There is hope for country music...

Sturgill Simpson. Sounds like Waylon. This guy is amazing.

Holy shit, that's good stuff. Repped. I'll be checking out his stuff.

LoneWolf 05-30-2014 04:52 PM

I'll bet he fell in love before he turned 25 and has left children dealing with divorce.

MTG#10 05-30-2014 04:52 PM

I dont like country...in fact for the most part I hate country...but that guy is talented.

lewdog 05-30-2014 05:04 PM

They've got a $5 album on Amazon of his. Just purchased!

Kman34 05-30-2014 05:11 PM

That was excellent. Don't like the new country music they put out today, but this is great. Will definitely buy his music.

Mr. Flopnuts 05-30-2014 05:18 PM

Everyone in this thread please humor me for a minute and tell me what you think of this...I work with one of the guys in the band and he genuinely believes they're gonna hit it big...the band is alright but the singer is holding them back I think.

Agree or disagree with me?

Kinda of generic sounding where singer is trying to sing more low and drawn out than sounds natural through that song. Nothing bad, nothing great.

I would have to agree, good take LD.

MTG#10 05-30-2014 05:55 PM

^^^That's what I think...he's not horrible but there's nothing about the band at all that really stands out.

I have seen them before.

No one in that band will make it big unless they are a roadie working with a big band. Not a slam, they are just a average generic band.

We were down to see the Hillbenders.

They are a blue grass band we take on our float trips. I am not going this year though.

I love watching the hillbenders live, but their music is hard to hit it big. Fun to watch though.

MTG#10 05-30-2014 06:14 PM

Yeah it is not for a lot of people, hell my mom loves country does not like bluegrass. Of course that might be from all that religious bluegrass that dominants the stream.

I love blue grass during the summer. Soothing music.

MTG#10 05-30-2014 06:21 PM

I may be more open minded if I didn't know one of their members was a supreme douche. None of the local bar owners/staff around Springfield can stand the guy either. Jimmy Rea...**** that guy.

red dirt is the only real country music out there today.

I love Stirgil and Sunday Valley. Listened to his stuff for an hour today and introduced 2 other coworkers to his stuff today. He's the King turd on big shit mountain but you can have the crown.....

Life Ain't Fair is my favorite song of his so far.

Bueler.....I told you Turnpike ruled. I burned 2 CDs of their stuff and sent them to people today.

Also give the Dirty River Boys a try. John D Hale. I also liisten to Hellbound Glory quite a bit lately. Go to Youtube and watch their viral stuff. Bastard Child, Til the lights go out, lost cause, Malt Liquor and Better Hope you die young are my favorites. I've had a couple of beers with all of these bands.

Also consider Jason Eady for a listen on youtube.

Gave that album I posted a listen and it's damn good. All of it.

NewChief 05-30-2014 09:43 PM

He's great, but there's tons of equally great "real" country singer-songwriters out there today. Tune out of shitty radio and start following a music blog of your musical bent.

never trust a man that shaves his head but not his face

if they are going for a firefly theme they need a fiddle
and an insane female singer

and the guitar player is good

Band is solid (though they need to strike soon as they aren't getting any younger) Singer is not. His presence is okay but voice is very monotone and flat.

pretty dam good sounds like Waylon
don't know if he's trying too or its his natural voice but still pretty dam good, lot of the new country bla bla bla this sounds very much like other songs from the 70's to much like em just different words
but id still buy it or listen to more of what hey have
you would think it was Waylon you were listening too hope he can find his own unique sound something that's not the same as long ago if that's his voice then that's his voice just sounds like they are imitating old Waylon songs just using there own words

Hard to tell from just one song it could be he sounds hela lot better on other songs and another band member could sing this better or another singer could wail this tune so much better.

Strongside 06-02-2014 10:13 AM

Just checked back in after I posted this the other day. Looks like most dig it. I think this dude is ridiculously talented, whether you like country or not. For the record, I don't. At least not today. Give me some old outlaw country (Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr, etc...) or some good 90's country and I can listen to it all day. This shit coming out of Trashville today, though...is just God awful.

Iowanian 06-03-2014 03:33 PM

So.

Turnpike Troubadours and Jason Boland will be playing at Crossroads in KC on August first.

I'm unfamiliar with that venue but predict I will be unable to say so on August 2nd.

I take it you are more of an achey brakey heart / cock-country kinda guy with brand new wranglers and a lance armstrong bracelet while you crank your Florida Georgia Line tape?
