NO is holding on to him thinking they can still trade him. I think him and Charles in the backfield together creates a nightmare for defensive matchups that would help cover some our weakness (if they are there) on the o-line. I think he is the perfect fit for the WCO (Reid's in particular).

Running back isn't exactly a glaring weakness right now. I'd rather see the money spent on a good TE/WR/FS/OL.

Although Sproles is listed as a RB, he really isn't used much as one in the traditional sense. He has 9x as many receiving TDs as he does rushing TDs. I think his skillset is pretty unique and paired in tandem with Charles the two of them together would be greater than the sum of their parts.

The short passing game is Smith's strong point. If the defense wants to rush him, he'd have two options to dump the ball off to quickly; he just has to pick whoever the defense isn't keying on. If the defense is being honest and respecting both Charles and Sproles, then Bowe and Jenkins/Avery/whoever will have time to get open deeper.

I'm happy with Charles and Davis (if he's right).

Sproles is coming back on the cheap

He will be cheap for whatever team lands him. It would be nice to see him return home.

We have more pressing needs, he will cost more than he's worth, and he's over 30 playing a style of football that does not lend itself to paying players over 30.

If he loses one step he's done. For cheapy contract sure. Otherwise pass.

Sproles hasn't taken a whole lot of hits for his position because he wasn't used in a traditional way. His play hasn't dropped off at all really. He is still a playmaker.

He's making it known that he's pissed they didn't cut him like the initially said they were going to do. The Saints saw all the suitors lining up to take a run at him, got greedy/dumb and announced they would rather trade him now. What happens when nobody trades for him? Do they still release him, or hold on to him? They've made it clear that he isn't in their plans for this season, so he wants out sooner rather than later.

The Saints think they're doing themselves a solid by trying to get a pick for him, but a team would be stupid to trade for a player that is going to be released.

Mickey Loomis has some grand plan to make this work out.

Bottom line is teams have figured out the Saints' screen game.

If they want to compete in the NFC the Saints will have to convert to a power running game.

They did resign Pierre Thomas though which is good.

PT has been great for the Saints.

Brees had 3-4 more years before he's gone to be a governor, senator or whatever.

I'd give em next years 7th for the guy. He's on a 1 year deal for 3.4 million and can give Alex Smith a nice, dependable outlet guy and would be a good guy in the locker room.
