For about 3.5 years I flew 3-5 time per month from Wichita to Seattle.

The local airport doesn't have many options, and driving to those options is easier and more convenient anyway.

Only when there's a high chance of the craft breaking apart in mid-air.

I went with the 100 segments as I had been traveling that up until a couple weeks ago. The answer would be different going forward but I went with what I have been doing for work.

I've only flown twice (to Florida and back) while visiting family. I didn't really enjoy flying.

What the hell is a segment?

I fly about 10 times a year. mostly in the lower 48.

Perhaps if you traveled more often you'd know what constitutes a flight segment.

Your segments don't really line up with actual flight miles for me. Are they supposed to?

Living in Chicago, virtually all of my flights are non-stop and average more than the poll segments.

Next week is non-stop to Anaheim (orange county, about 1800), then the following month non-stop to Vegas (1524 miles), then to Ft. Myers, etc.

Agreed. Living on the west side my east coast flights are long. Then again the 55 minute Vegas flights are short hops. Sounds like you're getting around...

Every summer we fly to Minnesota for vacation. Usually non-stop on Delta or Sun Country from LAX to MSP.

Other than that, there's usually one business-related trip or other unexpected trip that springs up.

55 minute flights to Vegas sound appealing, is that U.S. Air?

My flights will end soon friend, but they are getting the most they can out of me before I say I am done. :D

Since I moved here I have tried unsuccessfully to convince these millions of people that Chicago is not in the Mid West.
A flight to NY is an hour and a half. A flight to the west coast is 4+, so I tell them they are in the mid-East and they don't like it.

I just used the average distance for my last 260 segments. Includes outliers like JFK to Tel Aviv and Houston to College Station.

I've been trying to convince my Chicago friends this exact same thing and they won't believe me. Not only are they geographically inarguably part of the Mid-East, there is no way you can call a Chicagoan a midwesterner from a cultural perspective.

There are other parts of Illinois that you might be able to convince me have a midwest culture, but not Chicago. I think the phrase Mid-East should be more popularized. What are we supposed to call people from rural Ohio and Indiana for instance?

Exactly, finally someone agrees with me! Ohio, Midwest, are you ****ing kidding me? When I first moved here 18 years ago, one of the advertising sales ladies welcomed me to the "Midwest" and it was on. She ended up crying.

I've talked to people from Ohio with the gall to tell me that they, in fact, are from the Midwest, and I (in Iowa) am from the Great Plains.

Ironically, they're saying this as they're about to get on a 50 minute flight to NYC.

Depends on if you mean "rural Indiana by Lake Michigan" or "rural Indiana by the Kentucky border". Huge difference there.

Indiana is well EAST of the middle of the United States, so it doesn't really matter, they are both Mid-East. :D

Too much, it seems I'm either driving or flying. As a kid I really enjoyed it, but between the arrogance of the airlines and all the TSA crap, I have really learned to hate it.

From 1981 until 1996 I flew over 300,000 miles, all mostly for pleasure and I loved the whole experience.

During 1996 until 2000 I did between 50,000-100,000 PER YEAR for my job in technology sales and business development and was a United Airlines Executive Premier member. It was still fun and pretty easy to get around. Upgraded all the time as well.

In the last 14 years, I've flown around 4-5 R/T's of maybe 6,000 miles total. Flying today SUCKS balls and is really expensive lately. I do everything possible to not go and my next trip is this late May to California for my niece's HS Graduation or else I wouldn't be going.

Once they allow every jackass onboard to talk on their cellphones during flight, that may end my air travel days!
