Updated at 4:35 p.m.: According to a probable cause affidavit, the Princeton High School teacher initiated the relationship with the student.

The teen said that teacher Saralyn Portwood started complimenting him earlier this year on his appearance and telling him he was handsome. She also would brush up against him, touch him inappropriately and send him texts, the affidavit stated. The student said during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County that he did not want to be involved with Portwood and told her so several times. “She persisted, and he did not know how or who to tell,” the affidavit states.

One day the student was called into Portwood’s office, where she pushed him against a desk, pulled down his shorts and performed oral sex, according to the affidavit.

When the teen told her he didn’t want to communicate with her, Portwood continued to text him and ask what was wrong and why he was treating her this way, the affidavit states.

Portwood lives in Farmersville and is married to another Princeton ISD teacher. They have a son together. According to her Facebook page, she belongs to several groups, including Texas High School Coaches Wives Association and Campus for Christ.

The charge is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Either way it is bullshit. If you are an age of legal consent you are an age of legal consent. That doesn't change just because someone is your teacher or mentor.

That doesn't mean the person shouldn't be fired from their position but there should be zero charges.

17 is legal in Texas only if you're 19. If you're over 19 then age of consent is 18.

Also, Texas has a law that educators can't have a relationship with a student in their same district regardless of whether they are of age or not. If he was in a different district and 18, then it would have been legal.

If a male student claims that Ms So-and-so had a relationship with him, is it the responsibility for the accused to provide the proof that she is innocent? What if the student is lying just to get the teacher in trouble?

I would think the content of the texts she was supposedly sending him would clear this up.
