Greg Jennings doesn’t hide his feelings for Matt Cassel

And of the three he’s played with in a short time with the Vikings, he has a clear preference.

Jennings caught 11 Matt Cassel passes for 163 yards and a touchdown yesterday, and said afterward he hopes Cassel is back with the team next year.

“Absolutely. I love Matt,” Jennings said, via Bob Sansevere of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I think he brings a lot to the table.”

Mostly, what he’s brought are wins, which are hard to find elsewhere. After slogging through Christian Ponder’s 2-6-1 and the one-loss Josh Freeman experiment, Cassel has given them a bit of confidence. While a 2-2 mark is hardly sparkling, it’s reasonable to think they could be competitive with the rest of their division with acceptable quarterback play.

That left Jennings wondering what might have been if Cassel had kept the job after leading them to a win against the Steelers in London.

“Yeah, you wonder, but we have to move on,” Jennings said. “I remember mentioning something like that to Matt. He said: “We have three games. Let’s make the best of it.” I love it because that’s his mind-set. He’s not worried about what could have, should have — what possibly could have been. He stays in the now. As a player, that’s how we have to operate. We have to stay in the now and take advantage of what is right in front of us.”

Asked if he wondered why Ponder kept getting chances, Jennings didn’t veil his thoughts terribly well.

“It is what it is,” Jennings said. “It’s one of those deals that, as a player, we have no say. It’s one of those things that’s going to come from upstairs. We have coaches who make that decision. All we do is play football.”

That’s hardly an endorsement for Ponder, or for the coaches who may or may not be there much longer.

Poor Vikings fans.

Cassel does it again. I'm going to laugh when the Vikings don't draft a QB next year because Cassel has given them hope.

I think the Broncos should go after him when forehead retires.

The football is his professional pussy. Cassel is his best opportunity pimp at the moment.

It showed exactly what kind of Franchise we were... HOPEFULLY we are done with the "true fan syndrome". HOPEFULLY....

Cassel is what he is: an excellent backup QB. Anything more than that and you're asking for trouble...

He really is that, he's an excellent choice to come in and keep you afloat for 3-4 games... why teams keep trying to raise his pay grade is baffling.

OMG why can't Minnesota be an AFC team?!?! Cassel would effectively take them out of competition for the duration of his stay there.

I fully believe that there is no way we are at this point with Matt Cassel as our quarterback

Cassell just throws for 100 yards more than Alex Smith has in a game all year and Glennon(whom Pioli was rumored to love & CP hated) is having the best year of any rookie QB including Geno. Pioli just put clown shoes on CP.

Probably not... but if Jennings keeps putting his trust in Casshole... he's bound to get F***ed sooner than later. ;)
