2013 12:53 PM

I wonder if the Raiders knew that Josh Freeman had already signed with the Vikings before they released Flynn? :hmmm:

Beer Bong 10-07-2013 12:55 PM

Whoa

Imon Yourside 10-07-2013 01:00 PM

He will probably replace Rodgers in GB.

mcaj22 10-07-2013 01:07 PM

this guy had no chance back when Seattle signed him and then Russel Wilson fell into their laps cause we had to draft a backup swing tackle instead

This.this this.

If someone searches it. I said flynn was cassel. Great games with allstar talent around him. Played into huge money. People fell for it. At least those teams gave up quickly. Not four years.

But good on him. Got paid.

This team has something like 70% of their cap invested in dead money. That is insane.

That was a planned move. They are taking the hit this year so that next year they will have more money than any team in the league. They released a lot of guys to take the hit now. MacKenzie is smart and he worries me.

Was it planned to waste 2 draft pics for shitty Qb's as well? lol

Taking a gamble on a stop gap QB is not a bad thing! Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Chiefs have been doing it for years.

But Tyler Wilson for a 4th and Flynn for a 5th I think it was- in the same season? :doh!:

DaWolf 10-07-2013 02:43 PM

How crazy is it that McKenzie whiffed on both his QB's this offseason (Wilson for a 4th, Flynn for a 5th) but may be saved because of an Al Davis pick (Pryor)?

spot on. All Reggie McKenzie has proven is how horrible of a GM he is.

Look at the dumpster fire that is the Raiders QB decisions recently:

1st - Carson Palmer
2nd - Carson Palmer
3rd - Terrel Pryor
4th - Tyler Wilson
5th - Matt Flynn

I think RM is doing a great job. He's in his second year and isn't going to hit on every transaction. If he didn't get Flynn then who else to compete? Wilson is still on the team and Mcgloin has earned his spot. Most people with a brain can realistically look at what he took on last year (cap hell,no 1/2/3 draft pic) and give him time before they judge him.

You forgot the cream of the crop..... JaMarcus Russell

Eleazar 10-07-2013 04:33 PM

I think when I researched this, I saw that they only have 1 first round pick on the roster from the last 10ish years. (surely because they are always trading them away, not just because of the Jamarcus type stuff)

whoman69 10-07-2013 06:09 PM

Flynn is a guy who lives up to the talent around him. He is not going to make a bad team better. I would be real surprised if GB didn't sign him within the next few days.

I disagree with that.

Cassel was given the job without competition. He looked bad in preseason and in total from the start.

Flynn had to compete and lost. Think how much quicker our change could have happened.

What literally happened to flynn is what should happen to all players in that situation outside of the elite.

Exactly! ***** would still be here if he employed this tactic with the QB situation with the chiefs!

Two fan bases I know of, wanted him so bad. I MEAN HE WAS THE NEXT COMING, LOOK WHAT HE DID TO THAT AMAZING LIONS DEFENSE....
