Lay out your game plan against Denver

Going to be tough, tough, tough to beat them at their house in prime time. So lay it out....

how do we attack their defense?

how do we contain their offense?

Pablo 11-10-2013 08:13 PM

1. Score more points than they do.

2. Profit.

1. Let the actual coaches of the team worry about the game plan.

2. Drink lots of beer and watch the game.

3. Take a vacation day in Monday to celebrate the death of Manning.

POND_OF_RED 11-10-2013 08:19 PM

Defense can just keep doing what they've been doing. Offense just needs to get some big runs early. Whatever we do we just can't fall behind by more than 2 scores and put the ball in Smiths hands

RealSNR 11-10-2013 08:19 PM

Go after Orlando Franklin if/when we run the pass rush. He was more than susceptible to Larry freakin English.

Agreed.

Establish the running game early. I know we probably won't do this because Reid loves throwing swing passes and crossing routes for 3 yards.

We just can't afford offensive stalls or 3-and-out's against this team. When we finally get in the RZ, score a ****ing TD instead of settling for FG's. I anticipate the Broncos will stack the box and make Alex beat them offensively. I don't have a lot of faith that he'll be able to pull it out.

FG's will not win against Fivehead.

Defensively, just get pressure with four. Poe is the key. He needs to play like he's capable of for four quarters.

jjchieffan 11-10-2013 08:19 PM

Lots of Jamaal Charles, long drives ending in 7 not 3, and hitting Manning early and often forcing 3 and outs, pick 6's and fumbles.

Simple game plan on offense.

Do what you do well, bring in Sherman, line up in thd I formation, and get the ball in Charles's hands.

On defense, limited blitzing.
Generate pressure with stunts and overloads, and mug the receivers at the line.

That defensive game plan we had against them in that playoff game was sound. It was our offense that sh$t the bed.

Play football.

Dayze 11-10-2013 08:27 PM

get pressure with the DL; collapse pocket.
Hold LOS.
Don't allow free releases of their receivers.
be 'around' Manning as often as possible / make him uncomfortable
don't allow improv plays by Decker and Welker.
no blown coverages.

Offense;
stay on schedule/down and distance.
no turnovers.
Run/Pass balance.
convert 3rd downs.
Minimize penalties.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Smith/Flowers/Cooper/Berry manning up Demaryius/Welker/Decker/J. Thomas. Bring the physicality. Dictate the game.

petegz28 11-10-2013 08:44 PM

I'd like to see JC out in the pattern but a little more vertical and not just swing pass. Force LB's to cover him or bring up a safety. Keep him on the same side as Avery so if they do roll up a S we have 1-1 on the outside. Otherwise I think JC just running a typical TE Out pattern can payoff. Especially if we run it on the same side that Miller is rushing from.

I like your defensive plan. SD showed today that if you ran man coverage the Broncose were not as potent and Manning had to hold the ball longer.

If Welker comes over the middle on a crossing route, DJ needs to plant that ****er.

No shit. I hope Dorsey and Reid send some tape to the league ahead of the game but I am sure other teams did the same as well.

I think we are stuck with this since they haven't called the picks illegal yet, I don't see them starting on prime time in Peyton's house.

alanm 11-10-2013 08:52 PM

Ball control, ball control, ball control, eat clock and put it in the endzone. Poe and Jackson have one of the best games of their lives. The second one in two weeks. :D Bring pain all night to Manning.

tredadda 11-10-2013 08:57 PM

Defense

1. Stuff the run
2. Jam his receivers
3. Hit Peyton over, and over, and over again

Offense
1. Control the clock
2. Effectively run the ball
3. Keep AS upright and dink and dunk down the field while occasionally going for a big play.

If we hit Manning early, we'll be good.

People expecting Andy Reid to call 25-30 handoffs in this contest need not even watch the game, or load up on your choice of Xanex or Valium before the game starts, lest your fury consume you.

It aint happening.

We're going to see Alex Smith throw the football all game long. Our success in this game hinges on his ability to complete the passes he needs to make. 30 passes for 124 yards in this one is not going to get it done.

Bottom line, Alex breaks out of his shell this week and puts together a competent, professional performance as a passer, or we lose the football game, barring the defense scoring several touchdowns on their own.

Andy Reid is not committing to the run. The sooner everyone accepts that, the easier this is going to be.

Reid's lost bigger contests than a simple regular season game against a division rival in prime time because of his staunch opposition to running anything but a pass oriented attack.

I don't expect that to change any time soon.

The time will come this season that the defense cannot overcome Andy Reid playing defense for the opposing team. Its supposed to be THEIR job to stop Jamaal Charles. Andy just makes it where they don't even have to worry about him.

If Reid utilizes 25 in the way that we all know he should be, which is fed the football early and often, then we have a real shot to win this game. If he gets to rush the football 10 times through the end of the third quarter, and we see more of this dink and dunk bullshit, and passes to Jamaal 3-5 yards behind the LOS, this game is over offensively before it even starts. Defense and Special Teams will be doing any scoring.

My money is on the 90/10 pass to run dumbassery that we've seen all season, taking our best player out of the game and making it very easy for the defense to shut our offense down.

Unless our OL comes out and plays out of their minds, I think we are gonna have a tough time running on them.

Iowanian 11-10-2013 10:48 PM

Step 1. Smash Manning like a box of chiclets in a fat girl's back pocket
Step 2. Score Points
Step 3....Profit

CaliforniaChief 11-10-2013 10:48 PM

1. Tell Von Miller that his next court date is Sunday night at Invesco Field.

2. Have the team take the field with a Papa John's pizza hoisted high, only to set it down on the 50 and have Dontari Poe drop a massive, steaming deuce on it.

3. Show the team pictures of Peyton Manning's ankle and hang them all over the locker room.

In all seriousness, the ability to unleash Jamaal WILL determine the outcome from our side. But I think that in order to do that, we'll have to open them up early by at least trying to throw downfield.

And honestly, there's going to be so much buildup about the Chiefs playing small ball and Denver being the big play offense that I wouldn't be surprised to see us try to go down the field early.

Ace Gunner 11-10-2013 10:49 PM

I'd go nickel/dime pkg most of the day with a mix of fronts.

I would not change what the offense is doing. pass to set up the run. this week, the Chiefs WR's need to catch everything. everything, or they won't have a chance in this one. peyton is going to get his points, if the Chiefs can keep up or get ahead early, they have a chance.

They need 17 points min first half or this one will be over before it gets started.

Rain Man 11-10-2013 10:57 PM

I think the key to this game will be our offense. We know what our defense can do and we know what their offense can do. The key will be our offense taking the game to their defense, preferably on the ground.

Oh, and as Step 1 I would place an anonymous call to Von Miller telling him that the DEA has found out what's going on, and they're heading to his house. That's the last we'll ever see of Mr. High Times.

Baby Lee 11-10-2013 11:04 PM

Give up, 'cuz Alex Smith
Upside, we're all a little more psychologically prepared for the assured playoff dismantling.

RunKC 11-10-2013 11:09 PM

Defense

Creative blitzes.
pressure from the front 7 to collapse the pocket.
DB's HAVE to be physical at the LOS. They will get frustrated.
Be smart and see the picks coming.
Do NOT run ANY cover 2 or zone at all.

Offense

Run Charles to the outside on sweeps.
Run the screen with Bowe, Charles and Avery.
Use the TE's consistently.

Iowanian 11-10-2013 11:11 PM

1. Give Andy Reid and staff 2 weeks to prepare for this game.
2. #25 has fresh legs and 30 touches.

TinyEvel 11-10-2013 11:11 PM

Rushing Peyton on his blindside is critical. All the times I've seen the devastating sacks of Peyton, somebody comes in from the left and just flat-out surprises him. That's when the ball comes out.

He gives a quick look at the rushers, then starts his progressions. Somebody like Tamba or berry or ??? Zipping in from the left = domination. All my blitzes would be left-side.

I really want to see more sweeps and pitches for Charles. The way the line has been run blocking, dives (and others of the sort) are almost pointless. Charles exceeds at finding holes and making defenders miss in space.

BossChief 11-10-2013 11:22 PM

1) convert a lot of third downs and keep their offense off the field.
2) take advantage of every opportunity. No dropped picks, no dropped receptions or fumbles that we don't recover.
3)We need to protect the ball...no fumbles or picks.
4) we need to find a way to attack their secondary because they are easier to throw on than run on.
5) press man coverage
6) the pass rush has to get there. There will be times we send 6 or 7 blitzers and they need to make the play when we do. Poe, Houston and Hali are gonna be huge in us having a chance to beat that ass.

Psyko Tek 11-10-2013 11:29 PM

DO NOT ELECT TO RECEIVE

red on red if possible

crossbow 11-10-2013 11:31 PM

Pressure up the middle. He isn't nearly as accurate when he moves to the side and when he does so he moves into Houston or Hali (bad options). Plus it gives our corners a chance to intercept and it screws up the timing of those quick slant patterns.

Offense should run traps to counter the run blitzing that they will want to do. It is too late in the season to hope for a 30 point outburst from the offense so take what you can get and ride to success on the coat-tails of the defense and special teams again.

BossChief 11-10-2013 11:35 PM

Defense:
Man coverage, Poe needs to disrupt, We have to hit Peyton and plant him on the ground multiple times, even if it takes a few penalties. We will need 5 plus sacks and maybe some turnovers.

Offense:
Somehow our Oline needs to grow a spine and get mean. We need to control the clock. So spread out Denver, and hammer them with tons of runs and play action. JC will need 30+ touches in receiving and running.

We need to take shots once every 5 to 6 plays down field, even if it is just an overthrow to keep them honest.

It will come down to defense more than anything. Yes Alex will have to do better than recent weeks but it will come down to our D first to keep us in the game. If Payton keeps going (or the Denver OL holds up) we'll have no chance.

Agree with above PLUS:

I strongly believe Denver is going to start the game stuffing the box and dare us to throw to beat them.
  • If we try run, run, run, run, we will be done.
  • We need to mix a lot of pass/run/play action/screen's early on to stop their rush and back them off the line.
  • We have ZERO chance in an up-and-down game, we will get killed.
  • If we can get an early TD and establish the run with some nice passes tossed in, we can win.
  • Got to take crowd out of the game early with a lead.
  • We can't afford to have our Defense on the field 70% of the time
  • NO TURNOVERS FOR US
  • Win the sack battle
  • Bring rush pressure early and often-we are rested!

That is all

This. I feel if anyone on D will be exposed it'll be Lewis. He will be a HUGE liability in the screen game, which the broncos love too..

Unleash the hounds of hell... aka Our Defense.
Hit Broke neck on every single down.

For Reid to actually open up the offense and for Alex too hand the ball too JC 25 times.
Screen pass' and some play action passes. Have we even attempted a play action pass yet? For Alex too be a "GAME MANGER" cause we need too eat up clock and HIT BROKE NECK a lot.

Chiefs=Champions 11-11-2013 05:22 AM

Id love us to run on first down at least 5 of the first chances we get. We seemingly try play action without setting up the run first. Set the run up, then work in some play-action. Particularly some plays designed to go deep. Perhaps that way Alex will be forced to takes a shot or two.
