Rich Cimini: Geno Smith Will Be 'The Guy'

Read it and weep, haters. Another sweet year for the Choco Penii coming up in 2014.

http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/vi...e-68cd9604465c

Quote:

"They want Geno to be the guy...He'd have to have a really bad preseason to lose [the starting job]. Right now I'd say Geno is the starter."

-Rich Cimini, ESPN New York

The New York Jets haven't declared a starter yet and have newly added Michael Vick ready to compete for the role in training camp, but according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, the job is Geno Smith's to lose.

In58men 04-05-2014 04:12 PM

I've been with you on this Geno Smith bonanza. Any QB won't succeed with the NYJ with an offense like theirs last season. He was set up for failure. He's going to be a beast sooner or later. Give him a line, offensive weapons and better coaches. Boom done.

FloridaMan88 04-05-2014 04:14 PM

Well if Rich Cimini says it… it MUST be true.

Hammock Parties 04-05-2014 04:15 PM

Geno is going to ball out with the additions of Jacoby Ford, Eric Decker and Breno Giacomini.

Weapons and protection. Something the Chiefs don't care about, obviously.

Dave Lane 04-05-2014 04:17 PM

Genos future is all about Geno. He has the power to take it either way.

TribalElder 04-05-2014 04:18 PM

Alex Smith approves of this message

WhiteWhale 04-05-2014 04:19 PM

Still swallowing Geno jizz? Really?

Easy 6 04-05-2014 04:19 PM

Yep, he'll be The Guy who loses his job to Vick about 5 games in.

Dumb, with the addition of the new players and Vick. It'll be more than one season to get Geno comfortible, as well as their new players.

Geno's last month was a big improvement.

I expect him to continue that upward swing in 2014.

In58men 04-05-2014 04:34 PM

He's going to learn more from Vick than Sanchez.

Oh please refrain from dog jokes if you're looking for a defense.

Marcellus 04-05-2014 04:35 PM

I wonder if he has learned to not stand in the end zone and take stupid safeties yet or drop the ball trying to switch hands behind his back.

QB coach is to blame, not a 2nd round rookie QB. He's has to be taught what to do in critical situations.

He was quite a bit better down the stretch. If it works for Fisher, it works for Smith...

That's true, but the other side of that coin is that the Chiefs didn't sign anyone as a contingency plan. They let their contingency plan go.

Geno did very well in school and was gifted and talented growing up.

If he doesn't succeed in football (unlikely, considering he's at least a quality backup based on his talent and what he did last year), he'll be a success in something else in life.

Bwana 04-05-2014 05:27 PM

Geno still has a 10 cent head and unless he can fix that, he won't do crap.

If you could physically back pedal as well as you verbally do you would be a HOF corner back.

Until Geno has 27 TD's and 7 INT's with one of the best performances by a QB in playoff history.

This goes under the who gives a shit file, because Geno isn't a part of the problem or solution for the Chiefs.

Exactly what I said.

But some people - ironically those who say they can't stand Geno and don't care because he's not a Chief - are the ones that flock to these threads like moths to a flame.

EJ played some decent games but was hurt for a big chunk of the middle of the season. He only had two multi-interception games, however. He seems capable of taking care of the football.

The guy played like Herm Edwards was his brain.

He's never going to amount to shit.

At least Geno tries to push the ball down the field, and had some success doing it.

I'd MUCH rather see a young QB taking risks with the ball and learning early on the job than playing scared.

Geno will cut down on the INTs in year two.
