Just curious... If the fan called Smart a racial slur, was he justified for shoving the fan.

I think its an interesting debate about where the line should be drawn for fans to get away with jawing at players. Let's first see if there's any truth to this. My personal opinion is that sports should have leeway for fan behavior, but there's a line that fans too often cross.

Smart is a stupid N word. No one denys it.

According to the article, this same fan has been a pest to other players as well for some years ago.

If you have the gall to heckle an amateur athlete then you should be prepared for whatever consequences come your way.

I watched a clip starting at when Smart was on the ground. It's clear from his reaction that something pretty nasty was said.

I don't have a big problem with it. It was only a shove. Fans shouldn't get a free pass any more than athletes should.

Obviously, Orr said something to Smart for him to react like he did. What he said to draw the initial reaction, we don't have video on. We just see what transpires after Marcus gets in his face. The guy obviously says something that we see on video, but it isn't "go back to Africa" or "****er". Unless another TT fan or employee at the event can corroborate what came out of Orr's mouth, or Orr cops to coming clean on a racial slur, this is going to look bad for Smart only.

The idea of booing or heckling a college player is pretty weak. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I think booing pros is perfectly fine though, I've done it plenty at Royals and Chiefs games.

Well I'll be the first to admit that my expectations of how the world should be are unrealistic, and never going to happen. At least not in my life time. I'm over 30, I have reservations. But it's to life styles, not skin color. In this day and age the thug mentality comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Also regardless of saying N or the entire word, the person saying it is doing it with evil intentions to emotionally harm another and whatever ensues afterwards I hope they are prepared for whatever happens. But also think of the people who the words are directed at. Because there has been this stigma of "trust no one but your own "kind"" that's been prevalent in non white circles and communities or whatever that word or any like it are allowed to sustain their power. If a large portion of people can just ignore those words then this won't be a problem and I think it's very possible to achieve because of the simple fact that those words have become so powerful the opposite can happen to make them powerless.
