There is hope for country music...
Sturgill Simpson. Sounds like Waylon. This guy is amazing.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/HMB3sfvrFKc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Holy shit, that's good stuff. Repped. I'll be checking out his stuff.
|
I'll bet he fell in love before he turned 25 and has left children dealing with divorce.
|
I dont like country...in fact for the most part I hate country...but that guy is talented.
|
They've got a $5 album on Amazon of his. Just purchased!
http://www.amazon.com/High-Top-Mount...urgill+simpson |
That was excellent. Don't like the new country music they put out today, but this is great. Will definitely buy his music.
|
Oh yeah, this guy has the stuff. NSFW lyrics.

Never heard of him but like what I am hearing.
|
Love it. Would purchase

Everyone in this thread please humor me for a minute and tell me what you think of this...I work with one of the guys in the band and he genuinely believes they're gonna hit it big...the band is alright but the singer is holding them back I think.
Agree or disagree with me? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/K7ZtFtBuoKA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Outstanding

^^^That's what I think...he's not horrible but there's nothing about the band at all that really stands out.
|
I'm glad this thread isn't about that fat kid from The Voice.

No one in that band will make it big unless they are a roadie working with a big band. Not a slam, they are just a average generic band. We were down to see the Hillbenders. They are a blue grass band we take on our float trips. I am not going this year though. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YWoLPujrkio" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/r-WNfAMRw8I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YEV_2jaNFcM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I love watching the hillbenders live, but their music is hard to hit it big. Fun to watch though. |
Ha I know Jimmy from the Hillbenders too...went to high school with him. Not my cup of tea...him or the band.

I love blue grass during the summer. Soothing music. |
I may be more open minded if I didn't know one of their members was a supreme douche. None of the local bar owners/staff around Springfield can stand the guy either. Jimmy Rea...**** that guy.

he will never get air play |
If that ain't country I'll kiss your ass.
Good stuff. |

But damn, hes good. |
I am NOT a fan of country in any sense, but I recognize talent. This kid singing is 17/18, and the drummer just graduated with my daughter. Check this out.....

I believe Iowanian posted a song of his in the country music repository. You should check it out there is some decent stuff in there.

Do yourself a favor and look into Turnpike Troubadours, if you haven't. |
red dirt is the only real country music out there today.
I love Stirgil and Sunday Valley. Listened to his stuff for an hour today and introduced 2 other coworkers to his stuff today. He's the King turd on big shit mountain but you can have the crown..... Life Ain't Fair is my favorite song of his so far. Bueler.....I told you Turnpike ruled. I burned 2 CDs of their stuff and sent them to people today. Also give the Dirty River Boys a try. John D Hale. I also liisten to Hellbound Glory quite a bit lately. Go to Youtube and watch their viral stuff. Bastard Child, Til the lights go out, lost cause, Malt Liquor and Better Hope you die young are my favorites. I've had a couple of beers with all of these bands. |
I was hoping for a hot blonde.
|
I find a lot of the bands I like on youtube, specifically "Music Fog" sessions and the like.
Also consider Jason Eady for a listen on youtube. |

But I'm much more rock than country but it's my second choice. Reminds me of home with the cowboys, tractors, mountains and rivers. |

Whew glad country is saved, they barely made money last year.
|
Got that old honky tonk beat to it. Be nice if all country went back to this
|
Just can't enjoy that
|
I enjoyed it
|
I quit listening when ****s like Rascal Flats became gods.
|
mlyons...this is different.

Gave that album I posted a listen and it's damn good. All of it. |
He's great, but there's tons of equally great "real" country singer-songwriters out there today. Tune out of shitty radio and start following a music blog of your musical bent.

if they are going for a firefly theme they need a fiddle and an insane female singer and the guitar player is good |

pretty dam good sounds like Waylon
don't know if he's trying too or its his natural voice but still pretty dam good, lot of the new country bla bla bla this sounds very much like other songs from the 70's to much like em just different words but id still buy it or listen to more of what hey have you would think it was Waylon you were listening too hope he can find his own unique sound something that's not the same as long ago if that's his voice then that's his voice just sounds like they are imitating old Waylon songs just using there own words |

Just checked back in after I posted this the other day. Looks like most dig it. I think this dude is ridiculously talented, whether you like country or not. For the record, I don't. At least not today. Give me some old outlaw country (Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr, etc...) or some good 90's country and I can listen to it all day. This shit coming out of Trashville today, though...is just God awful.
|
So.
Turnpike Troubadours and Jason Boland will be playing at Crossroads in KC on August first. I'm unfamiliar with that venue but predict I will be unable to say so on August 2nd. |
I've been sharing this guy with anyone I know that likes music. Thanks for the heads up Strongside.

This song makes me want to help him with his social presence. This guy is awesome and few people know about him. I've been listening to him on Spotify all weekend. Love it. This is another great song... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/I5PpIH4HZ_k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

|
Absolutely, I really ****ign love this guy
I'm not sure if this is in the thread, I didn't go back and look at every post but this is my favorite song...I can't stop listening to it.. (I like the studio version much less....this live version to me is so perfect) <iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/f4MaFeim6rA?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe> genius lyrics and emotion..just SO good |
For anyone in the KC area that was digging this guy, he's announced a December 2nd date at Knucklehead's Saloon.

NPR just posted video of a 4-song acoustic set. I can't embed it, but it's obviously worth listening to:

I didnt like the version of Water in a well so much, I think he was irritated for doing one more song or hung over LOL.... Anyhow it didnt seem like his heart was in the last song....there are much better versions out there. But yah, he is really great..I dig. |
Hadn't heard this one before, but came across it and dig it.

I've been playing Turtles All the Way Down for my wife and daughter on the acoustic, they both love it.
